Pink + Gray // Printed Skirt + Suede Lace Up Pumps

business casual work outfit idea pink gray

Sole Society Madeline heels 5.5 c/o (3 colors, runs a tad small)

Some of you may have seen this printed skirt in my Instagram post recently…if you have it or something similar in your closet, I wanted to show another way to style it for a very different look!

I had been eying the popular Vince Camuto lace-up pumps from the Nordies sale but the back of the shoe comes up a little high on me. These Sole Society Madeline heels are a new arrival that just hit their site…they have everything I want including a lower back, so you can tie the laces down by the ankle or lace them up the leg if desired. In the world of lace-ups, they also just got these Sequoia block-heeled sandals in that look very versatile in chestnut brown suede.

For under $80 the quality of these Madeline heels is very good, probably one of the best I’ve seen from Sole Society and looks more high-end on the foot! The suede feels nice, the “mid” 3.25″ heel is walkable, and the shoe is actually very comfortable for pumps. I’m usually between a 5 and 5.5 in most brands – the 5’s were too snug in the toes for me, but the 5.5s were perfect.

Yes you read that right this sweater is from Hollister! I haven’t shopped there much since I worked there what feels like eons ago while in school. I was doing some shopping research for an upcoming post with them, and found a few additional pieces that are both age-appropriate and cute. As with the whole family of Abercrombie stores…I prefer to do my shopping online to avoid run-ins with shirtless male employees asking if you’ve tried their denim yet, hah. I’m wearing this sweater in size XS and have the sleeves folded under about 2 inches.

Hi, I wanted to say I LOVE your blog and it has totally helped me transform my closet after being in a style rut for the past 5 years. With that being said, I see that the skirt is a mini skirt on the ASOS website, however on you it looks knee-length. Is that because you are petite?

Thanks for the response. I saw that you posted a new collab post with them so I'm curious to hear your thoughts on how you think they've gotten better. I knew the CEO was gone, but it wasn't clear to me that they had improved things, so if it's true, it would be nice to know since we petite ladies need as many options as we can have!

I feel bad for companies like Lululemon and Abercrombie where the (former) leaders really tainted the entire brand's image with commentary, and do not represent the views of many who work there. I agree the rebranding seems to be going in the right direction…only time will tell for sure! I think I know which skirt you're talking about, and it's definitely a chic piece that ppl wouldn't guess is from there.

Hi Annie! Thanks for your sweet comment. I mentioned this in the post, but I tried on the Vince Camuto ones and the back of the shoe comes up pretty high. You can see this in the product photos. I personally prefer the Sole Society ones which are at a similar price point with a regular back of the shoe, and are very comfortable.

I'm petite and slim like you and have been hesitant to shop at Hollister after the CEO's infamous comments…but I think they've rebranded themselves well since and the size and fit of their clothes is just one of the best I can find out there for my particular body frame. I just bought a colorblocked suede skirt from them the other day that after a sale came out to $12.50 and it honestly looks like something I bought at BCBG; a really rich, expensive, texture, look and feel.
Always good to give an old place another chance!

Hi Jean, love your outfit as always. Just curious what do you think about these sole society Madeline lace shoes compare to the Vince camuto "Barsha" pump? I am thinking to get one pair but not sure which one? Thank you, Annie

I agree the past CEO did not promote great values, but he was outted nearly two years ago and I really think the brand has been trying to take a turn for the better.

although the sweater looks nice, I can't stand by any Abercrombie brands. I am surprised that you promote them actually because they have had a lot of scrutiny for racist HR practices, along with a past CEO that was all about only dressing white, cool kids… Not the kind of leader or brand I want to associate with or wear.
