express petite clothing casual fall outfits

high waist legging jeans 0 Short on sale!Express drape trench jacket XXS Petite (also in regular) c/o, ribbed dolman sweater XS, Gucci bag, VC sunglasses in “gold”

These are the only bottoms I’ve bought postpartum so far, and they’ve been getting more than their fair share of wear! Nick finally asked gently whether I have any other pants ; ) See these jeans also blogged here with a bow blouse and flats, and you can use code 5040 to take $25 off $100 either in-store or online (coupon terms). I got the Short length which is extra cropped in this particular style (23″ front inseam, 24″ back inseam), so if you’re even a bit taller than me you might want to try the Regular length (I estimate those have a ~ 25″ inseam).

I’m partnering with Express today to share work-appropriate Fall pieces like this soft draped trench coat, available in both regular and petites! Swap in ankle pants instead of denim for a chic business casual look. I found sizing for this jacket to run roomy, with enough layering space in the sleeves to fit a thick sweater or blazer underneath. The medium-weight fabric requires ironing / steaming out of the package and is not lined like most drape-front pieces. Note this is intended to be a longer duster style jacket that hits below the knees. Contrary to popular belief, this midi length can actually be quite flattering on petites if the rest of the outfit is more fitted and slim!

Tip: If you want to read more customer reviews for something, check the same item under regular sizing. There’s usually several more reviews there than there are under petite sizing!

Here’s a few other favorites that are back from previous years:

    • High Waist Tie Sash Pants – See my blog post + review. I wore 00 Petite in these flattering pants pre-pregnancy, and am excited to see tons of new colors listed under regular sizing with a “Short” inseam! I have not tried this pant yet in Short sizing, but from experience, Express’ Short sometimes fits me better than their petite pants (and runs about an inch shorter).
    • Ruffle fit & flare dress – See my blog post + review. This was by far one of the most popular items that I’ve featured last year, based on reader feedback (loved seeing your photos in this dress)!
    • Balloon sleeve sweater – See my blog post + review. I just dug this chunky knit out of my winter storage and got so many compliments on it already!
    • Classic double breasted trench – I finally tried this newer trench on, and it’s indeed super similar to the one I have from last year and love. Material is medium-weight with a smooth finish, and feels durable with a full lining. It has all the classic trench features, and the Pale Pink color looks true to the stock photo. Size petite xxs fits me with room to layer.

In love with all of these super chic pieces from Express, especially those high-waisted trousers! And this trench coat is gorgeous too! <3 🙂

Just started a conservative corporate manager position and I am in need of some cute blazers, any suggestions?

      • Reply Jean | Extra Petite November 3, 2018 at 5:06 pm

Sorry for the super late reply, but I love my blazers from Ann Taylor petites, H&M (sleeves need hemming if you have shorter arms), Banana Republic petites , and Theory if you don’t mind splurging!

I was so sad I missed out on the last trench you shared. I’m happy you found an alternative that looks just as great!

That trench is everything! I am petite like you so I need this!

Love the simplicity of the trench. Been looking for a longer version from my Burberry and this one looks pretty close to what I’ve been looking for!

Here in Switzerland the weather has turned from summer to autumn, punctual on the 1st of October. Your blogpost is also perfectly planned Jean. I like it that you also show previous favourites. Like you I took a chunky knit (a mustard yellow cardigan in my case) out of my winter storage and got many compliments on it too! I think it’s environmental friendly to shop in your own closet as well as in shops! Love, Lieske

I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that Nick would notice what pants you’d been wearing an awful lot!

I love the look of that duster but really have to stick to non-iron/steam pieces these days between the dogs and the kiddo, so I’ll leave it to the experts like you 🙂

How’s the material quality and thickness of the high waist tie sash pants? I ordered a similar (same?) pair in a different color from Express a few months back but had to return due to the thinness of the fabric. The VPL was too much for me — I couldn’t even get away with seamless panties!

      • Reply Jean | Extra Petite November 3, 2018 at 5:04 pm

Sorry for the delayed response, Maria! You must’ve ordered the jersey sash pants (which I personally like for lounging, but I agree they are probably more VPL prone), and the ones I linked here are different in a work pant-like material and thicker.

Love your pics! However, as a Canadian, I must say I’m disappointed. I ordered the trench coat featured in this post along with a few other items and was unexpectedly charged a $60.00USD international processing fee that did not appear anywhere, except for the very last stage (giving shoppers no option to decide if they still want to buy the items with the fee). Then, the trench coat was out of stock despite the order being processed. I expected all charges related to the trench coat to be refunded, but the international processing fees for the trenchcoat (around $30.00 USD) were still charged, along with my bill for the other items. The Canadian Border Agency refunds fees in situations like this to companies (ie. Express) so this is really not right. Customers should not be charged international processing fees for items they don’t receive, and it would be a good practice to make shoppers aware that such fees exist before collecting payments.

If there is some form of feedback you could give express, international customers would really appreciate it! Extremely disappointed.

Hi Stephanie! Just wanted to let you know after I saw your comment I immediately wrote to my contacts there with your concerns. I would be extremely disappointed as well. They said they were looking in to it but I have not heard back yet – I’m just letting you know that I appreciate the feedback (let me know if your processing fees were ever refunded in full) and that I did pass it along.

      Pretty. Everything.
Would you mind if I ask your height and weight? I’m 5’7 and 116 lb, just wondering what size would fit me well? I’m thinking size 2.

      • Reply Jean | Extra Petite November 3, 2018 at 5:04 pm

Hi Leah! Sorry for the late reply, I’m 5 feet tall and about 100 pounds. I think a Regular 2, possibly even 0 on some items would work for you! They also make tall sizing.
