Instagram Lately // Festive Fringe + Christmas Tea at Taj Boston

loft plaid coat stuart weitzman highland boots praline winter outfit

Happy Sunday! I wanted to do a quick recap and answer some of your questions on these posts from my Instagram. I kept trying on & debating over this LOFT coat but decided to return it in the end. The pretty soft taupe & gray color scheme was the primary draw for me – it fits right in with my most-worn hues and would be very easy to pair. Ultimately I already splurged on another coat this year so want to give that one all the wear it can get. On another note, I’ve been in love with my Stuart Weitzman Lowland boots (last posted here) which get wear aplenty – enough to compel me to get the Highland heeled rendition. The chunky heels are Nick-approved; they’re stable and don’t get stuck in sidewalk cracks, so I can better keep up with his pace!

Yesterday I enjoyed one of my favorite holiday traditions with my girlfriends – afternoon tea at the Taj! We usually spend well over three hours there, getting buzzed on caffeine and treats while exchanging gifts. I ended up getting this BR skirt during a recent sale and really like it for festive occasions. My usual size was sold out both online and in stores so I went a size up (it fits but I’d prefer a little more fitted/shorter for a fun piece), however I saw they just restocked xxsp! It goes with so many tops, even my pajama dress which I was wearing before getting ready, ha! I’d recommend this comfy shirtdress for lounging at home and possibly outside (I’m definitely guilty of donning PJs in public)…it’s a cozy, soft cotton flannel which never fails to get me in a Christmasy mood!

Below, I’m so bummed that this shirt sold out of small sizes within a matter of days. I’m a sucker for drapey, wrap-style shirts, and this knit one was love at first wear. I have seen random sizes pop back in stock, so it doesn’t hurt to bookmark & check back if you really wanted it.

I only get to see my younger brothers once or twice a year so miss them dearly. Whenever together, we love to bake treats then gorge on them over Pixar movie marathons. The last time I went back to my parents’ house, I left my clothes strewn about everywhere which apparently left quite the impression on my brothers! It inspired these sugar cookies of my outfits, which I almost couldn’t bear to eat.

Last but not least, I’ve gotten more messages about the wrapping paper below…they’re all by Sugar Paper brand from good ole’ Target! Sugar Paper makes the cutest gift wrap & packaging, sure to be appreciated by your gift recipient (or at least will look pretty under the tree)!

Do you have any recommendations for a flannel pajama set (long pants and button up top)? I can never find any that don't look like I'm a little kid playing dress up.

Hi there – I got Praline Highlands which is a taupe color, while Londra is more gray. It really depends on your lifestyle…living in Boston where I have to walk a lot each day, the flat Lowlands would always rank higher on my list than a heeled shoe if I had to choose just one. I wear the Highlands to events and parties as well as nights out, not when I have to walk long distances.

Hi Serena! I think the Taj is pretty expensive but I honestly haven't had tea elsewhere in Boston in order to compare. My guess is it's a little overpriced given the location and hotel. I hear the Boston harbor hotel has a good service, and the Boston public library courtyard restaurant offers it too but only on weekdays I think. I'm not sure about the pricing on those.

The PJ shirt is pretty long, and hits right about where my fringe skirt ends. I didn't wear this to tea (did a black/white polka dot shirt instead), was just sharing how it looked since I have worn my PJs out as a "shirt" in the past : )

Hi Jean. Did you get the highlands in the color Londra again? The color looks so different in your posts. I'm personally trying to decide between londra and black suede since there are no other grayish colored options in between. May you please do a post on the highlands vs lowlands. I am so torn between the two and do not know which one I should get. How comfy are the highlands and how long can you manage to wear them for? Thanks!!

I never would've guessed those were pajamas! The top goes with the skirt so well, a combo that I didn't think would. It screams holiday!

Love all these Christmassy pics! That fringe skirt is perfect for the holidays!

I tried on that Loft coat too and after hemming and hawing decided not to purchase. I didn't like that it was just a hair too boxy, plus just like you I'd already bought a nice coat this year.

HI Jean! It's Serena again and I'm getting less shy about commenting! I just wanted to say thanks again for posting! Your pictures/life look fabulous as usual =] It's finals week in medical school and your posts/pictures are so great to look forward to during study breaks. I did have a few questions about this post:
    1. I love getting afternoon/high tea but it tends to be quite a splurge. Do you think Taj Boston is worth the price? If so, I'd love to recommend it to my undergrad friends still in Boston.
    2. How long is the Nautica PJ shirt flannel? It looks really long on the model and I have no idea how I'd be able to stuff it under a skirt. Is there a reason why you decided to wear this over the Jcrew factory holiday flannel shirt you posted earlier this month?
Happy holidays to you and your family =]
