Tis the season: Black sateen party pants and silk paisley

7 For All Mankind black sateen skinny pants c/o (sz 24, hemmed), J.Crew dress, Nordies Rack faux pearls, Ann Taylor heels c/o, Chanel wallet on chain

‘Tis the season of holiday parties, for which I love experimenting with festive fabrics and textures. As an alternative to all the skirts and dresses I’ve been showing on here, today’s look covers up the legs but still has plenty of holiday spirit. These pants feature the skinny jean cut and fit that I can rely on from 7FAM, but with the twist of being in smooth black sateen. I paired it with a flared top and cropped swing jacket, as I like balancing skinny silhouettes with pieces that have a little structure.

Depending on what type of venue you’re at, you can throw on a faux-fur shrug for a little extra warmth and glamor. These photos were taken a while back to show an outfit I’d wear indoors – I’m getting shivers thinking about being outside now without another layer!

Hi Jean! Great blog. I'm trying to find these sateen skinny pants online. Since I can't see the top of your pants in the photos, I'm having a hard time knowing if I'm looking at the right pants. Do they have a typical denim closure with belt loops, rivets, and five pockets? Yours seem to have a much better fit and look better than these ones.

Not sure if that long link will work, but it's the Lux Sateen Skinny Jeans on the Saks website. Thank you!

Hi Alison! Thank you for your kind words : ) And yay, so glad you found yourself a pair and at such a steal! Were they comfortable for you? I had to wear them for a breaking-in period which was a bummer (bought one of my friends a pair and she reported the same) – I wish shoes would just be comfortable right off the rack.

I LOVE the 7 The Skinny cut. I am 5'3 and do not need to hem them in a 25. The sateen looks gorgeous! I love this look on you. I can always count on your blog to show very lovely sophisticated but still fun pairings. I must look into these pants for the holidays. I have a velvet pair from last season (maybe J Brand?) in a flare leg…also a fun shape for festive occasions.

I bought a multi-strand pearl necklace that I absolutely love on Etsy actually! It's pretty good quality with a nice weight to it, available in different colors, and reasonably priced. (http://www.etsy.com/listing/76303750/champagne-chunky-pearl-4-strand-twisted?ref=shop_home_active) I got the champagne color, which is a really pretty off-white. (I also wore it in an outfit post recently if you wanted to see it as an example)

did you hem the dress and turn it into a shirt? iirc you had it for a dress for awhile, right? i hope it isn't permanent because i remembered you looked really cute in the dress haha.

Oooh I absolutely love the pants! I've been yearning for something alternative to black skinny jeans and typical black leggings, but didn't know what else would exist in between. Who would have thought sateen skinny pants as an option! Love this!

    Hi Jean,

I've been eyeing the PLV Mai wedges ever since you blogged about them. This past weekend, I got lucky and scored a brand new pair in my size for $35 including taxes and shipping. So excited to share my score – sorry it is unrelated to the post above!

You look lovely as always and are such an inspiration to me, style and otherwise 😉 Love your blog and happy holidays!

Ah..unfortunately this is a year or two old, but the quality wasn't great anyways as it fell apart quickly and I re-strung the beads back together. However the j.crew factory has a similar faux-pearl multi-strand necklace (http://factory.jcrew.com/womens-clothing/jewelry/necklaces/PRDOVR~27531/27531.jsp) if that's the one i saw in-person, it's shorter in length like the one I'm wearing. You can also search double strand or multi strand pearls on ebay – lots of affordable options!

The only cropped swing jacket I've found online recently is this one http://www.modcloth.com/shop/jackets/that-swing-you-do-jacket? (I think it'd look better unbuttoned) I haven't seen it in-person but it has good reviews online.

I used my trusty double-sided fashion tape to convert this into a top without affecting the silk. Lovely Elle of FF&FF; has a tutorial here using safety pins http://www.fastfoodandfastfashion.com/2013/04/how-to-convert-dress-into-top.html – I never thought this would be practical for me, but it was an accident of sorts (dress got stuck in my pants) where I happened to like the resulting look : )
