Caramel suede + Spring stripes

suede jacket striped tee casual boston outfit

Blank NYC suede moto jacket xs, Topshop cropped cotton tee sz 2, J.Brand jeans sz 24, BP Trolley booties sz 5.5, Goyard St Louis PM tote, Ray-Ban aviators in brown gradient, MAC lipcolor in taupe (also love twig!)

Suede is one of those materials that’s typically associated with Fall, but I love the idea of it in a warm, neutral color like this for spring fashion as well. While browsing Nordstrom, I came across this caramel jacket by Blank NYC, who also makes my favorite black moto jacket in faux leather. There aren’t too many genuine leather jackets at this price point, and the quality of this is pretty nice for the price. Fit-wise, it’s a slightly shrunken, cropped design which is always music to my ears when shopping in the regular sizing department. The suede is thick and sturdy, and the hardware has good weight to it.

I also picked up this basic Topshop striped tee from Nordstrom’s spring arrivals. I love my black & white striped tees to death, and the shorter length of this one will make it especially useful. Cropped tops are not just for belly-baring teens…look for ones that are just slightly cropped and hit a little past your natural waistline. I love them paired with higher-waisted bottoms for a clean, lump-free look because you don’t have to tuck in any extra shirt length!

An XS in this jacket measures: 14.5″ across the shoulders, 14.5″ across armpits when zipped up, 19″ total length at the longest point, 23″ sleeve length, and 5″ sleeve width. Please factor in some width due to the thicker suede material and full lining. Compared to the faux-leather version which I show on here a lot, this one is slightly less snug and there are no strong padded shoulders. This one is also notably thicker in weight, and the sleeves (there are metal zippers at the bottom) will be on the long side for petites. Please note I have them folded up here, and will be getting them shortened by my tailor.

Leaving you guys with a little anecdote about this jacket…I had layered a long black coat over it and had fully buttoned up the front, not realizing that the tail end of the brown suede belt had poked out in between two buttons! I was oblivious to the skin-toned object flapping from my groin area until I noticed the cashier at CVS stifling a giggle : )

HI Jean! I love this look. I bought the Blank NYC burgundy suede jacket but now I'm deciding if I want to add the camel color one to my wardrobe. It's such great quality for the price point. Although it is more than what I normally pay for a jacket, I think it's still worth it. Thanks for the find!

I love the outfit…the jacket is super cute. I recently bought the Banana Republic suede trench (XS worked really well for my 5'1" frame) so I'm happy to see such a cute short jacket option. I love your style Jean…everything always looks so great on you! 🙂

It's funny, I was just talking to a friend of mine during lunch today about how the one item we wanted to splurge on this season was a good beige/tan short suede jacket! It's like you read my mind 🙂 Thanks for the suggestion!

Hi! Please see my response above to ChicagoPetite. It's a little more costly than a regular hem, but most tailors do it.

Hi – I've had sleeves with zippers shortened on several jackets. They do something different depending on each situation, ie. some jacket sleeves are constructed in such a way that it's easier to take it up at the shoulders, but sometimes the zipper is pretty easy to cut (in between the metal teeth) and hem from the bottom. You can just call ahead to a tailor to make sure they'll do it and get the cost. It's a little more than hemming sleeves without zippers.

I apply Cadillac leather cleaner/conditioner with a cloth every once in a while and I stuff them when not wearing to help keep the shape. They do get pretty beat up (as you can see above) but I wear them a ton.

I also normally associate suede with fall, especially in that color, but if it's lightweight enough, it can definitely translate between the seasons. I love how you paired yours with that striped Topshop top.

How do they shorten sleeves when they have zippers like those? I tend to avoid jackets with details like that unless they're petite size because I didn't think they could be altered.

    Hi Jean!
Love this look. Question – what do you think your tailor will do to hem sleeves? Do you think they will need to replace zippers on sleeves?..i'm curious what I may need to do since I'd have the same dilemma. Thank you!!

The jacket is very cute, and I agree the suede color is nice for spring. I'm going to keep your tip about crop tops in mind next time I'm shopping for tees.
