Today’s post is a simple outfit of all casual basics – distressed skinny jeans, a draped white blouse (comes in several other colors & sleeve lengths), and minimalistic sandals. To add a little interest, I layered on delicate necklaces and a printed tote. I wear my long-sleeved white drape blouse to pieces and knew I’d get plenty of wear out of a short version. Topshop runs small compared to American sizing – 0P fit fine but I sized up to 2P for a looser fit. I think this is one of those pieces where regular sizing would work well also, because I wouldn’t mind a longer length (you can casually tuck it in the front). I noticed they now have free shipping and returns for US customers which is awesome, esp. compared to before. While at the NYC store, I saw these distressed denim shorts in petite (suggest sizing up for a casual fit) and wanted to point them out as a very similar option to my sold-out Express ones.
When shopping for distressed jeans, an issue I often have is the knee hole placement (usually hits several inches below my actual knees). I was so pleasantly surprised at the overall fit of these Treasure & Bond jeans, plus they’re currently 40% off! They are listed as crop jeans, which works nicely as regular jeans for someone my height (5 feet tall). The size 24 fits true to size on me with no waist gap, and the medium weight denim is stretchy and comfortable. If you have longer legs, I also tried on these distressed boyfriend jeans on sale at a bargain…
They are adorable casual jeans and the 00 was a slouchy but slim fit (unlike many boyfriend jeans which are too baggy on a petite frame), however the knee holes were 2″ too low for me so I’ll be returning. The length is longer but due to the cuffs, you can roll them up to your liking.
I finally got these Steve Madden sandals in a second color…my first pair in blush patent have truly proven to be the ultimate versatile sandal for me. They make shorter legs look long and the design is simple but elevated. Please note from my initial review on the blush ones that they run narrow! I’m usually between 5 and 5.5 and got the latter in these to accommodate my foot width both in the insole as well as the front toe strap.
If you’re shopping for delicate necklaces, Baublebar has a “pick your pendants” option on their site that lets you pick three layering necklaces at a savings for $68 total. I’m wearing the slim bar short one, infinity medium one, and the longer pyramid spike Y (great for wearing with V-necklines) which are all part of the bundle pricing choices. The slim bar and pyramid Y chain are my favorites because of the sleek 14k gold-plated design, and add just a little something to the most basic outfits. From my Baublebar sale order last month, my favorite piece has to be the bowline cuff bracelet, also worn here. It appears to now be sold out on their site but I found it still available here – would recommend esp. for narrow wrists, since you can bend the metal slightly to adjust the fit.
Thanks for the jeans rec – I got them in size 26 and they're amazing! Petite and knee holes don't usually mix.
Is the topshop blouse see-through? (as in – do you have to wear a tank top under it?) On those lines, what brands do you go to for layering tank tops? I feel like they are all cut so long these days, which is definitely not petite friendly.
I just got my BaubleBar Bowline cuff bracelet based on your recommendation, I love it, finally a cuff that fits me 🙂

I like your casual style!
Hi there – I believe I got it at Barneys NY, but the Goyard store in SF also ships.
Hi there – yes I still have the Marquises but use it less because I now love the less structured look with Goyard. I think everyone's tastes and preferences change over time and my story with the Goyards is a definite example of that! When I first tried on the St Louis I thought there's no way I could enjoy a non-structured, open tote, but on the flip side it is super lightweight and pliable for travel which are the features I now appreciate. To address the open-ness, I use a pouch system – a large zippered laptop bag for my computer and other loose stuff, and also the small pouch that comes with the bag for money and keys. I think the Artois is a really nice alternative that looks in-between the two styles I own.
Hello – when I keep the lengths different I haven't had that issue. I usually only wear the short bar + the longer pyramid one though which is even more different in length so that may be why I haven't had tangling issues yet.
Love the blouse!

I love how chic you look in this simple outfit! The backdrop you picked is also impeccable – those chairs look luscious, would love to spend the day curled up with a book in it!

I love your ripped jeans. I've been having a hard time finding one with proper kneehole placement because I'm petite. Hopefully my size is still available.

Jean, I want this whole outfit! So great!
Have you considered the goyard artois? It is similar (though smaller) to the st louis (PM) but more structured and has a zipper.
The white top is just AWESOME!! I love how flowy it is and that neckline is perfect!!
Also, the necklaces are stunning <3 I've been looking for necklaces like this so I'll be definitely checking them out. Thanks so much for sharing!!

A little too late to the sale, my size is sold out. Nonetheless, you look great and hoping you have a nice time in NYC.
This look is so chic! I love the Goyard tote paired with your outfit. Gorgeous.

I love your distressed jeans, happy weekend
I've never noticed when holes of distressed jeans aren't correctly placed. Now, I'll probably notice it all the time XD Love those shoes, btw!

Hi Jean. Long time reader here with a quick question – I remember a few years ago, Nick had gifted you a Goyard St Louis PM. In that post you said that it had thin handles with no zipper, the canvas was thin, the purse didn't hold its shape well, and would probably not be able to sustain weight in the long run. In lieu of the St Louis, you purchased a Marquises. Do you still have/use the Marquises? What made you reconsider the St Louis that you're wearing now? Not having a zipper in a purse is frightening to me – and I cant make up my mind whether a $1000 vinyl purse is worth it!
Lovely review on the distressed jeans! We shorter ladies always find those `busted knee caps' hit anywhere else but the knees!

When she is standing, as in the third picture from the bottom, the knee holes are perfect. When she was kneeling or sitting, I would imagine that she may have "hiked them up" slightly to allow more comfort and stretch in the hip region which may have bought the knee holes up a bit. Not earth shattering but just a thought.
That shirt is so classy. And I love those distressed jeans too. They fit you so well!

Love the layered necklaces! Do you find that when wearing multiple necklaces they get tangled up? I have found this and am wondering what may help avoid this.
Love this look– chic yet functional and unassuming. <3
I'm wearing a nude bra (a must given all the white items I own) and didn't see visible show-through…I think it is a little sheer so definitely recommend the skin-toned undergarments per usual with white tops. It is more opaque than AT/LOFT white tops that I've tried on this year.
Hi there – yes, actual tag says 00, not the nordstrom equivalent that they do which is confusing.
Thanks, Angela! The photos were taken at the hotel where I'm staying (Gansevoort Park Ave – very nice decor!).
You should link to some similar distressed jeans that work on petite frames! (I'm 5'2" and run into the same issue). Love those though 🙂

The treasure & bond jeans' knee holes actually look too high on you. Normal knee holes don't happen when you're standing; they happen from kneeling and what not. In the photos with your legs tucked under or when you're sitting, they come up too high to look like naturally worn-in jeans. Now what you're wearing is of course a perfectly valid fashion choice, but I'd thought I'd mention it to readers who aren't sure what to look for.
Love this look!

love the whole outfit! you're an Inspiration.
Ahhh!! So loving those jeans! Perfect knee holes, perfect ankle length!
I have a blouse similar to this one that I bought from Nordstroms. I love it, but you can see right through it. Do you wear anything under yours?
Wondering about those STS jeans. You tried an actual size 00, not the size 1, which supposedly corresponds to a women's 00 per the size chart online??
I love this outfit! Thank you for being so detailed and thorough. Can I ask where you took these photos? It looks like such an elegant setting!!
Lovely casual look! I love the blouse and the dainty necklaces.

That top! Love it!
Oh I love this outfit! It's casual, but sleek and put together. I've yet to find the perfect pair of "distressed jeans" for myself, so I'll *have* to check out your recommendations!!
So chic! Love the Topshop blouse! <3

I search for crop jeans too because of my petite sizing also! These are great I may have to order a pair. Totally agree with the SM heels, they run a little small and tight in the toe strap.

I think it was a good decision that you bought this blouse also with short sleeves – due to your recommendation for this blouse with the loong sleeves I bought this blouse with long sleeves, too 🙂 Now I think I need also the version with the short sleeves! And I know this challenge with the knee holes and I understand how happy you were when you found this jeans. Love your simple but very tasteful look from head to toes – including the delicate necklace! Have a happy Thursday.
