Nori is in 4T dress, J&J sunglasses, jelly sandals
Earlier this month we launched our newest Edited Pieces addition, the Bellaire dress which also comes in kids sizes (12-18M – 6T)! Nori and I wore our dresses in my anniversary post, and I wanted to share some more details and fit info. This dress was inspired by New England summers and features easy stretch straps and a comfortably smocked back. Last year I had samples for this dress sprawled out on the floor and was tweaking the fit and the custom floral print when Nori walked in. She exclaimed how beautiful it was and asked if I could make her one to match. It felt amazing to say, yes, actually I can!
I love that this dress can be dressed up for a special occasion but also worn everyday with flats – I wear it regularly to daycare pickup and it makes my day when passerby stop to ask where it’s from! I also sat in this comfortably for several hours in a car and emerged pretty much wrinkle-free.
Fit & Details
This dress has an empire-style waistline which makes it both maternity and postpartum friendly. The stretch elastic straps pull down one at a time allowing the dress to be nursing-friendly as well. I’m 5′ tall and it hits at ankle length like a maxi dress, and would be midi length on someone taller. Knowing me, it of course had to have pockets that are roomy enough to fit a phone or a small wallet for practicality.
This dress is made of a lightweight, crisp cotton poplin fabric blend that is Oeko-Tex certified and wrinkle minimizing. While the dress is machine washable, I like to hang dry most of my dresses to keep them looking pristine.
Sizing
The feedback we’ve received from fit testers and customers so far is that this dress fits true to size. I currently measure around 32 bust, 24 waist, 33 hips and can do either XXS for a fitted feel or XS for a little wiggle room. We also have a lovely customer Priscilla who shared that she is 4’11” with a larger bust and size 4/6 in most brands, wearing a Small in our dress. For the kids version, if in between sizes we suggest sizing up, especially since little ones grow quickly!
Question on undergarments: could you wear a “regular bra” (i.e. neiwai bra with thin straps) under this dress without any of it showing?
Hi Christine! The Neiwai bras do not work under this but pretty much all my traditional bras from other brands do. However I don’t wear a bra with this myself, and if I did, I would probably wear my Bristol 6 nippies for ease!
Hi Jean, what kind of bra are you wearing?
Hi Jasmin, I actually don’t wear a bra with this since it’s double layered at the bodice with a printed fabric. If I were to wear one, I’d do my Bristol 6 adhesive nippies or any regular strapless bra would work. I also tested my dress over traditional bras (not Neiwai, which won’t work) and they were pretty much fully covered but I can’t guarantee that’ll work for all brands and sizes!
Hi Jean,
This is such a gorgeous dress! The print is one of the best I’ve seen and the fit looks perfect. Lovely detailing with the pockets as well and I especially love it with the Sea & Grass bag. Thanks for styling it with multiple height shoes too – that helps a lot! Can’t wait to see what’s next!
Thank you, April! Always appreciate your kind words, I hope you’re doing well!
I bought this dress — my first purchase from Edited Pieces — because I love florals and really loved the print on you and Nori! I agree about it fitting true to size – I ordered a M based on the bust and that part fit snugly, while the rest was flowy as expected. The price point was much higher than my usual purchases but I love the print and have been waiting for an occasion for it but maybe I’ll just have to wear it this weekend!
Thank you so much for your support, Linna! I hope you get the chance to wear it out soon, whether it’s for a special occasion or a fun weekend xx
Jean, you’ll be pleased to know that an older woman stopped me on Park Avenue in the Upper East Side in NYC to ask me where I got the dress from when I wore it out on the weekend just for a fun day in the sun! She said it was for her daughter and I let her know about your line. But even if it were for her, I think it would be flattering for all figures and all ages! 🙂 Love the dress!
Oh this makes my day, thank you so much for sharing Linna! And I’m so glad to hear that you finally had a chance to wear it out and about 🙂
