First Day of Summer // Gingham Print + Pineapple Sandals

white j brand skinny jeans summer outfit petite style

Maison Jules top xxs, J.Brand jeans sz 24 (no hemming needed; also sold here),
Talbots sandals sz 5.5 c/o, Celine box bag (review), Quay sunglasses (similar – see on me)

Happy (almost) first day of summer! And what better way to welcome warmer days, than with gingham print and whimsical pineapples paired with my trusty white jeans. I borrowed this adorable navy peplum top from my same-sized cousin, whom recently moved to Boston! Aside from practically doubling my clothing options, she’s been teaching me all sorts of yummy dishes from our family recipes (some of which I can’t wait to share with you guys)!

I got these pineapple Keri sandals thanks to Talbots and thought they were super fun (and practical, as flats)! I’ve posted about Talbots shoes often over the years, as they’re available in small sizing (5 and 5.5 are online-only) and usually have lower, walking-friendly heights. I was surprised to see such low customer ratings for these online, but after reading through them it makes sense, because the front strap on these do fit very narrow. I have narrow to medium-width feet, and the front strap on a size 5.5 fits just over my toes with no room to spare.

This peplum top runs small in the torso and has just a little stretch from the elasticized back panel (see picture # 2). It’s made of 100% lightweight cotton, with a small navy lattice trim detail along the bottom. The shoulder straps gap just a tiny bit on me where they connect to the bust, but overall the fit is pretty good. The length is just right on me for a peplum top, and actually might look too short on someone notably taller. Measurements of the xxs: 15″ across armpits, 12″ across waist, 21″ total length.

Maison Jules has really been impressing me, with some good quality pieces that actually fit and don’t break the bank! If you’re looking for a white denim jacket, this one (on sale) is very similar to my older one that I’m always wearing. The reviews indicate that it runs small and slim in the arms, which can be good news for petites! I’ve also tried on the utility jacket pictured below, and it’s a lighter-weight, versatile shirt jacket that fit pretty well on me (good for layering). Here’s a few other pieces from the brand that caught my eye, all available starting in size xxs:

That top is gorgeous on you! I absolutely love your sense of style. I have a petite frame and I always feel discouraged to shop for clothes because of it. But your blog is inspiring me to get out and enjoy finding pieces that fit correctly.

I don't know what I'm more obsessed with, the top or the pineapple sandals!

Have you heard of "The Woks of Life" cooking blog? C recently discovered it when trying to figure out how to make sticky rice with Chinese sausage. It seems like they have authentic Chinese recipes which you may enjoy cooking.

These sandals are so fun and tropical! I could definitely see myself wearing them during a summer vacay! I love they way you styled them as well. So cute!

I am an extreme petite. I like the pants but , for summer, I need to find cropped pants FOR PETITES- EXTREME PETITES! And I always like SOME heel on my sandals….. the top is cute except for the little "skirt" around the abdomen.. makes one look even more like a child than ever- NOT a good rhing😏. I am not trying to be mean- just honest. It is so frustrating trying to find clothes that fit without compromise!!

I LOVE that top! And it's actually affordable!

Jealous of your same-size-cousin-nearby! All my same-size cousins have moved out of boston, so now I've actually got to dress myself:)

Hope you're enjoying the start of summer, Jean! Love your outfit..cute summer look with a nice pop of color from the pineapple sandals!

Can't wait for your cooking posts! I'd love to learn some new Chinese recipes as my cooking repertoire is very limited at the moment.
