I was recently asked to try Trunk Club‘s newer women’s styling service, and wanted to share my experience as someone who usually spends more time shopping due to fit challenges. I get daily messages from ladies requesting help with their shopping needs (ranging from picking out special occasion outfits, to helping with building an everyday wardrobe) – I am not a personal shopper myself, but think Trunk Club’s free service would be perfect for someone who is short on time or would like professional styling. After signing up online, I was matched with a stylist, Zoey, who reached out to chat about my style, body type, measurements, as well as anything either in general or in particular (ie. events or trips) that I was currently shopping for. I mentioned I generally love to mix high end + low end, and stressed the importance of fit on my shorter frame. I told her I’d love to see a mix of both classic and trendy pieces for a refresh on spring wardrobe basics.
Upon opening my first trunk which arrived on my doorstep in a few days, I could tell Zoey took everything I said into consideration. There was a range of price points and pieces (along with mix-and-match pairing suggestions!) from classics like Equipment silk blouses and Rag & Bone jeans, to fast fashion items from Topshop and smaller labels I hadn’t seen before. What I especially appreciated was the range of sizing in my trunk (in both regular and petites) based on what Zoey knew about certain brands and specific pieces running bigger or smaller, longer or shorter – taking the guesswork out of gauging size when shopping online. After receiving a trunk, you get 10 days to try on your items at home and only pay for what you want to keep, with free shipping both ways. There is no stylist fee, and it’s not a subscription service so you only request a trunk from your stylist whenever you want one.
Here are some of the items I tried on from my trunk, including a Topshop striped tee, Paige jeans, and Joie jacket – all in a range of sizing that each fit my frame well:
Trying on a few more pieces from my trunk – I had asked for classic denim short options that were casual but at a modest length with cuffs:
My favorite piece in my trunk has to be a pair of Rag & Bone jeans (worn below) that I likely would’ve never found on my own. The stock photo for this style & wash looks very different online, but in-person it’s a weathered vintage blue wash that I strive for when denim shopping (and had mentioned to my stylist). They are actually labeled capris but Zoey guessed they’d fit my shorter legs perfectly as regular jeans, and she was spot-on about that down to the distressing placement.
For those who live in NYC, Dallas, Chicago, LA or DC, Trunk Club also has physical clubhouse locations where you can set up a time to try on all the items your stylist pulled for you in-person. Something that I thought was really awesome is they offer free basic alterations on items you decide to purchase at your sessions. Thank you to Trunk Club for partnering on this post!
