H&M; coat, Kate Spade pumps, DIY leopard clutch
We’re kicking off wedding season this weekend with two of several dear friends getting hitched this year! The style of each celebration is very different, so I’m excited to share a variety of looks for guests. In my first post with DVF I showed her iconic wrap dresses. A wrap in a vibrant color or print would be perfect for a sunny garden, backyard or resort wedding. Today I wanted to share another one of her signature designs – a more demure look perfect for cocktail occasions.
I had seen this Zarita dress on a friend before and loved its understated elegance. The entire dress is lace, with same-colored lining throughout the body and no lining in the sleeves for a demure bit of peek-a-boo action. An exposed bronze zipper down the back center adds a little edge, and the neckline (boatneck in the front, V in the back) and hemlines have scalloped lace. The fit is flattering on shorter figures, with the sleeves and length hitting just where I like it.
There’s a number of colors to choose from, including classic black or navy, a gorgeous deep plum, as well as white which would work nicely for pre-bridal events. I picked the nude which is a soft dusty peach, and kept this look neutral with a hint of animal print.
Sizing to me feels true to size, depending on how snug you’d like this. In my opinion the stretchy lace looks best as a snug fit to show off curves, so size down if you’re in between sizes. I am wearing a 0 regular which was a tad loose in the armholes and then at the bottom leg opening where the end of the zipper is (see before photo). The photos in this post are after alterations by my tailor, who slimmed the sleeves through the armhole and tapered the bottom of the skirt.
I loved the length of this dress as-is, which on me hit right above the knee. It’s usually shown as a mini on models, but I saw they now have the Zarita in a longer length for taller ladies a well as a scoopneck version for those who don’t like the high neckline. PS – For those who had asked to see step-by-step alterations from my wrap dress post, I’ve been wearing it as-is so far with no adjustments.
DVF is also having extra 30% off sale items this weekend with code SUMMER30. I like the flattering ruching on the Anya striped dress (now $85 before shipping, please note final sale) which is still available in all sizes. I would estimate sz P to fit a 0-2 due to the stretchy material. I also love the whimsical elephant print of this Gilmore silk blouse in a chic black & white palette. See my other sale picks below:
