As the days get shorter and colder, I’ve been playing it safe with dark, solid colors. I’ve demonstrated this before, but a key way to keep solid colors interesting is by incorporating texture.
This is the best fitting skirt I own from Ann Taylor, but it’s still a little long, so I have the waist hiked up high. The length is understandable, as petite sizing is for women 5’4″ and under, whereas I’m a mere 5 feet. The measurements when lying flat are 12.25″ across the waist, 16″ across the hips, and 20.5″ in length.
Several sizes are already sold out online, but if you’re interested in this skirt, you can check in-store. The stackable 30% off code in this post was from a snail mail flyer coupon that I also got in the mail – so check your mail to see if you can use it in-store on top of the 40% off sale.
i really love all your looks. this is so nice, some inspirations…

Completely in love with your tweed jacket 🙂
the look is perfect head to toe.
I have a blog on fashion for petite women too: http://styledestino.blogspot.com/
Do check out and give ure comments
you look gorgeous and so sophisticated!
Love love love! BTW, did you cut your hair? Or style it differently? It looks shorter. I love it! 🙂 xoxo Jamie
Hi!
I'm a huge fan of you blog. However I'm currently residing in Asia, specifically Singapore.
I'm wondering if BR and theory ships to Singapore? Thank you!
Lots of love,
Fellow petite
I'm very guilty of wearing too many dark colours in my work outfits, so I love the idea of breaking it up with different textures.
Great office-appropriate look, as always 🙂

oh you vixen you!
You look great! Love this outfit post! 🙂
LOVE your outfit!! you are soo beautiful!!
The Theory jacket is gorgeous! If only they still had that line.
thank you so much for your blog. It helps me a lot since im only 4ft11.
While I don't normally like to wear neutrals, they look so amazing on you. You find ways to stop them being boring! I love that skirt. I'm not a skinny petite so I'd wear it in a bigger size, but their 8P is a smidge too small and their 10 regular is a smidge too big! Oh well, it's too expensive anyway and I am not classy enough to wear a skirt that you pull off so well.
Wow I love the jacket. I'd love to see it with jeans, too. So cute.

The skirt looks awesome on you Jean – such a worth it investment piece. And I am drooling over your chanel bag! Thanks for the outfit post.

nooooooooo…i love that skirt but there is no more 00P online, and not even a 0P I could get taken in. sooooo sad!

This is so chic! Perfectly put together. I love how you always add measurements because as a fellow petite, I have trouble finding things that fit!
<3 from San Francisco
Your style is so pretty! I like your bag
Jean, I like this monochromatic ensemble! Also per your boot dilemma. I have similar boot measurements to you and was having a terrible time finding a narrow knee-high boot with a 2-3 inch heel. Also tried to avoid the petite-unfriendly slouchies and lame details around the anlkes.
I had looked absolutely everywhere in many price ranges and was astonished to find a GREAT pair at Old Navy. They are a black faux suede and perfect height and width. Nice, straight and simple narrow shaft and with an almond toe. With dark pants, the make my legs look a million miles long, quite impressive considering I'm 4'11''! Also extremely comfortable.
My only mild complaint was that the heel is a cork color but I can live with that. They were originally $44.95 but were on sale this weekend for $25. I will see how they work out…but for the moment at least I have a great boot!

I envy your style!! 🙂
hey there,
love your nail color… what brand and color is it? thanks!
I agree that texture is a smart way to add interest to a monochromatic outfit. You look incredibly chic! As a petite girl myself, I can appreciate your tips and your style.
What a classy, sophisticated look! I love the mixing of textures and monochrome palette. You have such great style.
This is a really sophisticated look. Your accessories help to make the look youthful and not too mature.
Pretty combination!!
At a mere 4'6" and a very skinny 70 pounds I'm stuck in the children's department wearing clothes that 6 year olds wear. As a 30 year old professional this is not good but I'm just too tiny for women's clothes. Any advice?
Love the blog, you always make gorgeous pairings and find great deals.
I love your style… So chic
I love your rule about doing textures in the same color family. I tend to wear lots of black in the colder months. I will give mixing textures a try this year.
You look fantastic btw, as always =)
That skirt looks so beautiful on you! I saw it in the store and passed. I may have to go back!!
great job of mixing old and new pieces to achieve a rich, dressy look.!
my employer might think he paid me to much if i looked this good for work! beautiful.
you look beautiful and very classy in these pics. i love all the different textures you have going on here!
jean– i love this skirt on you and the oufit. it looks really good and i wished i would have picked up this skirt too since no alterations are needed. i just picked up my suit and relieved that it fits now! ahhh! lol
I wish the skirt came in my size. I so wanted to get this skirt with the sale going on but the smallest petite size is 6! 🙁
I LOVE your blog so much! I visit it daily and I haven't seen an outfit on you that I didn't like!
Love the Skirt!
Loving the all black color scheme! And the pearls work perfectly with the lace skirt. Did you part your hair differently than usual in this one? Seems like more of a side part.
The outfit is amazing! I love it, especially since you made each individual piece stand out so wonderfully!

Hi. I'm a big fan of your blog. But, for this particular ensemble, can't help notice that it is missing one mood-lightening dash of color. I'm thinking red lips or orange handbag or suede fuchsia pumps. Would you try that for me and put pictures to compare the two looks.
Best,
A
You look stunning! So classic and elegant!
I am so in love with this outfit, Jean. I tried on that skirt too and it fits me perfectly in every way (since I am 5'2) LOL =) The only thing that keeping me from getting this skirt is the price tag.
Thank you Jean. I love all your posts, they are helpful and your style is very elegant. But will you also do some styling for daily casual wear too?
Oh so classic, Jean! Love the skirt on you. Does this skirt fit better than the Loft ponte lace version? I just got the Loft one from the mail, and it fits a little big.
I have never had any luck with stacking coupon on top of the 40% sale AT has. AT SAs in my area are pretty snobbish and darn right rude sometimes. I don't even want to try.
you look so pretty.^^

Please follow me if you're not already. I'd love to get more followers! I'll follow you back.
You look absolutely lovely and the outfit is just perfect – so well put together but not contrived.
I am totally loving the textures and want to add more of this to my own looks. Interesting that your jacket is old Theory – haven't seen anything good from them recently.
Anyway, did you trim your hair – I love it this way! That's how I want to wear my hair – in my dreams lol!
You are sooo beautiful 😀 I'm wondering which ethnicity you are?
