I noticed these affordable tall boots got restocked in sizes 4 – 12, so wanted to share these photos before sizes dwindled down again! The calves are not as narrow as I’d like (the top opening measures 13.75″ around for reference, and they’re also available in wide calf), however the shaft height was just right on my shorter legs. When I ordered, only the “chocolate” color was available and now I see classic black is as well. Black is probably the more flattering and versatile choice (especially for wearing with tights or leggings), but I have to say I love the earthy look of the dark taupe brown.
A few of you requested more pairings with this cardigan, so here’s a casual one I wore for running errands. I stopped by Nordstrom recently and couldn’t believe all the new variations it comes in! I tried on this black & white texture version which seemed versatile – please note that fabric felt thinner, more like a lightweight sweater knit than a fleece, and ran even narrower in the arms. For that pattern I would suggest sizing up, especially if you want to wear something under. Personally my favorite is still this original fleece material. I layered a chambray shirt here for texture at the sleeve cuffs, and added a plaid scarf for pattern and warmth.
I couldn’t be happier with my final color choice for this Robinson tote. I usually love the classic pop of true red with outfits, and the burgundy here serves a similar role but in a more muted, deeper hue for fall outfits. I’ve been carrying this mostly with the crossbody strap which is great for hands-free errands. The strap is surprisingly short enough for a petite frame, without having to punch extra holes and have excess strap flapping around. The base of this bag is thick and didn’t sag with my current 4lb laptop, however a base shaper may be ideal when carrying items that are heavier and more concentrated in size.
I meant to take these boots to the cobbler last weekend for calf slimming alterations, but couldn’t bring myself to part with them during peak boot-wearing season! I was thinking a temporary alternative could be knit legwarmers or boot cuffs – something to help fill the gap around the calves without adding extra thickness in the foot area. I’ve seen interesting DIY ideas floating around the web involving cutting off the sleeves of old sweaters. I don’t have any unwanted sweaters, but might try snipping off the toes of old knit socks for the same purpose.
The heel of these boots is stable and doesn’t feel like 3″ high at all. Similar to the ankle boot version (restocked in 6 colors), if you plan on walking in these for a prolonged period, I’d suggest ball of foot cushion inserts for more padding. Once again I’m usually between 5 and 5.5, and sized up to the 5.5 for these. If anyone else owns these boots, please share thoughts on how you like them!
Brilliant ideas! Beautiful!
Autumn is here. Great idea. Thank you for sharing. Definitely on my list! Love the model also.
When you walk in those boots, does it make those clicking/tapping sounds on non-carpeted floors? thank you!!
Oh, great outfit! And the colour of the bag – lovely touch!
Thank you Jean! I really love your style – fun, yet classic looks. I was so excited that you mentioned this comment in one of your posts! (Made me feel special and I am so impressed because you comments on it and you get so many requests!) Thank you for taking the time to respond. Now…if you could do a post on plus size fashion… 🙂
Totally love her outfit. She looks pretty!!

Hello! Sorry for the late reply – hard to see comments on older posts! So these did not feel loose at the ankles because they don't go up high enough for there to be a gap, if that makes any sense. The Lylee boots here for example were about 2" taller so came past my ankle bone, creating that gap between the shoe opening and the narrowest part of the ankles. The Chelsa hit closer at to almost below the ankle bone. I couldn't properly gauge the fit though because the size I had were so snug, that if I got a size that fit my foot better I'm not sure how the ankle area would feel. To avoid risking it I'd suggest shopping somewhere with free returns (like Nordstrom or Piperlime) ..I know it's tough!
I like her outfit. Especially the beautiful cardigan. Find accessories that will add beauty to your outfit.

gorgeous, as always, Jean! Love the bobeau top! I have one in gray and it's so versatile.
Hello – I have gotten lucky with certain Aquatalia boot styles, which are not inexpensive but they are "weatherproof" and comfortable so in my opinion a worthy purchase. Perhaps your answer is custom fit boots, like from Poppy Barley!
Yay, so glad you and Jasmine like it : ) Love that you guys can still share clothes before she grows much taller than mom.
Interesting! I have heard of calf slimming alterations so it'd make sense the height can be truncated too! Happy to hear the BP boots might work out for you – hope the 4.5 will be the charm : )
Hi Julia – thank you for sharing your recommendation! I have heard great things in the past about La Canadienne and haven't had a chance to try them out yet!
Hi there – I feel the same way sometimes, and a tip that usually works is to "sandwich" something that is brighter colored or printed in between your skin and the neutral garment. For example, when I wear a camel colored sweater that pretty much makes me look like I'm nude, I either try to wear a necklace that hits right at the neckline so there is some separation between neck and the sweater, or layer a collared blouse underneath so the collar and sleeve cuffs form a divider in a similar way.
Hi Jean! I was looking at the Chelsa booties as well. I am also about 5'0" and have the same calf circumference as you do, so I suspect that our ankle sizes may not be that different. How did your ankles feel in the Chelsa booties? I've tried different brands and always feel like my ankles are swimming in them! I would love to order the Chelsa but Sole Society charges a $7.95 restocking fee for returns, so I was curious to hear your feedback. Thanks so much!
Love your style and your blog, thank you for taking the time to do all the work involved! I was wondering if you would consider doing a post on how to wear neutrals and not look washed out. I love your style, and you wear neutrals, but when I try it I feel so washed out. Thank you so much!
La Canadienne boots are wonderful for skinny calves! I am 5'3" with the Galaxy hitting about 3 inches below the knee (wish it was a tad bit taller). However, the shaft is very slimming and follows the contour of the calf – I've had people ask if these were customized boots!
