Shopping Snapshots: J.Crew & Designer Shoe Sales

**Get extra 40% off all J.Crew final sale items, both in-stores and online w/ OURTREAT. If you shop online through ebates (referral), they are currently offering increased 6% cash back.**

My picks:  Silk colorblock striped blouse in 00P-12P, now $24, Crewcuts chambray polka dot skirt (on me in sz 10) with cute pockets, now $18 w/ free ship, and Apple bobbing pants (on me in sz 12) now $24 w/ free ship.julyreviews9

Miu Miu nude platform pumps, extra 40% off at Bloomies = $288 from $645. Full price at NM.

All the higher-end department stores (Saks, NM, Barneys, etc) have been having their designer clearances this month. Discounts are steep as we’re nearing the end of the sale, but pickings are getting slim. After popping into all of these stores, the only item I fell in love with were these platform Miu Miu pumps. I’ve been looking for a sleek, sexier neutral platform shoe for special occasions, and these fit the bill. The leather is soft, the almond toe is perfectly shaped, and the platform was comfortable and super leg-lengthening. Unfortunately, only sz 6+ are available – call Bloomingdales in Chestnut, MA if interested and they can look up other sizes and ship to you.

Bloomies also has two styles of Ferragamo bow flats on sale for 50% off retail in-stores – the tortoise/lizard cap toe version, as well as the bright pink smooth patent version. These aren’t the most classic color combos, but just wanted to share.

These Chanel open-toe pumps were at both Saks and NM for this price. I slipped my foot into them and realized why they were still unsold…the front opening was so high that the entire lengths of my toes poked out (not delicate-looking).julyreviews2

J.Crew Fabiola dress in abstract leopard, size 00 regular, $42 from $178, Target sandals (old)

Extra 30% off is still going on at J.Crew, but everything is final sale. Pricing is much lower in-stores and online, and there’s some inconsistencies from store to store, depending on location. The prices listed in this post are from a suburban location. I believe stores ship to homes for a fee of $7 or $8…

There were about 5 of these Fabiola dresses hanging on the sale rack, and every single one was size 00 reg. The waist of the 00 reg is pretty small and fit me almost perfectly, which explains why it may have been unpopular with regular-sized clientele. The dress was of lovely quality – textured heavier cotton, fully lined, pockets – and could be altered to work for someone my size (take up shoulder straps, hem length, maybe slightly slim hips).

Left: Fabiola dress   Right: J.Crew No. 2 Pencil Skirt in Neon Tweed, $24.50 from $128

Next, there was a huge rack full of these No. 2 tweed pencil skirts. I even found a sz 6 Petite (return from online) which was about an inch shorter than the regular. I am naturally drawn to girly tweed and feminine colors, and was so tempted to purchase the P6 and slim the sides at the “bargain” price. I must’ve debated for over 10 minutes, but decided to leave it behind and regain focus on things from my shopping want list.

Left: Attache Linen Canvas dress, $35 from $158 Right: sz 6P skirt compared over sz 0 reg dress

I was also enticed by the low sale price of this dress, but the sizing looked very generous. I didn’t even try it on, but I compared the tweed skirt in Petite 6 to a attache dress in 0 Regular. Shockingly (see upper right photo), the petite 6 skirt measured the same in the waist as the dress and actually slimmer in the hips.

Maritime Striped Blazer, sz XXS, $56 from $118, avail. in 2 colors

My favorite thing that I tried on was this knit striped blazer. The shoulders were slightly big on me, the sleeves were slightly long, and there was some room in the torso. The jacket is unlined. I didn’t see myself wearing it too much and didn’t want to bank on it shrinking in the dryer, thus left without it. PS – these are the H&M; kids crochet shorts from this post in sz 12/13. I returned them to cut down on H&M; acquisitions, but eventually went back for them. They’re very short, but a nice textured piece to have around for casual wear.

Left: H&M; mint dress, $34.95 sz 2     Right: J.Crew poly striped blouse sz 00 regular

Also wanted to show this blouse which I really loved on a display. I saw the price tag of $128 and thought for sure that it’d be silk, but it was actually all polyester. I don’t mind poly (esp if it feels like silk!) as it’s machine-washable and easy to maintain, but I definitely expected a lower price tag for such. There’s a similar striped
blouse at J.Crew online
that’s only $24 after discounts, and it’s 100% silk and available in petites.

The photo on the left is the current, mint version of this old H&M; dress. If you missed out on the previous colors, I think the mint is a very pretty option. I did notice however, that they may have upped the price $5 from before.

i actually purchased the 00 dress at jcrew and the tweed skirt in 00 as well. they actually both fit great. i feel like the seat of the dress is a bit bigger than the skirt is because the fabric has less give, but the 00 looks generous on the rack but fits pretty slim.

I bought that H&M; mint dress and am soooo happy with it, if only for the belt! Honestly, the belt might be the best thing about the dress; it's endlessly adjustable (no holes, great for petites) and goes with so many things! Ok, and the dress is cute too. 🙂

How do you get that size 2 mint H&M; dress to lay so straight?! i have the exact one in black size 2 and the skirt portion puffs out and makes my hips look HUGE. i love the dress but i think i need to bring it to a tailor to maybe remove some of the 'flowyness' of the skirt portion!

It's outrageous that those Chanel pumps, with that label and price range, are so badly made!

My only purchases were 2 Benetton tank tops, 2 pairs of Clarks shoes (do you like them? I find their uk size 3 perfect and they look and feel great) and this top from ASOS http://images.asos.com/inv/media/6/0/3/7/2287306/black/image1xxl.jpg Isn't it lovely? I think the detailed waist should look great on us petites 🙂

Wow, that polyester blouse is muy expensive. Would have priced that at $78 for that material (even factoring in an added buffer to account for J. Crew pricing). Did you spy the Silk Bow Cami? I got mine a little over a week ago for $21 after all the discounts.

Though expensive, I like the poly blouse the best. The colors really pop and pair so nicely with your AT necklace and crochet shorts!

I love the J. Crew striped blouse, but I agree on the price tag. Maybe it will go on sale later, hopefully 🙂

I recently stopped by H&M; and found a pair of 'treggings' (leggings+trousers) in black, navy, khaki, maroon, and forest green for $12.95. The 'treggings' are made of cotton. I love the pants, the only thing is the waist line is very high so I had to switch from a size 2 to a size 4 but it was still tight and a size 6 was too baggy in the bum area. So my advice it to try a size up when purchasing these pants. Did you see these in the store during your visit?

I'm actually not too surprised by the 6P skirt vs. 0 dress comparison… I took a 6P in the high-waisted wool buttoned skirt from last winter, and I'm normally a 2P in the double-serge pencils and 0 in dresses. Still petite, but very thick-waisted.
