6 Outfits Lately with Leggings

Aritzia coat xxs short (petite) c/o, Quince sweater xs (worn backwards; or get the same look with this crewneck I love!), A+F leggings xxs, Caslon $50 boots 5, Aritzia hat, YSL bag

New year, same winter uniform : ) For the week between Christmas and New Year’s I was living in leggings + a cozy relaxed pullover, a combo that I’ll be defaulting to for a while longer! I wanted to share a few easy examples and some comfortable shoe options.

The above pic was snapped on a particularly cold day, so I had on my trusty trifecta of layers: a heattech thermal top, a thicker ribbed sweater, and one of my warmest wool coats. This coat definitely runs big / oversized but has been perfect for fitting comfortably over thicker layers. It’s currently on sale and still left in several colors – just FYI exchanges / store credit only for sale items.

Petite-friendly black leggings

I wanted to round up some of th leggings in my usual rotation, listed in order of thicker to thinner:

If you’re placing an order at Uniqlo, I’d stock up on the some Heattech shirts as well as a few pairs of leggings since you’ll want to wear them all the time! My favorite shirts are the ultra warm ones for wearing alone as a shirt, or these thinner scoop neck tops for layering under sweaters without the neckline showing (xxs in both).

  • Zella 7/8 length. I love mine from years ago, but don’t know if they’ve changed these!
    • Compression: Medium
    • Material: medium weight activewear fabric
    • My size: xxs, sometimes xs
  • Abercrombie SculptLux 7/8 length. I wear these from casual to travel to workouts.
    • Compression: Medium
    • Material: medium weight activewear fabric
    • My size: XS Short
  • Aritzia butter in Short. Incredibly soft & comfortable for lounging in.
    • Compression: low
    • Material: lightweight, buttery soft and smooth fabric
    • My size: I sized up to 0 Short since I don’t like my leggings too snug.

And for some footwear ideas to wear with leggings:

With winter boots

petite friendly winter puffer coat bernardo coat blondo boots
Bernardo puffer xs (borrowed from mom; roomy on me), Zella 7/8 leggings xxs, Blondo boots 5.5, $15 sunnies, Aritzia boot socks

These waterproof Blondo boots (on sale!) are reminiscent of an older lace-up pair I had. I sold them a while back and got these instead with a zipper on the side for quick on & off in the mornings! They’ve been comfy right off the bat with no breaking in needed. I took my usual 5.5 which I can wear with thicker socks and still have a little wiggle room.

with chelsea boots

petite friendly winter outfit j. crew coat
J.Crew Factory coat xxsp (similar), Quince pants xxs, Caslon boots 5, Cafune bag c/o, $15 sunnies

I can’t believe these waterproof Caslon chelsea boots are still stocked at this price! I got mine years ago and they continue to be a favorite each Fall and winter.

Also wanted to mention these pants again that I like as a leggings alternative. They’re stretchy and slim fit like leggings, but have a little more structure and feel less casual – even office appropriate. They come in 3 inseam options and run a little small for me – I’m in size XS 25″ inseam above and it’s a snug fit.

with ballet flats

Flats not pictured, but en route to ice skating I wore my Sézane suede flats with this outfit (I have low ankles so do need to wear them with heel lifts to eliminate rubbing). Tuckernuck has a beautiful version of the dip front flats that starts in size 6 and up.

On me: Abercrombie coat xxs petite, earmuffs, Celine bag // On Nori: Abercrombie kids jacket

with sneakers

aritzia butter leggings short fleece petite
Aritzia fleece xxs c/o, crew tshirt xxs, Aritzia butter leggings xs short (petite), New Balance 530s (I have on the kid’s version size 3.5)

With Uggs

Not pictured unfortunately as I had just kicked off my Ugg slippers, but I was thinking Ugg minis would be perfect with this cozy outfit!

I know it’s not pictured in this post, but I absolutely love your brown JW Pei Mini Flap bag that you posted pictures of last Fall. I noticed a few negative reviews on Amazon that claimed the brown bag had quite a purple tint to it. Do you find this to be the case? Any cons about this bag in general? I absolutely love your blog and check every day for new posts 🙂

Hi Sophia! So sweet of you, thanks so much for reading along! I don’t know if you follow on LTK but I’ve been updating there with posts daily when I don’t get a chance to blog : ) Regarding your question, yes I would say it has a hint of purple. It’s similar to my madewell accessories that have a color name “Chocolate Burgundy” if that helps! Overall I find it to be a great value and I love that the strap detaches. I’m honestly not bothered by the color…a colleague of mine brought it to a work lunch once and several of us ordered it on the spot after seeing it in person!

I bought the Caslon Miller boots three years ago when first rec’d on this blog and wore them to shreds! They were great for walking and went with everything. I just replaced them and was so happy to see that basically no changes have been made since I last bought them. I also picked up the Blondo boots on sale and they’ve been great so far in this recent cold snap on the east coast. Thanks for the recs!

Hi Elizabeth, I’m so glad both boots have worked out for you! They’re both some of my favorite winter staples. And that’s helpful to know that the Caslon boots have not changed much since I’ve been curious about that!

What kind of underwear do you usually wear with leggings that aren’t covered by a long top? I’m not a fan of thongs or going commando and would appreciate options that minimize VPL!

I also avoid thongs unless absolute necessary! I wear my Everlane ones a lot since they are high rise with compression and I make sure to flatten the edge seams down before pulling on my leggings.

I’d love to add Nadaam cashmere leggings! They are ribbed, soft, and can be dressed up or down.

What are your thoughts on that Abercrombie coat regarding sizing and quality?

Their tailored topcoat has been around for a while! It’s a good value for the price IMO since it’s not easy to find petite sized outerwear. My usual size xxs petite fits me well with room to layer a thick sweater, and it’s fully lined.

Have you tried Athletas Salutation 7/8 petite?! They are the only leggings I’ve found that don’t go past my ankle! ❤️

I haven’t! I’ve browsed Athleta a lot and get overwhelmed sometimes with the selection. Thanks for the tip!
