Off-shoulder styles are everywhere this year and I’m not complaining…I love highlighting the shoulder and neckline area as an elegant alternative to showing skin elsewhere. Whenever I’m in an outfit slump and want to wear comfy jeans for a night out, tops like this are usually the answer for dressing up basic bottoms. I wore my white off-shoulder sweater so much over winter, I knew I wanted a similar top updated for warmer seasons. I tried on both this ASOS one as well as a simpler alternative (see photos below), both of which fit well.
Yes I’m back in my favorite jeans again, and they are currently on sale for 30% off at Saks under their Friends & Family event! This is a step up from the usual F&F promos of 20 - 25%. I’ve mentioned before how much I love the high-waisted style of these (holds the tummy in comfortably), and here’s yet another example of how that style comes in handy. For tops like this that are a little cropped, high-waisted bottoms are perfect for maximum lengthening of the leg line, and more importantly to avoid letting your midriff hang out. I did have to get these hemmed but it's a small price to pay for jeans at the perfect length.
Here’s a few other items I love included in Saks’ F&F promo:
- Rag & Bone jeans in "Murray," (link doesn't always work, but look for this wash) a distressed faded vintage blue. See on me below, here, and here. The capri length of these were close to perfect on my shorter legs sans-alterations.
- Rag & Bone jeans in "La Paz," a minimally distressed medium blue. The length is slightly longer than the Murrays but still shorter than their standard jean. I did not have get this hemmed and just cuff it up. See on me here, here and here.
- Sunglasses are mostly 25% off, including designers like Prada, Illesteva, Ray-Ban, etc.
- If you’re shopping for your men, Nick picked up this navy knit bomber jacket - it looks better in person with thin white stripes at the collar that isn't visible in the stock photo. I’m all about making simple substitutes to improve an outfit, and jackets like this are an easy replacement for hoodies but looks significantly more refined.
Size-wise, this top is slightly flared and the shoulder band is elastic, so there can be some leeway for sizing. I took a US 0 and likely could've gone up a size as well with the shoulders still being tight enough to stay up in the right place. Going up a size might get you an extra bit in length if you don't want it to be so short. And here's the similar alternative I tried on from Boohoo petites:
As mentioned in my past Boohoo posts, this brand is fast-fashion quality as indicated in the very low price points. The material of this top is sort of a smooth scuba/neoprene-like poly and the ASOS one is a woven poly/elastane material. Both have a little stretch. The biggest differences between the fit of the Boohoo petite UK4 and UK6 on me was total length and tightness of the elastic shoulder band. Both fit on me but I was a little more comfortable in the UK6. In the end, the ruffled sleeves on the ASOS one won out for me!

Ending this post with a photo of this outfit in action recently...oh Nick, never missing out on a chance to horse around during a photo op together!
