Easy Ways to Style a Scarf, Part 2

how to style tie a scarf for warm winter outfits

Last week I shared two scarf tying methods that I use with my thicker scarves and have loved seeing your feedback on those! This is a different method I’ve been doing for 10+ years now and love how it works with lighter weight scarves that aren’t too chunky. It’s also very functional for when you need some coverage for warmth, like when wearing a coat with V-cut lapels that doesn’t actually cover up the chest.

You can watch my Instagram video to see a step-by-step of how I do this tying method. It may look a little more twisty and complicated than the other two, but I promise, once you practice 2 to 3 times you’ll have it down by muscle memory!

    Hi Jean!

I’ve always wondered how you decided to pick Size 24 for most skinny jeans – According to your ‘about me’ page your hips are about 32 in – and most Size 24 skinny jeans are for hips 34 in – do they not fall off for you? I find myself having to pick Size 23. Do you usually have to wear a belt with Size 24? Thank you!

Hi Serenity! I size down to 23 in Madewell only, but a 24 in most other brands fits me snugly! I also haven’t updated my about page and my waist is closer to 25 inches now, with a size 24 denim still fitting well.

I would love to know more about the gloves, beanies and winter accessories you wear. I find it hard to find warm gloves that fit my small hands and beanies that fit my head. Are there head sizes for beanies??

I have several accessories from H&M as they have affordable hats in various sizing, and gloves in different sizes!

Hi Jean, can’t wait to try this scarf tying style! I have an unrelated question/request: Are there any exercises you do, or tips you could give us for walking in heels? I have always marveled at how chic your heels look in photos and visualized myself immediately twisting my ankle if I put them on. In the past I have only worn wedges and 1-2″ boots, but, being 4’10,” I really want to branch out into different styles and taller heights. Thanks so much in advance!

Hi Rose! I’m afraid I don’t have any specific tips as I just wore heels a lot starting in my teens, so I’m used to walking in them at this point. But recently I’ve been wearing flats most of the time for practicality. Sorry I can’t be of more help!
