The white blouse: Pleione crossover draped top

Pleione faux wrap blouse (8 color/pattern choices, in reg/petite/plus sizing)
Gap straight petite jeans (wearing 00P, runs small), Calvin Klein pumps (similar in sz 5+ here or here)

After having a mini wardrobe purge when my cousin came to visit (she’s a student on a budget, who just happens to be the same size!), my mind has been on closet staples. I think few pieces are more classic than a well-draping white blouse. Pop one of these over broken-in denim, or tuck into a printed skirt for work. I love the simple crossover detail of this Pleione top (& little snap button at the chest to prevent peekaboos). Nick walked by and even commented on how it “looked high end.”

Fit: The fit of a petite XS is blousy but not overwhelmingly so. The shoulders go past my actual shoulders ~ 1,” and the sleeves when fully let down are long by that length. It looks fine rolled up and secured with the button tabs for a casual look. The back “tail” is longer than the front, which you can wear untucked over skinny jeans / leggings, or fully tucked in.

Material: The 100% polyester material is semi sheer in white, so as with all white blouses you would need either a nude camisole or bra. My nude bras get more wear than anything else in my closet, so I’d highly recommend finding a close-fitting one that doesn’t show visible lines (I alternate between a wireless one from VS and an underwire one from The Little Bra Company). Blouse care tag says hand wash and line dry.

Measurements of a Petite XS: 14.5″ across shoulders, 16″ armpit to armpit (loosely measured due to the cross-over style), 22″ torso front length, 25.5″ back length, 22″ sleeve length when fully unrolled.

I was hoping this Old Navy skirt would end my search for a knit striped pencil skirt, but alas the fit did not work out. The cut is very rectangular, with a waist measurement almost equal to the hip width. As a result, it fit sitting low on my hips but not at my natural waist.

The waist is a wide slip-on style elastic band, and the entire skirt has stretch. There is external serge stitching on both sides, which makes it difficult to alter just the waistband discreetly. This was a return for me.

Measurements of XS regular: 13.5″ across the waist, 16.5″ across the hips, 15.25″ across bottom opening, 20.5″ total length.

Super helpful I wonder if the old navy skirt in petite size would fit better. I'm debating whether or not to order.

I tried on the TWO BY VINCE CAMUTO Gray Roll Tab Sleeve Wrap Front Highlow Top and it looks literally identical to that white blouse. Currently in Nordstrom Rack for $14! If you have a chance to go to the rack, it's quite a deal! Here is a link to picture of the blouse I'm talking about. http://www.lyst.com/clothing/two-by-vince-camuto-roll-tab-sleeve-wrap-front-highlow-top-shadow-heather/
    btw, I love those jeans.

I just received a pair of the "1969 always skinny" in a 00 Petite and they fit perfectly! Thanks so much for your recommendation! The denim is a little stiff but I imagine they will soften up through wash and wear!

    Hi Jean,

I love the white blouse. I called Nordstrom and of course they were sold out in store and online. I called H&M; and you can only order on line as its not in stores. I'm 42 and 4/11 and nothing irritates me more than to have to order clothes. **unless** its something I've tried on in store or I know its going to fit. I just don't have time to order and send back or return in person. I searched several stores online to see if I could find something similar and found this one in XS at Macy's. Downtown crossing (the only store to have it nearby in MA)

I tried it on, loved it and bought it. The sleeves are a tad long which is a pain for us petite girls but I don't mind it on this particular blouse. The front has a sheer cami so you really can't see through it from the front with a good nude bra. The back can easily be covered for an office setting with a sweater. Otherwise its fine out of the office. I have the same kind of jeans as well. I own the Banana Republic cheetah print mad men heels as well as a pair of Tory Burch calf hair flats. Viola almost the identical outfit and can be worn with the heels or flats.

Thank you for all your wonderful posts!

That was so informative! I never would have found this info without you. I don't have a Homegoods close to me, but I just might end up ordering one online or making one like the one alterations needed directed me to on the jezebel site. Thanks so much for the link Jean!

Oh no! Wish I knew this before ordering earlier that morning. I did see one (floral though) in store and the 4 looks pretty small, so I regret not thinking to size up.

have you tried the Little Bra Company? I've reviewed a few of their bras in old posts (linked below), and I know they carry down to 28 band sizes and introduced C+ cups last year.

Hi Pamela – what a novel thought to have this as a nursing-friendly blouse! Yes, if unsnapped the V neck would be wide open down to the waist area where it's held together.

Hi there – I don't do anything special for them at all! Just wipe with a damp cloth or paper towel if residue is building up from the salt/snow. I think that's part of the beauty on spending more for the functionality of Aquatalia's … they are weatherproofed and supposed to be able to withstand weather conditions without you worrying about ruining them.

I really like my smooth VS wireless bras in nude. It doesn't do much "enhancement" in the chest arena but they don't show visible lines under my sheer tops. I can't find the exact style I own, but try these in the color closest to your skin tone : http://www.victoriassecret.com/bras/wireless/wireless-bra-cotton-lingerie?ProductID=165559&CatalogueType;=OLS&swatchImage;=V372656_608 (I like that it comes in both light nude or dark nude) or http://www.victoriassecret.com/bras/wireless/wireless-bra-sexy-tee?ProductID=165550&CatalogueType;=OLS&swatchImage;=V386448

I will try to show more looks with these – I've shopped for "boyfriend" style jeans for so long and learned the key (if you're petite) is to just look for slightly slouchier "straight" style jeans so they won't be overly baggy and overwhelm you. The Gap Real Straight cut is nice and look boyfriend-style with the cuffs rolled up, whereas their Boyfriend cut was very baggy.
