Boston received the most gorgeous first snowfall last weekend – these photos were definitely taken prior to that! I usually gravitate towards neutral colors, but this time of the year inspires me to break out more vibrant hues. I’m partnering with Ann Taylor today to share this bold holiday look from their new arrivals, styled with my beloved wrap coat (also worn here) from a past collection. Take 40% off your purchase right now with code VERYMERRY, ending 12/12!
This flounce skirt in a festive but classic red color was quick to catch my eye. The curve-hugging silhouette is balanced by a more demure midi length, making this a sophisticated piece for cocktails, holiday gatherings, or date night! The skirt fabric is a thicker knit (like a sweater material) with an elasticized waist band. Due to the stretchy waist, it fits better on me off the rack compared to other AT skirts, and sits naturally at my lower waist. It’s unlined and fitted, so I’d advise only tucking in thinner fabrics and wearing seamless or thong undies to avoid panty lines.
Looking at these photos, I would style this skirt next time with a simpler fitted top without sleeve embellishments, since the skirt is a statement piece in itself. I plan on also wearing it with neutrals like cream or black, but do love the impact of red on red! Other new arrivals that I’ve tried on and would recommend include this swingy satin skirt (waist fits true to size so would need alterations on someone my size) or these satin tie waist pants, if pants are more your style! The material on both is a heavier-weight, nice quality champagne satin fabric. For office wear, I’d recommend this pencil skirt in classic black, updated with velvet dots. And lastly, this faux fur jacket with tie waist looks so luxe but sadly does not come in petites – hopefully one of you who are taller will snatch up the remaining xxs regular!
Thank you to Ann Taylor for partnering on this post.
I actually thought at first this was a complete dress but as I read your post it’s two different pieces. In that case, I actually like how you styled the skirt with your ruffled sleeves blouse. While the skirt makes a statement on its own, I love the balanced look of having ruffles on top and the bottom. As always, you look beautiful.

You look stunning, Jean!
Do you have any advice on what top/blouse to pair a WHBM velvet pencil skirt with?
Love how you made these into something like a dress. I honestly thought it was a dress and had to do a double take to see that it was a blouse and skirt.

This skirt is so pretty and I love how versatile it is. I also like the impact of red on red, but think it will be equally stunning when styled with neutrals.

What a beautiful skirt. Because it is such a perfect fit I think I would be too conscious about having to suck in my belly when wearing it……..It looks fantastic on you though and very festive. Love, Lieske
Beautiful. So tempting. Sadly I no longer shop at AT much because of their lacking online customer support and egregious fifteen dollar shipping rate (on items that cost less than $5 to ship via USPS) to my American destination.
I love how the flare of this skirt gives you a great shape!
