New workwear option: The Limited petites

the limited leopard camel The Limited 1- button blazer (BOGO free) and leopard skirt c/o, Kate Spade heels (similar)

I’ve received many questions regarding The Limited Petite line, so am excited to finally talk a bit about their new offering. The Limited introduced petite sizing last month in many of their core items as well as seasonal pieces. I learned that their core “Collection” suiting line uses the same fabrics and colors season after season, so you can mix-and-match pieces over time (why more businesswear brands don’t do this is beyond me!). These coordinates are also currently on promo for buy-1-get-1 free. I chose this Collection blazer in a versatile light camel shade, plus filled a gap in my wardrobe for a leopard pencil skirt. It’s been tricky to find a print that isn’t too far on the wild side – the coloring on this one is just right for multi-season wear, and the length helps keep it professional.

Sizing for the petites line ranges from 00P / XXSP (which appear to be going fast) to 12P for certain items like suiting and skirts, and 0P / XSP to 12P for items like blouses and dresses. I found the sizing to be consistent with that of other American workwear brands, so would suggest ordering your usual size.

For fit reference, below is the skirt and Collection blazer before any styling or adjustments. The jacket fit well for a professional suit on my 5 foot tall frame, especially in the shoulder width, button placement (right at my natural waist), and length (right at the hips). The back view is also flattering. The sleeves hit about an inch past my wrists.

The skirt, as expected for me in this size, sat lower on my hips. Since I have a longer torso and want to lengthen my leg line, I had the skirt taken in 2″ down the back center zipper, which effectively raised the waistline and brought up the hem to hit above my knees. I wore both pieces for full days of work and am happy to report the materials are comfortable and don’t wrinkle.

Measurements, for reference:
Jacket in 00P: 13.5″ across shoulders, 15″ across armpits, 14″ across waist, 23″ sleeve length, 20″ torso length. Two working pockets, fully lined.
Skirt in 00P: 13″ across waist, 17″ across hips, 19.5″ length. Black waistband and black-trimmed working pockets. Material is a slightly embossed textured fabric. Fully lined with invisible back zipper closure.

Currently petite sizing is online-only and cannot be returned to stores, but The Limited is offering free return shipping for all petite merchandise.

Thank you for your kind comment! I really hope at least a few of the items ordered work out for you. It's been nice to have one more option for petite suiting other than the usual Banana Republic and AT/LOFT!

Thank you for posting a review of petite items at The Limited. I read every one of your entries, and most of the time, it's a file-away-for-later scenario for me. I am finally in a need of a suit and found myself at The Limited where they are having great end of season sales. (The sales clerk also told me that in Aug, they will be having their suit sale!) Last week when I went online, there were hardly any petite sizes in stock, but last night, I found their petite suiting available in all sizes. I ordered the Collection Slanted Pocket Jacket ($63.20) 00P and the Collection Wide Band Pencil Skirt ($35.94) 00P & 0P. Both in navy. I'm really excited to see how they fit and hope they work out due to the great pricing. In the meantime, I was so pleased I could reference your post to get an idea of fit and quality. Please keep up the good work here on ExtraPetite. You continually post relevant and helpful content. You have also help me embrace my size especially when it comes to the workplace and looking like an adult!

So, I'm going to be particularly finicky, but in case you felt like learning something about big cats, this is more of a cheetah print than leopard. It looks great, and I honestly find it to be even more versatile than leopard.

Hi there – I have tried so many styles and think they key is the look for straight cut jeans versus actual 'boyfriend' style. I really love Gap's "real straight" cut which fits on a petite frame similar to how boyfriend cuts fit on others. They offer a petite length online if you have a shorter inseam, so it takes minimal rolling to get the slightly cuffed up look. I tried a few different rolls and just at the top of the ankle looks the most flattering (in my past few blog posts I had it rolled up once too many so it's a little truncating). Good luck shopping!

So glad to hear the leopard skirt worked for you, Caroline! The material/trim was hard for me to describe and I think you nailed it. I keep on hearing nothing but positive comments on the quality so hope that's here to stay.

I was inspired by your post and ordered the skirt! I own half a dozen pencil skirts from The Limited and this will probably be my favorite. Aside from the new petite sizing it seems like the quality of their items keeps going up! The skirt fabric has a good amount of weight and is slightly textured, while the lining is soft yet substantial. The trim around the waist and pockets is a nice stiff material, and the hardware in the back is of very good quality. I'm 5'2" 115 lbs with a curvy build, and the size 2p fits me perfectly. Prior to the petite sizing I wore the regular size 2 which came down to my knees; this hits a few inches above which is much more flattering. I also ordered the Sateen Pencil Pants in 2p and was also impressed with the quality and how well they fit (I own two other pairs of their pencil pants, as well as some of their longer pants, and the material and hardware on these seems even better than usual). Maybe it's time to finally try their blazers. 🙂

I love the pop of red on the all-neutral outfit! I really enjoy dropping by your blog. I'm not petite, but I love how you embraced your body type and how you help other girls love themselves, too. Very inspiring.

I think it might just be the angle or pose : ) The skirt is flat in the front and shouldn't puff up.

Hi sharon! Unfortunately it was from a few seasons ago from the BR factory, however they have been known to bring back several popular designs over the years. i'll keep my eyes peeled this summer for something similar!
