Diane Von Furstenberg Zarita Lace Dress c/o (5 colors, altered – see below)
H&M; coat, Kate Spade pumps, DIY leopard clutch

We’re kicking off wedding season this weekend with two of several dear friends getting hitched this year! The style of each celebration is very different, so I’m excited to share a variety of looks for guests. In my first post with DVF I showed her iconic wrap dresses. A wrap in a vibrant color or print would be perfect for a sunny garden, backyard or resort wedding. Today I wanted to share another one of her signature designs – a more demure look perfect for cocktail occasions.
DVF zarita lace dress6I had seen this Zarita dress on a friend before and loved its understated elegance. The entire dress is lace, with same-colored lining throughout the body and no lining in the sleeves for a demure bit of peek-a-boo action. An exposed bronze zipper down the back center adds a little edge, and the neckline (boatneck in the front, V in the back) and hemlines have scalloped lace. The fit is flattering on shorter figures, with the sleeves and length hitting just where I like it.
DVF zarita lace dress1There’s a number of colors to choose from, including classic black or navy, a gorgeous deep plum, as well as white which would work nicely for pre-bridal events. I picked the nude which is a soft dusty peach, and kept this look neutral with a hint of animal print.
DVF zarita lace dress2 copySizing to me feels true to size, depending on how snug you’d like this. In my opinion the stretchy lace looks best as a snug fit to show off curves, so size down if you’re in between sizes. I am wearing a 0 regular which was a tad loose in the armholes and then at the bottom leg opening where the end of the zipper is (see before photo). The photos in this post are after alterations by my tailor, who slimmed the sleeves through the armhole and tapered the bottom of the skirt.

I loved the length of this dress as-is, which on me hit right above the knee. It’s usually shown as a mini on models, but I saw they now have the Zarita in a longer length for taller ladies a well as a scoopneck version for those who don’t like the high neckline. PS – For those who had asked to see step-by-step alterations from my wrap dress post, I’ve been wearing it as-is so far with no adjustments.

DVF is also having extra 30% off sale items this weekend with code SUMMER30. I like the flattering ruching on the Anya striped dress (now $85 before shipping, please note final sale) which is still available in all sizes. I would estimate sz P to fit a 0-2 due to the stretchy material. I also love the whimsical elephant print of this Gilmore silk blouse in a chic black & white palette. See my other sale picks below:

Disclosure: This was a sponsored post. As always, opinions shared here are my own.

I love love love this outfit! The dress looks fabulous on you and the leopard clutch and white coat only make everything look better!
I fear that the color of the dress wont be so suitable for me, because I have fair skin and light colored hair. I love it better with your dark hair.

oh my god. Your body is perfect cut for their clothes!! I love the second shot of yours too!

A question regarding this dress, do you think it will be suitable for midsummer wedding celebration? We are planning to have a wedding celebration, not a full-blown wedding, (and yes, me featuring as the bride. 🙂 ), but I am still on the hunt for a dress. Do you think this would be appropriate piece? Thanks for your thought!

Such a pretty dress! I love lace and blush pink by themselves usually, so combined, it's perfect! I adore how you styled the look with the leopard clutch!

Oh my, so love this dress!! The whole look is fabulous. I'm looking for a guest wedding outfit for August in Texas. Not sure if material would be too hot for Texas in August but this look is pure elegance!

Dear Jean, my favorite fashion blogger, you are so beautiful and your style is stunning at the same time relatable. Your ring is breath taking. I have a question to ask you; I know you did a review on TLBC, do you still think they are worth splurging? which style from them do you recommend for strapless bra and everyday comfortable bra with some lift ? Do you think Nordstrom have any strapless bra that works well for small frame? Thank you so much. I really appreciate that you reply every time I ask you a question.

Still kicking myself for not buying those bronze pumps when they were still in stock! They seem to go with everything! Anyway, before I miss out on another great item, I was wondering if you kept the white skirt you purchased from Nordstrom? I saw the restocked x-small!

You always go to so many weddings! Must be fun to get dressed up all the time…. Love this dress and how you make it look so gorgeous!

Hmm, isn't this dress too close to beige/white/cream and lacey to be worn to a wedding?? It's a gorgeous dress and great fit though!

    • thelittlemissindependent May 29, 2014 at 1:23 pm

I have the same "too petite" dilemma too, and find it hard to order clothes online because they end up not fitting me perfectly. A perfect fit works wonders for any piece of clothing. I've tried following a lot of fashion bloggers who I thought had the same problem and looks like the common thing really is, either to be good friends with a trustworthy tailor, or to learn to tailor the clothes yourself.

Looks like there's no escaping this fact. Unless I'd have to shop in the teens section forever (No!)

Anyway, beautiful dress, and beautiful posts. Keep on inspiring extra petite ladies that dressing up CAN be done. 🙂

Such a cute look! Loving that dress!

    • Jean May 30, 2014 at 11:06 am

A reader mentioned that Ivanka Trump has a pointy pump in a similar dark bronze! I actually did not keep the white because although it's the same quality and material as the black, I thought the black hid the 'average' quality better. The search for a similar one continues!

    • Jean May 30, 2014 at 11:07 am

Thank you! : ) I don't…it may just be fading from sun exposure.

    • Jean May 30, 2014 at 11:09 am

Thank you so much for your sweet comment! It means a lot to me that this site is one of your favorites! I have to say I love my TLBC strapless and wear it every week (with the straps on). However if you can wear a 32 band or above there may be many more options out on the market. For below 32 (and not very forigiving since straplesses can slide right on down if its not snug) there's not much to compare with the color and style options of TLBC. The color of mine is now a far cry from its original because I've worn and washed it so darn much so I plan on buying a replacement soon.

Thank you, Grace! I did get it resized, but am struggling with finding the right size between what fits shrunken fingers in the cold or swollen ones in the heat…very curious what others do!

    • Jean May 30, 2014 at 11:11 am

Mirada – congratulations on your upcoming wedding celebration! How exciting! I think this in white is perfect for less formal bridal events. It's elegant and sexy but provides coverage. Not sure if you looked at BHLDN online yet but I also love their shorter dress options.

    • William June 7, 2014 at 8:27 am

Gorgeous dress! It also fits you perfectly!

    • Anonymous August 7, 2014 at 8:49 pm

Hi Jean, I couldn't stop thinking about this dress and how great it looked on you, so bought the plum version (sz 0, it's a little loose on me too) for a wedding next month in hopes it would look fab on me, too. Only thing is that the wedding is Black Tie. Do you think this dress would be appropriate for that dress code or should I continue my search? Tried some Asos dresses (less expensive) as well, but no luck.

I'm envy with your beautiful dress. Wish I could have one. You look lovely!!
