3 Try Ons in my favorite vibrant color

Growing up, I was always warned by Chinese aunts to avoid yellow for our complexion, but I’ve found that as long as there’s enough contrast with my skin tone, it can actually be very eye catching and flattering! This zesty yellow is a longtime favorite color of mine, and I’ve paired it over the years with with blue denim, beige, grey and white just to name a few, so it’s surprisingly easy to incorporate into a wardrobe of neutrals. I’m partnering with Express again this month and wanted to share a few pieces I tried on in this fun color from everyday casual to special occasion.

If you have a more formal event coming up this year, this lightweight satiny feeling maxi is simple but stunning. The cut of this grazes the figure for a slinky look (not fitted or tight). It has adjustable spaghetti straps, and I love the well placed slit in the front that isn’t cut too high.

High Waist White Denim Shorts

Sizes 00 – 18

These denim shorts have a belly-friendly high rise fit with a more modest length (size 00 inseam measures 3 inches long and is a casual fit on me, not snug). The denim is medium weight with some stretch, so these are comfortable for sitting and bending all day. The length can also easily be cuffed like I did in the photos, if you’d prefer a shorter length.

Ribbed Padded Shoulder Sweater

In 5 colors

I like the on trend look of the padded shoulders in this summer sweater, but I inspected inside, and the pads are attached only in the 4 corners so you would also be able to snip them out if you ever tire of the trend. Note the arm holes are cut in a deeper V shape so I typically wear either a neutral or contrasting colored bra underneath, knowing that it will peek out a bit.

Padded Shoulder Elastic Waist T-Shirt Dress

In 5 colors

This fun take on the classic t-shirt dress is a simple and comfortable way to do the bold color trend. It has the same feel of your standard t-shirt dress, but with the chic addition of the padded shoulders and elasticized waist so the upper is a slouchy casual fit while the bottom is a little more slim. If this bright yellow isn’t your style, the dress also comes in several neutral and softer colors like a lovely pale blue!

Thank you to Express for partnering on this post.

WOW I love the subtle cowl neck and cut of that midi dress!! It looks fabulous on you, thanks for sharing! I wish they made it in a dark nude or other neutral color for all-year. Do you think the asymmetrical handkerchief style hems are more lengthening than straight cuts on shorter folks?

Thank you for your kind words! I recently ordered this dress in an xxs regular and think it might fit the bill for what you’re looking for.

I don’t think the handkerchief style vs straight will make that much of a difference lengthening wise but the handkerchief hem adds a flowier look

I love the slip dress! Is it flattering around the stomach? That fabric can be so tough.

Thank you Julie! It’s a looser fit so it doesn’t cling to that area, but it does show my belly unless I’m wearing shape wear shorts
