A few weekend notes – firstly, Madewell’s insider event just kicked off with 25% off for insiders (free to sign up for an account)! I shared a few items I’m eying in petite sizing here, including breezy cropped pants and their signature vintage style jeans.

I often get asked about my YSL Solferino bag, and noticed it’s available on FWRD with a 10% off code! I tested the code and it also works on many designer brands including Bottega and Loewe. I’ve bought several items from FWRD over the past years, including YSL accessories, and have personally always had a good buying & returns experience. Just FYI, if you’re taller than me (5′) then the strap on this bag might be too short to wear cross-body style.

I also wanted to share more appreciation for these Converse platforms, which have now become my unofficial mom-on-duty sneaker! I used to find Chucks to be too youthful and almost grungy, but my interest slowly grew and grew after I kept seeing them on stylish women my age.

Chuck Taylor Platforms vs. Non Platforms

While I do think the non-platforms actually look more chic, I prefer the platforms for comfort (apparently there’s a huge difference – see comfort section below) and a little height boost. Since platforms can look a little more young I try to balance them with more grown-up pieces, like a long wrap or tailored coat plus an elevated handbag.

Fit & Sizing

These Converse platform sneakers run a little big but also narrow. I’m usually between a 5 and 5.5 in most brands, and first tried a 5.5 which were too long inside the foot, but a 5 turned out to be a great fit. The width also fits me fine, but I’ve heard that ppl with wide feet find Converse to fit narrow.

Comfort

I honestly find the platform sneakers to be cushioned and comfortable, with no breaking in needed for me. I got dozens of messages from some of you who own both the platform and non-platform Chucks, and said the platforms are significantly more comfortable than the regular sneakers. I walk to and from school pickup in mine, can spend a day with the kids at the zoo and other outings in them, and never had to break them in.

My only gripe as a busy mom is that I need to tie and untie them each time I wear them, so an inside zipper would be a dream addition to make that process quicker! Here’s a few other ways I’ve worn mine:

Thank you for this blog post. I’m a Mom with little ones and I have 2 very distinct wardrobes with neutral cashmere knits and tailored wool pants for work but off duty it’s jeans and a hoodie. I think you showed how the wardrobes can meet, with comfort, style and ease. Thanks again!

Love it! I’ve had it for maybe 2 years now? I’ve had a little pilling which is normal and I’ve used my sweater shaver to tame it.

Here’s a link to my review of Quince pieces, including this sweater!

Hi Jean, I love those Converse shoes, but I actually wear a kids’ size 3 (with insoles) in the non-platform pair I have. Do they have this style in big kid sizes? I’m really hesitant to try these in a 5 because 5s are often too big for me. I would love some spring sneakers with a little height boost, though!

Hi Rose, they do! I was definitely interested in trying their kids but wasn’t sure what size I’d be so stuck to the adults, but here’s the link for the same shoe in kids!

Elastic laces! Game changer. Haven’t tied laces in years, before and after kids. Give even more time with high tops to find the sweet spot length. Then tie a knot and burn the ends. Out the door in a snap!
