Hope you guys are having a great weekend! It’s a cold and rainy one here so we’re laying low, but I wanted to share some reviews in time for some good sales ending soon. There’s several noteworthy pieces back from prior years that are currently fully stocked!

  • Madewell Insiders: 25% off when you create a free Madewell account. Ends Sunday night 3/24
  • Abercrombie reactivated my code AFJEAN for 15% off this weekend
  • J.Crew up to 40% off

Madewell Sale Picks

They do not have a site-wide discount like this often, with all of their perfect vintage denim included! Great time to pick up some basics like their jeans or elevated shorts:

  • My most worn Madewell denim style: the Perfect Vintage Wide Crop, pictured above. So flattering with nothing but good reviews. The petite sizing works on me with flats and also looks chic with a low heel. I took my usual denim size 24 petite (“altoona” wash pictured above), and applied anti-fray to the hems.
  • Pictured below: I tried on their newest Emmett wide crop jeans and it’s similar with finished hems instead of raw cut, and pocket & seam detailing on the front and back. The hips and thighs on the Emmett in 24P feel looser than on the PV Wide Crop.
madewell emmett jeans petite review dolce vita reyes mary janes

I’ve been eying these Dolce Vita Reyes mary janes for so long and am in love! I wanted a rounded square toe with thin strap, and these have the feminine and sleek profile I was hoping for. I’m usually between size 5 to 5.5 in most shoes – the 5 was snug and I needed the 5.5. I had a tough time picking a color and hope I can keep these clean! Nordstrom appears mostly sold out but I see small sizes pop back often.

  • Pictured below: SO excited to see the clean-front linen shorts back! Currently fully stocked starting in xxs, which I know will not last based on last year. Flat, semi-tailored look in front, elastic in the back. Madewell does fit bigger for me and these are a loose fit at the hips and thighs on me.
  • The Emmett also comes in shorts – the slightly A line cut is pretty flattering, but I found the waist on the white color shorts to run big and I’d need a 23.
  • Softdrape vest – another favorite from last year. This one is lightweight and slimmer fit. For vests, I have been DIY taking in the straps a bit from the top of the shoulders to make them fit a little more petite-friendly. See my post on 4 ways to style it.
  • Woven leather tote. See the size against me – this is a generous size that fits a laptop without feeling overwhelming on petites. The overall tote is unstructured with a soft base, so I’d use a base shaper or organizer insert.

J.Crew blazer 00p, COS tee xs, Madewell jeans 23 (hems cut shorter), New Balance 327 kids 3.5 = women’s 5, kids 4 fits like a women’s 6, Naghedi bag, Madewell necklace

This is one of my best blazer finds this year. Similar to the Uniqlo in cut but higher quality, if you’re looking for a fully lined jacket in a nicer material. I have it paired here with my thicker quality COS tee (i went 1 size up) in light beige, and these super lightweight sneakers. On the topic of J.Crew, I have yet to see these sailor trouser jeans on sale but they are insanely cute, even paired simply with just a plain tee. I tried on a 23 petite and they are amazing!

A&F Sale Picks

You can see this folder for recent Abercrombie try-ons, including some fit videos.

  • This little crop top is so feminine and flattering, and I’m a sucker for a good blue & white floral. The same print can be found on several of their dresses as well! This top has a smocked back, twist front design with some bust support, and non-slip strips lining the top of the bust. It looks so cute with jeans, trousers, linen shorts or a bold colorful skirt.
  • Emerson midi dress is their all-time bestselling dress for a reason (see fit video on me). Vintage-inspired vibes with tons of prints to choose from. This style comes in a mini length, has pockets, and is maternity & nursing friendly with a comfy smocked back and elastic sleeves and shoulder that pull down easily. I’ve seen it on friends who have very different body types as their baby shower or bridal shower dress, and it looks so good on each person!

Hi Jean! I want to get a vest and I noticed in this post you have both the JCrew and Madewell versions. Which one would you recommend?

HI Michele, I have had a little vest problem since last year! I can’t get enough of them. The ones I have are all different in fabrication so my answer will depend on what occasions you see yourself wearing them for. If more summery and beachy, then the J.Crew linen one is has a nice texture and cut and fairly petite friendly because it has an adjustable back strap. The Madewell one can go across more seasons because it’s a silky smooth fabric that isn’t as seasonally limited as linen, but note I did shorten the madewell straps a little in these pics . I also got a new one from Aritzia that’s more in a suiting like fabric for dressier looks.

hi, I’m so happy I stumbled upon this site. After several shopping trips, countless hours trying on clothes that were too big, I was ready to give up. I will try the ones that have worked for you. I was wondering if you could posts pictures from the back? All the pants I try on make my butt look like a flat pancake. I’d like to see how the wide jeans/trousers look on petite women from the back. thank you!!!

Hi Sarah, they only reactivate it time to time … unfortunately I don’t have a code now but the next time they reactivate this one will be April 12th weekend!

Hi Jean! Love them all – where is the sweater from in the pic with the shorts and the wicker lunch box? (the sweater draped over your shoulders) 🙂
    Thanks! xo

Hi Jane, thank you so much! The sweater is an old Everlane loose weave sweater – I’ll keep an eye out for something similar!
