Prada saffiano cuir bag, Anthropologie sweater c/o, AoS jeans, Talbots tee
I’m a big fan of the fit and quality of Stuart Weitzman OTK boots, but wanted to share some lower-priced alternatives as well. Ivanka Trump makes several styles each year similar to the popular SW Highland boot, with a stretch suede-y upper, almond toe and tapered block heel. I have a few pairs of shoes from this brand and find them to be pretty fair quality for the prices (these suede lace up flats are my new favorite as seen on me here – they were comfortable for me out of the box and high quality for the price).
Please note that some of the boots from this brand are real suede and some are a faux-suede fabric. Both are sold at similar price points so be sure to read the descriptions to avoid disappointment. The “Saffri” boot I’m reviewing today comes in 3 colors and is faux suede.
Fit: I’m a 5-5.5 in most brands, and have a few styles of Ivanka Trump shoes where I’m a solid 5.5. The 5.5 in these were a good fit in the foot area, however the leg area was a little loose. With OTK boots I like the material to be pretty snug otherwise it can be prone to sliding down as you walk. However it’s a challenge to find for narrow legs, and these are admittedly better than most brands I’ve tried. When worn over high socks (mine are these from ASOS) these did fit slightly more snug but still felt prone to sliding down. When worn over medium-weight jeans they fit better than the socks, but I’d want to be able to wear with skirts and dresses without slippage. I would expect shaft width to vary based on shoe size, so a size 5 should fit a little more snug throughout.
Measurements of a 5.5: 4.5″ across the ankle, 6.25″ across the calf, 7″ across the widest point at the thigh opening, heel is slanted ranging from 3.25-3.75″ high, and the shaft height is also slanted ranging from 18.5 to 20.5″ high (excluding heel).
Comfort: I didn’t keep these so can’t speak to comfort while walking, but they didn’t pinch anywhere and blocked heel felt stable. I liked the inner zipper by the ankles because it makes getting the boots on easy, plus you can reach in and tug down at the ankle of pants to fix any bunching. However, as you can see in the upper right photo, the zipper can cause some bunching at that area if the fabric isn’t stretched taut against your legs.
Quality: I personally prefer a thicker, genuine suede to “suede-feel” fabric for something like boots which I expect to wear for years to come. For a fraction of the SW Highland price, the overall look and the outer side of the faux suede isn’t bad but please note it is thin (about half the weight of the Highlands for reference). If you like the black option, check out the similar Surlia boot that’s listed as genuine suede. UPDATE: A reader below mentioned that the Surlia is mis-listed and is actually fabric and not real suede like the website inidicates.
Just got the Surlia boots, and they are amazing! I'm 5'2. They are so comfortable and stylish. Even though they are not real suede the fit for me is perfect! Thank you for the post. I was looking for over the knee boots for a long time. 🙂 JG
Thanks! No they were a little too loose for my liking as mentioned above, so I ended up splurging on the Stuart Weitzman Highlands.
Hi there – thank you so much for this info! THat is terrible that the Surlia was listed as suede but actually leather! Thank goodness they have free returns. I think everyone's body proportions are a little different so the same boots can appear to fit very differently even if we're similarly sized.
I haven't tried Born boots before, so thank you for sharing your recommendations!
Yes I am in love with it! I had been bag shopping for a long time and this one really jumped out and stuck with me so I finally pulled the trigger.
I love your outfit, great post! Did you purchase the grey color Ivanka boots?
These boots look amazing on you! I ordered both the Saffri and Surlia boots but didn't find them to be flattering on my legs. Both were slightly too loose. The Saffri was a better fit. The Surlia opens in the back so the boot opening appears wider. Both were made of the same material — Surlia was made of fabric, not real suede as listed on Nordstrom. I am under 5 ft tall and under 90 pounds, but my legs don't seem as long as yours. The Saffri boot looked way too long/thigh high on me.
You looks so beautiful!!

These boots look sooo good on you Jean! I had the Ivanka Trumps bookmarked for an upcoming look for less post, glad to hear the quality and fit are just as good as they "look"!
Love!! But I like boots that are made of a good quality material and ones that I can keep for awhile. These are cute but for sure go with the SW if you can. I own a pair that I LOVE!!
Sincerely,

I loved your second look, the one in which you are wearing a turtleneck, sweater and beautiful statement necklace. It looks beautiful. I just bought myself a new pair of boots via http://cashkaro.com/ at discounted prices. They too are knee length. I will also check out the ones mentioned by you.
Love that chunky grey sweater!

Loving this outfit and the one with the gray skirt. So cute! You're seriously making me think of purchasing a pair of OTK boots this year!

Thank you for this review. I've been looking for SW dupes but I want the real suede so I think I'll just save up money for the real thing. I feel like there's a significant difference in how real suede looks (and hugs the body) as opposed to the faux suede.

Thanks for the review – helpful to know what the trade-offs are for the much lower-priced option. Nice post & love that sweater with the boots!

Born makes some really nice boots. I have their Cady over the knee suede boot and it's a nice thick suede. The only issue is that it's mostly a comfort brand so if you are looking for a striking high heel boot, chances are they might not have it. But, if it's flat boots you are looking for then they should have it. I believe they have the Born Borda this year to replace the Cady version. I personally prefer the Cady since the shaft is longer. But the Borda has a zipper so it makes it easier to get in and out of. Good thing about Born is that it goes on sale and is usually sold on many sites so you can get a good deal on their shoes.
I am loving the grey skirt. I think the over the knee shoes looks really nice, but it is too much work for me to wear it all day honestly.
Cute! Love how you've styled the sweater and boots with white jeans. Dark colors get so boring mid-winter.

Hi Jean! I've been eyeing that bag for a while – how do you like it? Is it a keeper?
Love both outfits!!!

Love the entire look! I'm also so in love with your Prada – I didn't realize they made the Saffiano Cuir in a small size but it looks like a great fit for your frame 🙂
