Retro Mint Florals

modcloth floral retro flare skirt spring outfit

Modcloth floral skirt c/o sz xs, Cafe Parfait top xs (I have black as well!)
Tri-Coastal Design umbrella, Ann Taylor sandals (sold out)

I always get excited to share bottoms that fit well without any alterations! I feel tops have a lot more leeway in fit, but skirts are more challenging, thus I get the majority of mine tailored in order to sit higher up at the waistline. This one from Modcloth in size xs measures 12″ across the waist when lying flat. A discrete elastic panel on the back waistband allows it to stretch up to 2 additional inches, so you can comfortably “let loose” after a big meal. I wore this to brunch with a friend (you may have seen it in this IG), and this skirt also looks darling paired with a chambray top or classic white button-down for work.

I have this off-shoulder cotton tee now in 2 colors, as it’s an easy little top that dresses up even basic outfits. If you’re thinking of getting one, I’d highly recommend the black to start for channeling your inner Grace Kelly.
Since I get a lot of questions on undergarments…a strapless bra is ideal under this, but I often just wear my normal wireless ones and slide the straps off my shoulders, tucking them under the sleeves (although I know that may not work for ladies who need actual “support”).

This skirt has a concealed back zip, two side pockets and is fully lined. It’s light and swingy vs a fuller structured skirt. Please note the poly material is a little wrinkle-prone, so I hang it in the bathroom during a hot shower to steam out in between wears. I am long overdue for a new hand-held steamer (and a haircut, looking at these photos…), so would love any good recommendations!

Jean, I love your hair! What products and tools did you use here? I did comb through your blog looking for tips on curls/waves–not sure if you still do or use the same products as those in your older posts.

Beautiful post, I love the entire looks! Another undergarment you could wear could be a bando bralette. Even if you're a size C cup it will add support and be more comfortable. Thanks for sharing your look.

Hi! Have you tried Nippies by Bristols Six? They are the best. Great to wear with shirts like these and with dresses that have unique cuts.

I tried on the Modcloth top and found it very clingy (aka skin tight all along the tummy) – and if you try and size up for a bit of a more comfortable fit, the sleeves/shoulders didn't fit at all. Just a warning for petite ladies who don't like skin-tight clothing (and aren't as thing as Jean!)

I love it too when manufacturer's incorporate elastic bands to skirts or just bottoms in general. It often has a better chance of fitting us ladies on the petite side. Beautiful skirt!

As for steamers, I swear by Rowenta Pro Iron. I have this one (older): https://www.amazon.com/Rowenta-Station-Stainless-Soleplate-1750-Watt/dp/B000MT519O. Both a great iron and professional steamer.

Since its unavailable, I believe this is the new version: https://www.amazon.com/Rowenta-Precision-1800-Watt-Stainless-Soleplate/dp/B0057ZG516/ref=sr_1_9?s=home-garden&ie;=UTF8&qid;=1466222074&sr;=1-9&keywords;=rowenta.

It's pricey, but its lasted my family ~3+ years now. When I'm steaming something thats hanging its definitely an arm workout. But worth it!

    Hope that helps,
    Uyen
