For those who celebrate - I hope your Christmas holiday was filled with laughter, hugs, and good food. I was spoiled by home cooking and had a blast with my little brothers, giggling under throw blankets with bowls of popcorn and Disney movies. It's special times like that with loved ones that mean so much more to me than presents under the tree. Yesterday was spent on the opposite coast with Nick's family, and was filled with delicious dim sum, a good cry during Les Miserables, and some of the best Filipino fare I've ever had.
I popped into Ann Taylor for a hot second before the movie, enticed by 50% off full priced items (use code GIFTANN). There was nothing to try on in my size, but I thought this knit striped blazer was a nice nautical basic and not a bad price after the discount. They also had a floaty mint blouse that was very similar to one of my favorite old AT tops, as well as some striped drapey blouses that would be nice for spring.

You looked awesome in that dress for the holiday party!!!
ReplyDeleteİ love sequins !!!
ReplyDeleteYou look amazing ;)
Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love the dress!! Wish I could find it amongst the disorganized racks in the downtown Zara in Montreal...it's always a mess! :(
ReplyDeleteamazing !
ReplyDeleteWooow, gorgeous dress! I really love the back of it! <3
ReplyDelete♥♥♥
Hey Jean! I love the dress! In fact, after seeing it on you, I bought it in both colors and plan to keep both. Jcrew also has you to thank for all the hundreds of dollars of clothing I bought from them after seeing your posts.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, how did you like the JBrand mustard coated jeans from HauteLook? Would you consider doing a post reviewing that? I ordered it after you wrote about it. Loved the look but it was bunchy in the back right under the butt. I'm wondering if you had the same issue with those jeans?
Hi there - I'm so glad you like the dress! Which J.Crew items did you pick up?
DeleteI haven't received my jeans yet since I left for the holidays before it arrived. That's disappointing about the butt bunching, but I've learned that jeans (even brands that have worked in the past) tend to be hit or miss with each style and material...sigh!
Schoolboy Blazer in two colors. Hacking Blazer in four colors. Slim trench in Cobalt Blue. I'm waiting for another discount to appear so that I can purchase the schoolboy blazer you've been wearing in caramel. I tried to buy the Burberry wool/cashmere trench you tried on but it wasn't available in my size in the color I wanted. Ouch! Hurts so good. Why must everything look so good on you? Why?!
Deleteomg so glad i stumbled upon ur blog. you are a gem!
ReplyDeletelove your sytle-following you! hope you stop by and follow my blog as well :)
cheers,

Did you guys have lechon at Nick's? Haha.
ReplyDeleteHaha not so lucky this time, but we did gorge on it in the Philippines earlier this year : )
DeleteThat is a gorgeous dress and love the clutch!
ReplyDeleteYou look so pretty!! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas! I love the dress!
ReplyDeleteYou look gorgeous and so festive! May I ask who made your heels? (Are they YSL?) I love them!
ReplyDeleteYes, and thank you : ) Hope wedding dress shopping is going well!
DeleteThe sequin dress is so perfect for the holiday and NYE parties. Glad you had a wonderful Christmas with your family!

You look divine! I wish I had someplace that required a fancy dress like this. Thanks to your DIY tips I was able to score a cute silver tank top and alter it myself. (I brought a wrap but it was 70 degrees here so even I didn't need it).
ReplyDeleteSo happy to read that you were enjoying some delicious Filipino food. I grew up in SF and most of my friends were either Filipino or Chinese (or both). Nothing beat home made lumpia or cha sui boa from someone's mom. Best. Food. Ever. Luckily, my own mom was no slouch in the Indian food department so I could reciprocate.
Can't wait to see what 2013 has in store for you and your blog. My NY resolution is not to buy anything until everything I currently own fits well.
Thanks so much, Janki - I always enjoy reading your anecdotes. Happy new year & I love the resolution.
DeleteHi Jean, I was wondering if you have this problem with H&M spotted/dalmatian pants. I washed mine prior to wearing, and the black transferred to the cream. It doesn't look obvious when worn but still sad :<
ReplyDeleteAlso for the bra back converter, it maaaay be doable to just cut the under band of your old bra and attach it like a converter. Perhaps won't give enough support but it might be an alternative for those who are hopeless with sewing (like me).
Hi Steffi, I'm sorry to hear that! I washed mine in cold water and didn't have that problem (yet). I'll have to be more careful now with your warning!
Deletejean, you look lovely in that dress. thanks for all the wonderful tips and inspirations you've given us. happy holidays!
ReplyDeleteHappy holidays to you too, Lin - thanks for following along all this year!
DeleteHi Jean!
ReplyDeletePlease keep an eye out for the Ann Taylor Factory Ruffle Front Shells that come out every year!
I am hoping to stock up this year!!
If the timing holds true to previous years, it should be around springtime in 2013 : )
DeleteLovely post. That tree is beautiful. Glad you had a good Christmas.

You look so lovely in the dress, Jean! Good thing you went with the small.. you can eat to your heart's content without feeling the literal pinch of a tight dress. Love the low back -- sexy, without being too revealing.

Hi Jean, I'm on the quest to find the perfect Burberry Pea Coat. I love your reviews and segments on your Burberry pieces; they have helped me tremendously in narrowing down what style I want for my size (5'2" 120lbs). Have you had much success at the Burberry Wrentham Outlet? I'm planning to hit up Bloomingdales first but wanted to see if the drive is warranted to trek even further south to Wrentham. I'm planning on altering the length to be shorter, but not sure yet. Thank you for having such a great blog, I work in Finance too and your tips for the workplace have been so helpful, especially for someone as discerning as I am :)
ReplyDeleteHi Andrea - Thank you for your kind comments! I don't recommend getting Burberry from the outlets because they're usually seasonal styles on small discounts, plus you are in the "sale" mindset and might settle for subpar choices. Personally, I've bought 2 items from the outlet many years ago and regretted it, yet still love the ones I bought from the retail store. Right now Burberry is having 50% off certain styles on their website and in stores (you can call the closest locations - Boston Newbury is great, ask for John!) to try them on in-person. Also, places like Sakes, Bloomingdales, etc have discounts like 20% off throughout the fall/winter and you can sometimes use them on classic Burberry styles. Good luck!
DeleteThat dress is spectacular on you! Hope you had a very Merry Christmas and are enjoying your time in SD :) Also wishing you a very Happy New Year!

ReplyDeleteI love your blog, happy holidays! :) I was just wondering if you had an advice for a petite gal who can't wear heels on a regular basis (I have an active job and back issues)? Is there anything I should be aware of fashion-wise if I'm in ballet flats quite a bit? Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteHi Peony, ballet flats actually have terrible to no support (if you really mean ballet flats), so I'd suggest looking for something with some arch support if you have back issues and move actively on your feet. Cole Haan had some with Nike air support, although the companies broke up so I don't know if they have that many any more. Really low wedges can also be comfortable yet still fashionable. As for things to be "aware" of - I can't think of much off the top of my head except the obvious, to make sure pants are at the right length for flat shoes : )
Deletevery beautiful and bold dress. you look great!

Hi Jean;
ReplyDeleteHappy Holidays! That dress looks amazing on you. It shows your figure very well!
Enjoy!!
This is not relevant to this post but I have to thank you for suggesting shopping in the kids section to find better priced and items that fit our petite size. I went shopping at Zara and looked at the women's down feather long length jacket, even with discount=159, but I found a kid version size 13-14 and it fit perfectly for only 49.99!
ReplyDeleteSo glad I started following your blog!
So glad to hear! There aren't too many gems from the kids dept for grown women, but it sure feels great to find one that fits better and is more affordable, too.
DeleteHi Jean,
ReplyDeleteHappy new year! You look great in this dress~
Hi Jean Happy holidays! Love that there is a bit of "pinoy in you :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful outfit Jean. The dress is perfect for the holiday season and looks so lovely on you. Happy new year! x

Gorgeous dress, your figure looks amazing in it! Love the second picture especially.
ReplyDeleteYou look amazing! Love that dress on you! The converted bra is ingenious too! Happy Holidays!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful dress! Look great on you! Btw, on ur blog u mentioned about a Ann taylor sale with 50% off which I missed out. I really like the items that u've picked out! Pretty pricey when they r not on sale. Do u know when will they have another 50% off? Around what time of the year? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYour blog has inspired me to change my style. You mentioned Filipino fare and I'm wondering if you and Nick are from the Philippines?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Dress! I've looked at your other photos and you have a great fashion sense.
ReplyDeletei like your bling party dress, it is so glamour.
