A little Paris in Boston // Classic Wrap Dress + Tassel Earrings

We made it back to Boston tonight and were met with a pleasant surprise - it was warmer here than in Hawaii (quite a change from when we had left town)! We took advantage and had dinner al fresco in the neighborhood at Frenchie, which is a little slice of Paris on the sidewalks of Boston.

Before the 50% off sale at Ann Taylor comes to an end tonight, I wanted to share this vibrant look that I picked out from their latest collection. I've been loving their new earrings, including these statement round raffia ones I bought while on vacation (see them on me), and these medium-sized beaded tassel ones which come in 5 colors. The "midnight depths" color is actually a gorgeous medium silver, which has a vintage feel against the antique gold-toned accents.

Ann Taylor makes petite wrap dresses each season in multiple colors and patterns, the latest of which is this vibrant tomato red-orange one with gray fern print. The material is machine-washable and stretchy, and my usual size was a good fit on me throughout (even the sleeve length, which ends right at my wrist bone). The cut is very similar to iconic wrap dresses that are several times the price, however note per online reviews that the neckline may be less flattering on those with fuller busts.

As for work-friendly sale suggestions, this striped wrap top (2 color options) combines two things that I adore. Just ordered it to try, and will keep you guys posted on fit/quality after it arrives. I've also been a fan of their machine-washable camp shirts, and love this cute new orange blossom print for spring / summer pairings.

One other piece that I did try on and would recommend is this bardot-style striped top, which probably wouldn't have caught my eye online! In person, I liked that the material was thicker with good elasticity. It fit snugly on me across the shoulders, and would look chic tucked into an A-line skirt or paired with black or colored slacks. You can also wear it higher up on the shoulders like a wide boat neckline.

    1. Hi Valeri - the tassel ones are not heavy! The raffia ones are a little heavier, but still wearable for a few hours without discomfort (for me, at least)

  20. Hi Jean!
I love this dress in you. Thanks so much for all of your ideas. This may be too much to ask, but I am exactly you height and inseam, only I weigh a lot more : ) I am still am not that overweight. I am a petite medium and size 6 or 8 pants, and have boobs and a tummy. Would you ever consider doing something on dressing well when you are short and curvy, especially with a tummy to hide? Say maybe how you dress on your "feeling fat " days? It would be so helpful!

    1. Hi there - ohh, we ALL have those feeling fat days. But I won't confuse dressing for that with styling a healthy, curvy body. I have a few friends who are my height and curvy and always look cute, and I'd love to tap into them for some figure-flattering inspo. For me personally, elasticized higher-waisted flare skirts with a tucked-in top are one of my go-to looks for hiding a tummy. I've also been defaulting to black skinny jeans or leggings plus a tunic-length top with sleeves cuffed up.
