H&M blouse, sz 2, $9.95, also in taupe w/ black. Item # 081425 in the everyday holiday collection.
After a full lap around H&M, the only thing that caught my eye was this chic blouse. I have been wanting a classic white with black trim blouse for a long time. My friend has a silk one from J.Crew and it's gorgeous, but I'd be paranoid about splotching something on the front. At the price of $9.95 - this one probably fits me better, and can be worn carelessly : )
More photos...

Although I love the style of this blouse, let me warn you that it is not high quality (yet still comparable to some of H&M's $20+ blouses). Material is 100% polyester, thin, sheer (wear an undertank or a nude-colored bra), and I saw one shirt where the edge was frayed. The material may cause hair static, but I always carry a dryer sheet with me during winter months to keep hair tame. For $9.95, though - I am more than pleased and will get sufficient wear out of this blouse, after steaming it.
Tip: If you're looking for something specific in your size at H&M, there's no need to waste time and visit several stores hunting. Call your local stores right when they open, when associates have more time and the merchandise is neatly organized. Give them the department, a description, and the 6 digit item number (the first 6 digits, found under the upper barcode on the price tag), and they are usually happy to help do an item check and put it on hold for 24 hours, if found.
Fit of a sz 2 on me is drapey but not too loose. The sleeves are long on me as H&M does not offer petite sizing, but I plan on pushing them up my forearm anyways. In the first photo, the pockets may look gigantic and placed on a distracting location, however from farther away the pocket lines blend into the blouse more and do not stand out as much.
Measurements: 14" across the shoulders & waist, 17" across armpit, 23" total length, 23" sleeve length.
Colors: Comes in a crisp white with black, and also a light grayish-taupe (bottom right) with black. I tried to capture the difference but it barely came out on my iPhone.
And a fun part about this blouse? 5% of the retail price goes to unicef for children. Click tags to enlarge:
Readers - Did anyone else buy this blouse? How will you be styling it?

They should hire you to style their clothes, because it looks super cute and chic on you, but awful on their model!
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure Robin wore that shirt on How I Met Your Mother the other week :) She wore it with red pants haha
ReplyDeleteMaybe Robin's had a collar. Anyway, it was similar!
ReplyDeleteLooks nice. And good price too.

I can't believe you were able to find this blouse...i looked in at least 5 H&M stores, and they were ALL sold out!
ReplyDeleteI was in H&M yesterday and tried to find this shirt. I was unsuccessful bit will press onward. It's a really classic style and the price is right
ReplyDeleteThat's always the problem with H&M pieces...photographs beautifully to full the eye, but wears (and feels) terrible...you're so right though...sheer poly is like heaven for static cling! Best to save the $$$ for a silky number similar in style. Love that contrasting band...a total staple piece so I'll definitely hold out before another $10 goes down the drain!
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the helpful info!

Peace. Love. LOL!

I agree with daisy351...I would not have considered the blouse had I originally seen it on the model; however, you made it look magnificent!
ReplyDeleteThe shirt looks great on you! You need to text me every time you shop at H&M! Your finds are so spot-on!
ReplyDeletehow do you find the the 6 digit item number? o.O
ReplyDeleteWhat a great $10 find!! I love where the sleeves hit.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip - I'll be sure to stop by my friendly neighborhood H&M to try this blouse out.
ReplyDeleteThe blouse looks so chic! And it's only $10?! It's definitely a great deal.
ReplyDeleteI love this blouse! I don't really mind lower quality clothing because honestly I rarely wear something longer than a few months :D Great cause too!

Saw this blouse and wanted it but it was NOT 9.95 :/

LOVE IT!
As usual, I'll be styling mine in a more casual way. Will definitely pull on a pencil skirt + that if need be. I don't think I noticed the taupe one when I got mine. I just loved the contrast in this one. Was shocked at the price! Weird though.. it was $9.95 in CAD too! You guys usually have the lower number..
ReplyDeleteHow funny, I just bought this today! I love it!
ReplyDeleteSuper cute!! I'm so sad H&M doesn't allow US shoppers to order online. I don't have a store nearby either!
ReplyDeleteLove the whole ensemble though. :)
You look fab in this! When I went to H&M last week, I was kinda disappointed. I wish I could follow you around and pick up some tips! Thanks for the dryer sheet tip, I wore a charmeuse blouse today and my hair was being a staticky mess.
ReplyDeleteThe blouse looks nice on you :D
ReplyDeleteThis is a great find. Thank you for the heads up! :) The blouse looks uber chic on you!
ReplyDeleteJean- great alternative to the ann taylor one from a few months ago! patience is key, yes?
ReplyDeletewow! I didn't know about this, but it looks great. and great price : )
ReplyDeletewhat a steal!! looks great on you. i'll definitely check out h&m and see if they have this at my store and in my size.
ReplyDeleteThe blouse is sharp. Quality aside, for $9.95 it's pretty tough to go wrong.

thanks for the tip, jean! i just finished calling and they have my size on hold!
ReplyDeleteI wanted to buy this last week but they only had a 4 left :(
ReplyDeleteI now really want this blouse. I was quite surprised when I saw the screenshot from the website because it didn't catch my eye at all, but how you wore and styled it, the blouse looks 100% more appealing. Looks like I have a lot to learn about style from you! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Jean! I recently bought this H&M shirt and was wondering what other ways are you able to wear it without a black pencil skirt?
ReplyDelete@Anonymous The possibilities are endless! Looks great with a colored skirt (I wore it last week with my red skirt and will also wear with a cobalt blue skirt) and also looks great with pants. I wore it yesterday afternoon over dark jeans with just the front slightly tucked in. I imagine it will also look nice with slacks...black, camel, and various fun colors as well.
ReplyDeleteHi Jean,
ReplyDeleteYou style everything so well (and it seems everything looks great on you)! Question--isn't the top is see through? What color blouse are you wearing underneath? And I know this should be simple, but where do you typically buy your tanks from? I find that the H&M ones in the XS/S/ etc sizing are usually too large for me. Thanks for your blog! I always look forward to seeing your outfits.
@Vanessa Hi Vanessa! Yes, this top is quite sheer. I buy my tanks from H&M, but they're not the best (tend to have dangly threads and unraveling hems after a wash). I'll have to start looking into other brands of under tanks, maybe Gap body or something of the sort. I wore this top with just a nude-colored bra. I have tons of bras in this color, and it just makes getting dressed easier b/c I never have to worry about a bra showing through.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip! I went out and bought this blouse over the weekend--still can't believe it was only ten bucks! What a steal :D
ReplyDeleteWhat brand in nude-colored bras do you recommend? I feel like Victoria Secret adds too much padding. Thanks!
Wow, I didn't think I could do it with just a nude bra. Thank you! (I noticed the same thing about one of my H&M tanks--it's in pretty bad shape now).
ReplyDeleteWhy do you have to steam it? Sorry, I feel a little stupid, too.
ReplyDeleteHi Jean,
ReplyDeleteSince your post, I have been trying to locate a similar top. What do you think of this? I would appreciate your opinion.
