Red peacoat + leaf print skirt

red jacket leaf skirt3

H&M; turtleneck (current) & jacket (old), skirt made by Khatu
Adrienne Vittadini ankle boots (old), Chanel wallet on chain

We were blessed this weekend with mild temperatures – while some locals reveled by dining al fresco (didn’t think it was that warm!), I took advantage and wore this to lunch with friends. Alas, it was short-lived and the weatherproof boots were back on for today’s storm.

This skirt is actually part of a summery 2-piece set (last posted here), but the twill material is nice and thick for cross-seasonal wear. To keep it from rubbing and riding up my tights, I added my trusty slip skirt.

Adrienne Vittadini booties have been my favorite. They’re comfortable and sturdily made with some traction on the soles. It’s a shame I’ve only ever seen residual sizes at Marshalls, sample sale and other discount sites – I have no idea where the brand normally distributes its collection! Here’s a mid-heel ankle boot by AV currently available in leather (or suede at half the price here), in sizes 6+.

A basic black turtleneck tee has been on my shopping list for months. I thought it would be the quickest item to check off, but wrangled with chokingly tight, giraffe-length (despite being folded), or pilling-prone variations before I found this one from H&M;. The thin jersey is soft and comfy, plus you can’t beat the price. An XS fit me well except the sleeves are a little too long, but can simply be scrunched up or hemmed.

As someone who is also petite and also lives in Boston, I really appreciate this blog! I love the midi-skirts but feel as though I am too petite to pull them off. Do you have any tips or is this a trend for the non-petites?

    Hi Jean,
I was wondering about your chanel WOC, did you have the chain shortened? I have one too but find that the chain is too long to wear crossbody. I am 5ft tall also. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Julie

I love this color combination! I also like that you chose a skirt with a slightly larger print – I think often those of us who are smaller get warned away from choosing larger prints because they can be "too big for us."

Yes, those three places have affordable tights that have lasted me a while. If you need extra warmth, look for fleece-lined tights. I want to emphasize to buy sizes (ie S or S/M) rather than one size fits all at H&M; (the 'one size' at F21 aren't as bad). I made the mistake of doing so recently and there was about a foot of extra length. Kids opaque tights also work great length-wise – I have some from Target.

I asked the same question about a month ago and Jean recommended H&M;, F21 and Talbot. I went all tights crazy since then and bought all sorts of tights since then. I even bought some girls tights 10-12,14-16 from H&M;(though I haven't tried it yet). I am 4'11 and 90 pounds and so far the S (I don't there is a XS, anyways I'm talking about the smallest one) of H&M; and F21 fits me well. I haven't tried the Talbots one yet. Hope this helps. =)
