Last Thursday, I had the pleasure of watching my friend model at the Liberty Hotel. That afternoon, I peered into my closet and was suddenly alarmed – I had nothing fabulous to wear. As I am aging, long gone are the days of partying past 2am on weeknights. My wardrobe has slowly been whittled down to about 90% professional attire, plus some casual stragglers. There’s no excuse for this tragedy…I hope to infuse some fun pieces into my wardrobe this year.
I was relegated to wearing this old H&M; sz 4 (yes, 4…it runs so small) bandage dress plus black ankle booties.

I also had the pleasure of meeting up with IamKhatu. If you haven’t checked out Khatu’s blog yet, you’re in for a treat. She wears delightfully trendy outfits and is a testament against the excuse that tiny ladies have a harder time being fashion-forward. The photo above is us kicking our shoes off to compare height (I was in 4″ booties, and she, in 6″ platforms). Being that I’m 5 feet tall, dare I guess Khatu is 4’10” or below?
Khatu talked about how a lot of her clothes are still big for her, but it’s all in how you wear the garments, stand, and carry yourself. She also does a lot of DIY alterations. Below is her trademark strong-shouldered coat from Zara that is big on both of us. The coat is undoubtedly wearing me and swallowing me up, versus Khatu who is wearing and rocking the coat.
Jean, did Khatu mention how she was able to get her jacket to fit so well on her?
Um hello, I think Ms Chanel deserves her own post! LOVE! Did you get the medium? I just got the reissue and I love it! So pricey but I figure the price is only going to go up!

Hm.. Jean, it looks as though I'm going to have to pick one up second hand — that was the plan. I want a beige or a taupe color as well, since I think it's more "matchable". I have the same question as kimmie above, how likely is it to find the color you want after?
I may have to put my save-for-Chanel money into stocks or something 😛 I had forgotten about those exorbitant price hikes!

I'm so jealous of your Chanel bag, I was literally drooling over it when you posted the picture on twitter. It's the exact color/size that I want! And I'm so sad that it's a discontinued/past-season color because it's gorgeous. Did you buy it second-hand, or were you able to find it at a retailer?

@Jessica Hi Jessica, I actually have one strapless bra from The Little Bra Company (if you search in my Google search box on the sidebar you can probably find it) called the "Sascha" style. It fits me slightly loose – I probably could've sized down to a 30A. I like it, but it doesn't give enough push-up for a dress like this. I'm actually wearing a push up bra from China, that is a regular underwire bra, but the straps come off. I removed the straps and switched in clear straps (available on ebay or Claire's, etc). I need straps to give the extra "push up" !
@Anonymous It is the M/L size. I like both sizes very much! In person, the S/M (it's weird..Chanel boutique insists on calling it the "true medium" size but Bloomies insists on calling it the "small") is only a tiny bit smaller. Maybe an inch on each side. I love the smaller size, but they don't make it anymore in colors other than black!
@grace It's not from Bloomies (unfortunately, the color I desired is from an old season and Bloomies only had black) : ) I hope your bag dream comes true with careful planning! Keep in mind that the prices increase a lot each year…my money doesn't grow at the same rate as their exorbitant price hikes.
4'10" or 5' 10" ! It's not an issue.
Khatu is beaming with confidence, personality and has an unique style. She's the kind of girl who can turn a potato sack into Haute couture.
You are at your prime! Sweetheart. I doubt aging is a concern at this phrase of life. Check out Milly and Chloe, their dresses are well tailor and fun to wear.

I always buy dresses thinking about what-if scenarios… but when something does come up, nothing in my closet ever seems appropriate. You look gorgeous and your LBD looks perfect for this event! Like you I don't have many items for clubbing or semi formal wear in my closet. Total fail. Don't you hate when that happens? You clear your closet of everything but your essentials then one day BAM! you're invited to an event and now you're thinking "shouldn't have thrown that out…" I don't think you need MANY formal or dressy items in your closet. Good thing you had a little black dress handy.

I feel your pain about not having anything "fabulous" to wear. I can dress casually quite well, but if I have to go somewhere trendy and dressy, I'm lost!
