Jeans: Old Navy Rockstar Jegging in Russet Brown, sz 0 Reg (7 other colors in reg, petite & tall)
Shirt: Gap Boys Gingham Shirt in kids S (warning: boxy fit, more pics coming soon)
Cardigan: Gap (old) Necklace: Nordstrom Rack Watch: Michael Kors Crossbody: Chanel WOC
Thank you Wendy for introducing us to the affordable Old Navy jeggings. These retail for $35 and can probably be scored on sale sooner or later. I originally ordered white in 0P, but fell in love with this rich, versatile color (I would've named this "redwood"). This color currently does not come in petite or tall lengths. I suggest ordering one size up from your typical legging jean size. I usually take a 00/24 but a 0 in these fit me with no waist gap.
The 98% cotton, 2% spandex feels stiffer and more paper-like than my beloved old Gap legging jeans from 2010. Although the front looks great, the fit from the back on me leaves something to be desired. The pockets are large and don't bend with the curve of my butt (compare to the fitted back view here). There is extra bagginess under the butt and behind the knees. Despite these issues, I bought them because I loved the color, and I hope the material will become softer after some wear & wash. Measurements of a 0 Regular: 12.5" across waist, 16.25" across hips, 29" inseam, and 4.5" across bottom leg opening.
Another acquisition this month is this super versatile large gingham shirt. I got it for $15 and have been wearing it with everything both to work and casually. Please note that the fit is boyish and boxy, so I am not recommending it to fellow ladies as a shirt that "fits well." I will show more photos of the shirt by itself soon as well as some styling ideas. Kelly pointed out a women's alternative at H&M for $20, available in 3 colors.
Measurements of a Boys sz S / 6-7 gingham shirt: 14" across shoulders, 17" across armpits, 22.5" length, 16" sleeve length, and 3.75" across the sleeve opening.
Measurements of a Boys sz S / 6-7 gingham shirt: 14" across shoulders, 17" across armpits, 22.5" length, 16" sleeve length, and 3.75" across the sleeve opening.
Trying on: J.Crew Honeycomb Cable Sweater in XXS ($40 something) & random mustard cardigan
Lastly, my Coldwater Creek $10 chambray shirts arrived and the fit gave me a good chuckle. I apologize to anyone who is my size that ordered it, but I did give fair warning that I had no idea how their sizes run. The quality is fair for $10 but the matronly cut (what a sleeve!) is not what I'm looking for. These will be returned, but I just noticed Old Navy added a red to their chambray shirts which I am excited to try.

Ooooo I got the J. Crew Honeycomb cable sweater too (in grey tho) and I adore it! It looks lovely on you :) Hope you're having a fabulous holiday!

I just did a review on the grey & white pairs and found that the grey pair was a lot more fitted than the white. I loved the russet brown, but couldn't find a size 0 in store.
ReplyDeleteThe red chambray is so pretty! The price wasn't that great when I saw the blue version in store, but I can't wait to see how it fits you :D
Hope your holiday was great! : )
I love the J. Crew sweater! Also those jeggings are a great color like you said.
ReplyDeleteWait...what are the boots that you have on in the pic with the jcrew sweater? I am desperately searching for flat boots that fit my skinny calves...
ReplyDeleteHappy holidays Jean! Where did you find that mustard cardigan? I have been looking for one!
ReplyDeleteI had the CC chambray shirt in my shopping cart when my 15 year old daughter walked by, looked at my screen, and said, incredulously, "You're buying a CHAMBRAY SHIRT from COLDWATER CREEK???" This snapped me back to reality and I realized it was a bad idea!
ReplyDeleteJean! You have to check out PacSun (I'm sorry for the strange shout of your name in text, by the way), they're having a buy one get one free sale on a majority of their sale items and I couldn't believe the deals I found. Even though their smallest is an extra small, I still think your petite size will fit fairly well. I don't know if they have a PacSun in the East Coast as I am from San Diego, but they also have their online website. I know their clothing is aimed more toward a younger crowd but with the fashionista you are I'm certain you can pull together some chic outfits from there, I like to think I did! You've also inspired me to post more outfits on my blog, so I'm about to make a post right now :) Happy Holidays dear! <3 And of course, happy shopping ;)
ReplyDeleteLOL that last shirt is hilarious! I saw everyone's tweets on the ON jeggings. I don't need anymore casual pants or I may have jumped on this too. The only thing with ON jeans I find is that they lose their shape after only a little while. I really love that J.Crew sweater on you!
ReplyDeleteI am loving the Honeycomb cable knit sweater, preppy and feminine, I want!!!!
ReplyDeleteoh i love that gap shirt! you must be tiny, jean..i just realized that i wear a boys' large at gap kids! :P hehe. hope you had a lovely christmas/holiday!
ReplyDeleteHa ha! I bought the CC chambray shirt hoping for the best! After all, it was such a good deal. I returned it the next day! No need to apologize - after all, there was the free shipping and store returns.
ReplyDeleteOooh! Love that gingham shirt… just added that to my basket! No crazy finds to report…yet….
ReplyDeleteGirl in the Poodle Shoes
Hi, Jean! I bought the ON jeggings a few days ago, but had to return them for larger size. Must be all the holiday eating! :) They were pretty snug on me; I usually order a size 4--sometimes 6, in regular jeans, but I wanted to be able to breathe--got size 8 instead and it fits fine. It's a beautiful color!
ReplyDeleteLove the gingham shirt. I've been looking for one in that color for a month or so. I'll have to check out the Gap Kids by my house. They were picked clean today by my friend's house. :(
Thanks for the tip!
--Sue
jean-- guess what i did tonight, i made my own shabu!! hahha, im that obsessed about it!
ReplyDeleteanyway, u know i love the jeans on you despite the sagginess. i think if you threw it in the dryer a few times, i think it will shrink up a bit and that problem will go away! i like the gingham too. its really cute. does it come in any other color?
I just picked up the ON Jeggings in that same color today. I was disappointed not to find any of the sweaters Sydney reviewed but the jeans were a good find. I love that JCrew sweater on you.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately those ON jeans weren't on sale in my local store. So sad because I ran out to buy them as soon as you said they were only 15 bucks because I've been eyeing them for a while.
ReplyDeletejean, that last pic is hilarious. i love your expression. lol. ;)
ReplyDeletethe jcrew honeycomb sweater looks great on you, especially with those boots. i have been trying to find similar boots to yours....and am still searching....
Oooh, great pants! I always forget about Old Navy; I did pick up a pair of their bright cobalt blue jeggings a few months ago and wear them often, so I'm happy to see that they're putting out some new colors!
ReplyDeletethose two outfits in the middle are soooooo adorable!

Definitely wait for mark downs. I got mine for $25. I think the 0P might fit you better. I don't think the waist is smaller than the 0R but the leg openings are tighter. I washed mine already and it didn't shrink much.
ReplyDeleteThat gingham looks cute on you! And I love that "redwood" on you, too!
ReplyDeleteHope you had a nice Christmas! :)
i love the whole look! i especially love the jeggings and cardigan. the combination is just perfect! :D

I'm not petite, but will agree one pair of my ON skinnies do give that saggy butt look and yes, that's also not a look I'm going for. Grrr!
ReplyDeleteLike the gingham with the cream sweater! Very cute!
Jean, it was so lovely to meet you! Sorry if I was chatting so quickly and so much at once... I was a little star starstruck to say the least! Did you find any good bargains with your shopping trip? My aunt managed to find a Burberry jacket (a short quilted check from the Burberry London collection) that was marked 30% off the full retail price and as soon as we got back, I searched for your video on how to tie coat belts! I hope you had an enjoyable shopping trip and a fun holiday!
ReplyDeleteI love that red chambray shirt! And what a good idea, to shop the boys section...I've only thought to shop girls.
ReplyDeleteI stay away from ON jeans...I find they run VERY large and never quite fit me correctly.
-Sharon
I bought the ON jeggings in red for myself and my mom and we both love them. They are a bit shorter (we are both 5'5'') but I love that they don't bunch up around the ankles. The fit is very comfortable and they do stretch out just a tiny bit. I generally wear a size 0 or 2 and had to go up to a 4 for them to fit my bootie. Great fit and value, though!

Quick note: for some super-petite readers, hautelook has a sale on right now for a pair of boots (Lillybee "Pippa") that have a 10.5" shaft height and go down to size 6. Perhaps that's a large size, but I'm only a little taller than you are and I have size 7-8 feet depending on the shoe.... hahaha.
ReplyDeleteThey are selling at 50% off.
http://www.hautelook.com/short/1V2jH is my link, the link to the shoe sale is http://www.hautelook.com/product/2860805
sorry about the chambray shirt! it IS so matronly, the ON should be a much better fit.
ReplyDeletehopping on over to ON, i don't have any jeggings (gave them away) and need a few new ones without spending $100+ on each!
Very nice pants!!
ReplyDeleteThe Life After
Your face in the pic of you wearing the shirt is hilarious. I say, "You live and you learn. You order and you return." Quote me on that. ;-)
ReplyDelete@ Nikki- hi, does Hautelook have exclusive sales? I tried to access your link but it said the sale wasn't available to all members.
ReplyDelete:(
Ha! I bought that CC shirt because I wanted more to wear with white denim and wow what a cut. I just turned that puppy inside-out and unleashed my machine on it. It's still boxy and there is some puckering due to my hap-hazard stiching but all-in-all I think I can get some use out of it. On another note: aften I shrank and stitched I noticed a hole on the front of the shirt...damn!!!
ReplyDeleteON jeggings? Hmmm... will have to check it out. Love the gingham top on you with this outfit!

Hi Jean, I've been reading your blog for a few months now, and I just love your reviews. Just a quick question: have you ever tried on Delia's 0 Petite jeans and pants with either 28" or 30" inseam? We're similar in stature and their jeans/cords/twill pants fit me perfectly! I'm 22 years old and I still shop there even though their demographic is teenagers, but I have 4 pairs of their pants! If you have a Delia's nearby, I suggest you check them out!!

You look GREAT! I'm going to see about those jeggings, too!
ReplyDeleteYou are so glamorous in any outfit! I love the sweaters and the gingham. You are so cute, well - beautiful, and petite, but I think you might be able to find better fitting jeggings. They look great in the front, but the back is just too big for your cute shape. I know you don't like things that are too fitted, but have you tried the Hue corduroy leggings? If you have not - omg...you must go and inspect them! I live in the South and found mine at Dillards, but I think they sell them at Nordstroms and other higher end department stores. I have bought them in 16 colors already! They aren't the usual tights that Hue puts out; they are truly jeggings - complete with back pockets. They are truly amazing - especially for us petite girls. I'm 5'0 and weigh 85 lbs. The XS Hue corduroys fit me perfectly and wash up amazing. You will LOVE the price too! They go on sale all the time for $28.50. I get always get compliments on them. I do love your Old Navy jeggings you have photo'ed here, but you must try the Hues! I purchased mine both at Dillards and on the Hue dot com website :) Merry Christmas! Keep the blog posts coming! I love coming here! It's my new favorite spot to visit! :)
ReplyDeleteLisanne
Yeah, Coldwater Creek is a store for middle-aged women.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Here's a link to Hue's Facebook page where you can see the leggings I'm talking about. I love them! You can dress them up or down - wear them with heels, flip flops, boots or even flats and a cardigan to make a preppy oufit. Great for us sweet petites :)

Cheers!

I am really into this honeycome sweater! What a great pattern. diggin' the hunter green "pine bough" color.
ReplyDeleteI found a navy gingham shirt in the Men's section at H&M for $29.95 http://www.hm.com/us/product/94941?article=94941-D
ReplyDeleteI'm 5'4" and 125 pounds and bought a Small (the store associate told me that XS exists but I didn't see one at my H&M). It's definitely boxy, but I'm planning on wearing it like a boyfriend shirt or under sweaters and cardigans.
Jean, you make any outfit so classy. I tried on a similar gingham shirt at J. Crew and I felt like a boy! It didn't help that I was wearing cargo skinnies and desert boots that day. Can't wait to see how you glamorize it.
ReplyDeleteLOL at the Coldwater Creek blouse, it did look boxy from the website, and just hearing the store's name conjures up images of matronly clothes. ;)
BTW, I have the ON jeggings in black and red, and had to size up for both. I have hips and a booty and a size 6 so I had to get a 10 in the black and 12 in the red! The length is perfect for my height (5'4-5'5). The red and redwood one are stiffer, but the red has softened up with wear and is comfortable. The black is suuuper soft and so comfy that I find myself reaching for it often! I have to go back and get it in "regular" denim washes - have you tried those in? How does the fit compare to Gap always skinny pants?
ReplyDeleteJean- I think that the pants from Old Navy look fantastic but what is your thought about their quality? I've always found that clothes from Old Navy don't last that long between seasons and they don't look the same after a couple of washes. I haven't shopped there in awhile but I was wondering if their quality has gotten any better?
ReplyDelete@Liz Hi Liz, unfortunately the boots are no-name shoes from eBay. I find that boots from the past tend to run skinnier in the calves compared to what's out on the market today. I just bought Cole Haan boots really similar to this pair though - http://www.colehaan.com/colehaan/catalog/product.jsp?catId=100&productId=425889&productGroup=425888 The stretch backing made it fit small calves better, however the shaft height is still pretty tall.
ReplyDelete@girly girl The first chunky cardigan-jacket is old from Gap, and the second slimmer one is current, from J.Crew.
@Caroline Thanks for the recommendation, Caroline! We do have lots of PacSUn on the east coast. I have tried on their jeans which fit really small at a great value. My only issue was with their back pocket designs.
@Anonymous Sue - it's not just holiday eating : ) They do run very small. Please keep expectations low about the Gap gingham, and hopefully we'll find similar options soon for "women" and not little kids.]
@Ping Currently no other colors at Gap boys. What color are you looking for?
@Vanessa Totally my mistake! I was in ON and saw the entire wall of jeans for $15 and assumed the jeggings were included. Then, a fellow blogger Vicky tweeted that she got hers for $15. I think she just got lucky because others mentioned their stores did not have them marked down. I'm sorry it cost you a trip!
@Lien Hi Lien! You and your aunt (and I apologize - I kept on calling her your mom?) are so darling! It was a pleasure meeting both of you and I'm happy to hear you guys scored a jacket. I found some belated gifts for my family at Bloomingdales so it was a successful trip on my end as well : )
@Nikki Thanks for the tip, Nikki!
@BlitzAndGlam Very true. I hope I don't end up on any retailers' naughty list due to all my 'learn and return'in!
@Anonymous Oh, what a bummer! You know, their customer service is fantastic so I bet they will replace it if you said there is a hole already on the front. It'd just be an unfortunate waste of your DIY alterations.
ReplyDelete@Bernadette Thank you for the recommendation! I haven't checked out Delia's since high school but I know they have great bottom offerings in several lengths.
@Anonymous I'm very intrigued! Thank you for sharing. I know they make tights but had no idea they had jeggings, complete even with back pockets. Seeing your measurements make me wonder if they will be too snug on me. I'll have to check them out soon : )
@Anonymous I love the color and crisp look of that shirt. It's a shame you couldn't find an XS at the time - maybe check back? I saw H&M has some womens versions of that shirt but in a flannel material, not nearly as crisp looking.
@Jen (@CasualChicMom) I'm glad to hear your red ones softened up with wear! I got the black too (back at home) and suspected that the material was different with each wash. Now why wouldn't they make all colors as soft and comfy as the black? I don't know about the fit compared to Gap always skinny - I've only tried limited styles of the Gap legging jeans.
@Frugalista I don't think the quality is that great (noticeably worse than my Gap legging jeans) but I think each wash is made of a slightly different material. The comments from Jen @ CasualChicMom confirm that. She mentioned the black wash is super soft and comfy but the red was stiff (and I agree, mine feel stiff), so it looks like there is some inconsistency with quality. I'd say the quality is comparable to some H&M legging jeans I've tried on lately.
Hey Jean, I bought the Coldwater Creek chambray shirt in black and the fit was only OK on me though I'm 5'8". It seems that their cut/style is too matronly for 20-something women :) I'll keep mine but I'm sorry for the suburban housewife look.
ReplyDeleteOh, sorry, I think I'm a little confusing... The woman you met in JCrew was my mom and we met up with my aunts later at Bloomingdales (which I should add btw, were totally bummed they didn't get a chance to meet you!). I hope you had an enjoyable stay and hopefully we will have a chance to see each other again in the future!
ReplyDeleteYour blog made me check out ON's website after not visiting for months. I was shocked at how many cute styles they have now (and then bummed that they were often sold out in the XS Petite size in the best colors). I spent more than I ever have at that brand and can't wait to try some of their dresses and blouses on in person. Thank you! I also finally scored a pair of the green cord pants from J crew in the kids sizing on sale. If only someone will return those dresses I was eying on Shopbop...
ReplyDeleteRalph Lauren dot com has a big sale going on right now - 30% off of already marked down stuff. I checked out the Lauren Petite section and saw a couple of cute shirts and jackets. I haven't tried Lauren petites for some time because for awhile there - I just wasn't digging the fit, however they have some nice things and I have placed a couple of things in my shopping basket. I'll try to remember to let you know how the fit and quality is once my order arrives :)
ReplyDeleteLisanne
i think i want a fun pink or orange color...not 100% sure. gotta try them on first ;)
ReplyDeleteAfter seeing this post, I went to Old Navy to try the jegging on. My measurements are slightly larger than yours (waist=25, hip=33.5) so I didn't bother trying on the 0R. I ended up purchasing the 2R, which fits well in the waist but not so much in the thigh area.
ReplyDeleteBut just wanted to say thanks for blogging about this because I honestly would never have tried on the Russet Brown. I'm only wear black and dark blue washes. But since it looked so great on you, I decided to check it out.
Cute outfit with the yellow, gingham, and red jeggings! I love that color too! Omg I totally ordered that Coldwater Creek chambray and did a review on my blog...way too big! Lol
ReplyDeleteIf anyone has the ON Rockstar Jegging in size petite 2, Russet Brown (same color that Jean's wearing) that they would be willing to part with, I would be more than happy to purchase! Please email me at thepetitediary(at)gmail(dot)com if you do happen to have a pair, thank you :)
ReplyDeletei'm desperate to find a cute affordable gingham shirt! the only thing about boy's shirt is the sleeve. How's S fit for you?
ReplyDeleteCheck out the treggings at espirit. I stumbled upon them in the store today. They're a great fit and super comfortable!
ReplyDeleteI love this outfit!
ReplyDeleteHi Jean! I bought the ON chambray shirt, and I love it! I got it in dark chambray because I wanted a classic color first, but I tried on the red and it was a great color as well. It's a cuter cut than the CC one for sure. Thank you for the recommendation!
ReplyDeleteHaha! Never mind then, I guess you already know about these old navy rock star jeans and pants ;)
ReplyDelete
