As some of you may have seen on my Instagram, I’ve been living in these oversized blanket scarves this winter! I actually shied away from the big square size for a long time thinking it’d overwhelm my frame, but after experiencing how warm they are against the elements I’m not turning back! They’ve been a key part of my daily commute, and also conveniently serve as a shawl for when the office AC is blasting. Through playing around and trial and error, I’ve learned a few favorite favorite ways to style a blanket scarf.
All of the styles I’m sharing today start with a square scarf folded in half into a triangle, but you can easily adapt for other shapes as well. A few readers mentioned that to cut down on the volume, they actually took scissors to their scarves and cut the square into two triangles. I personally wouldn’t do this because I like the volume for warmth (and also the raw cut edge might unravel), but just wanted to pass along this idea…
This has been my personal favorite style – variation #2 of the “handkerchief” in my video:
And the easiest way – variation #1 of the “handkerchief” from my video:
Which is your favorite styling method shown? : )
Thanks for sharing this video, Actually I have so many blankets, scarves but I am just wearing it in simple ways and I never try to wear different style but after saw your video I will try other methods.. itโs really help for me and maybe it will help others.
I am loving the Blanket Scarf and I am impressed that you think different from others and you make your own style, and I like all your ways to wear Blanket Scarves. Thanks for sharing your idea.
Thank you so much for the tips!! You make the scarf look wonderful!! My AC is always blasting at work, so I will make good use of these styles.
I loved the ideas so much I purchased two of them. The only issue is the material of one of the scarves causes a lot of static, so it clings to everything. Any suggestions for making it less static-y?
These are some great creative ideas.

Thanks for the great styling tips! I just bought this cotton linen scarf from Uniqlo for $14.90: https://m.uniqlo.com/us/product/cotton-linen-stole-139955.html?color=09. It measures 55 inches square and is a great lightweight option for spring and summer!

Hi Jean! Thanks for the video. May I ask what is the background music? It sounds very familiar but unfortunately googling a tune is not something we can (yet) easily do.

I always wear my scarves the same way — I love these suggestions, great post!! https://hideorgochic.wordpress.com
Jean you are adorable! This video reminded of the demos that flight stewards give prior to planes taking off…with an fashion twist of course!
Can I ask what your thoughts are on wearing the oversized scarf in the work place?
Is it strictly a non-work appropriate casual piece or something you only wear while commuting to work?
Thanks in advance!
I love all of these scarf tips, especially the second one with the tie! You always look so cute with your blanket scarves and I was hoping you'd do a tutorial one day

Thank you Jean – loved the video. I've never really known how to style my blanket scarf so this is perfect! x
Yay for a new video! I've tried a few of these techniques already, but haven't done the belted look yet. The blanket scarves I own might be too thick, but it's worth a shot! I'm not sure if you've seen these yet, but I recently shared a couple of reversible blanket scarves on my blog (http://www.jessydust.com/2015/03/reversible-blanket-scarf-houndstooth.html that I thought you might like. The patterns/colour combos go well with many outfits and I think they would suit you too! : )
AMAZING video!! So incredibly helpful!! Thanks so much and please do more of these :). If I may request, can you do a denim guide? ๐ There are so many skinny jeans out there it's hard to cut down through all the choices. I know it's such a personal decision but would love your take!
Thanks! I've been struggling with everything but the handkerchief style — appreciate the help!
