Bloomingdales Sale // Bardot Lace Dress + Becca Swimsuit reviews

Bloomingdales’ Friends & Family sale just kicked off online! I wanted to review a few warm-weather pieces included in this sale – while it sure doesn’t feel like it in Boston, wedding and/or swimsuit season will be here before we know it.

To kick things off… if you’re looking for a flattering, well-made swimsuit that covers trouble areas but still has plenty of sex appeal – this one by Becca is IT (also sold here). Specifically the black color if you want something extra forgiving. I can’t wait to wear it and show how it looks when on! This brand makes cute swimwear in both one and two-piece styles, and their items are very good quality from what I’ve tried.

becca swim one piece white swimsuit review

Becca swimsuit sz XS (also in black or floral), BP sunhat (with added ribbon),
Lace cover-up sz kids L (adult sizes sold here), Talbots sandals (similar here + here)

The cutout waistband hits right above my natural waist and visually “nips in” that area. The material is sturdy-feeling and lined, with removable bra padding cups. The straps are adjustable at the shoulders and tie in the back, and there’s medium/moderate tush coverage. Despite the adjustable straps, however, I wouldn’t recommend this swimsuit for someone with a shorter torso than me, due to where the bust lining begins (see picture and measurements below).

becca siren black lace trim swimsuit review

I ordered this in both black and white, and had trouble deciding which one to keep! The white is in a thicker material (probably to ensure opacity) and looks striking on, but the black is more universally-flattering and easier to keep clean.

Size-wise, I think the XS could fit someone up to a numerical size 0/2. It’s fitted on me but not super snug, and has good stretch to it. From the crotch to the bottom of the bust lining, this suit in XS measures 16″ and is borderline long on my torso. Due to the stretch, this suit would fit ideally on someone whose measurement in that area is longer than 16″ (you can measure by standing up straight, and running a measuring tape from your crotch to your bra band). If you have a short torso, this cute white one-piece has a crotch to under-bust measurement of 14″ in sz 0 (fits borderline too short on me). It does not have padding at the bust, and there’s notably less coverage at the chest and butt areas in comparison.

white lace swim beach coverup tunic dress petite fashion

PilyQ cover-up kids sz L (adult sizes), Mar Y Sol collins tote (see the size on me)

Yes, this cover-up tunic is from the kids department! I usually avoid shopping there, since the cut and proportions on kids apparel are almost never right for a woman’s body. I did try on a few girls cover-ups and all of them did not work (neck opening too small, bust gathering too high, etc), except for this one. A sz L turned out to fit perfectly, but note it has very little stretch. Also, the tassels are colored and not white and gold per the photo like I had hoped. If you go for the adults sizing, the lace looks like it can be trimmed easily with scissors along one of the scalloped rows (seal it with anti-fray), if you want to make the sleeves or hemline shorter.

Cover-up measurements in kids sz L: 18″ across the armpits and hips, 16″ across the waist, 31″ total length, 23″ sleeve length. Keep in mind this is a pullover style, so factor in some extra room needed to get it on/off comfortably over your head. FYI Nordstrom sells this at a lower retail price, but you can currently take 25% at Bloomingdales (they can probably match that final price).

bardot blue lace midi spring dress review

Switching gears, this lace slip dress from my IG would make a darling wedding guest outfit, and also comes in dark navy. It’s knee-length on the model but definitely midi on me (5′ tall). If you bought this earlier, they do price-adjust within a week! Several ladies commented with a great suggestion to shorten just the skirt lining, which I agree would help visually balance out the dress without losing any of the lace pattern. Fit info: I’m trying on XS and have the adjustable straps on a short setting, so the waistband sits higher up babydoll-style, where it’s more fitted on me. The triangular bust area is a little roomy but not too bad, and the skirt lining runs narrow across the hips when compared to the rest of the dress (hence the low customer rating). Total length not including the shoulder straps is 36″, width across the banded area is 13″, and skirt lining is 16.5″ across at the hips. The lining does stretch slightly about 2 inches, and the outer lace has a good weight and thickness to it.

And just got around to trying this suit on this weekend. It's been here patiently waiting in its delivery box all week. I'm so in love with it!!! Cape Cod weekend, here we come! Thank you so much for reviewing it! Seems like the perfect suit for a Hawaii vacay, as well.

Jean you look wonderful as always and love your choices in swimwear here. But, can we talk about cropped jeans for a minute. Everyone what are your thoughts on them? They seem to be on point right now, but do you think this is a trend that's going to stick around or does this style just look like a shrunken mistake? What's the key to pulling it off? I just got a great pair of jeans from Gap (cropped super high rise skinny) that fit in petite just like they are shown in the product photos, but I'm not sure about the 3 inches above ankle cropped length. Two inches above ankle maybe, but three seems a little too close to the 90s, especially if they shrink after washing. Yet that seems to be the current trend. Maybe it's just not one for me. Thoughts?

Hi Jean! I love that blue dress on you. If you were to get the slip underneath shortened, how many inches would you shorten it by? Thanks so much!!

Hi, Jean!! Thank you so much for this post. I frequently buy swimwear from everythingbutwater.com and have always found their customer service to be incredibly responsive. I just tracked this suit down on their site in XS. One of the few places I could still find it! Just for your readers, as it's selling out fast. Thank you for the rec!

Thank you for this post! I'm looking forward to the additional upcoming swimsuits you'll be reviewing. I'm curious to know how you found the coverage of the chest area on this swimsuit. I typically have trouble purchasing one pieces as the top half and bottom half of my body are largely disproportionate (5'1", 90lbs, 32 DD, 23 waistband). I'm confident the xs will fit my small caboose. However, I'm unsure if it will provide my chest area with appropriate coverage..

Hi Jean- That straw hat in your photo display looked very similar to a hat I loved that I found at Costco of all places! I thought about your blog when I saw this hat there because the inside rim has a very handy adjustable tie to help keep it tightly on your head (no bobby pins needed). And being at Costco it was dirt cheap (I think like $12 or so- I forgot the exact price). I will email photos since i dont know how to attach photos to the comments.
