On Hautelook: The elusive Adrienne Vittadini Adam Booties

*Update: try 25OFF50HL for $25 off $50. Thank you, MamaTamTam for sharing with us! I also wanted to mention I own the Sonnet suede bow booties from last year, in 5.5. They are comfier to walk around in because of the lower 3" heel and look nice w/ black tights, but unfortunately I have no pics.*

We often hear that petite women shouldn't wear ankle-length boots. I like the look too much to abide by this rule, and if you're truly worried about it, then pair booties with similar-colored tights to streamline your legs. For sz 6 to 10 ladies who want a classic bootie, my favorite Adrienne Vittadini "Adam" boots from last year will be on Hautelook (invite link) 11/4/11 starting 11am EST / 8am PST. You have to be quick. In a preview, I saw black and cognac leather, starting in sz 6 for $70. You can see examples of black suede on me here, here and here.
These are sturdily made in real leather, with a partial rubber sole and 4" heel. Order your true size to get the best fit, and wear with thin socks. I originally got a 5.5, which felt snug with gym socks on, so (and I'll never forgive myself) I traded them for a 6. Now they're loose around my ankles, but I haven't seen a smaller size ever again.

I love and wear my black ones so much, I posted an item request for the rich cognac color long after they sold out. Six months later, my blog friend Cee with an impeccable memory alerted me that a cognac 6 was on Amazon. Thank you, Cee! I grabbed them for $70 and fell in love with the color - a true chestnut brown. The brown does not truncate bare legs, and will be a great Fall / Spring bootie. Please let me know if you guys ever see a 5.5 : )

Also today only (ends 11/4 at 5PM PST), use code BONUS15 to get 15% off full-priced items at ASOS. Shipping and return shipping is free. The two coats above do not qualify because they are on sale, but I ordered the cream one anyway to scope out the quality. ASOS petite sizing runs small - a US Petite 0 or 1 is sometimes snugger than 00P's from other brands.

On an unrelated note, I believe that comments are a forum for open discussion, but I will moderate those that are not in the spirit of a constructive environment. Comments that put fellow women down for factors that they cannot control are removed. I will say that I was moved to tears by the outpouring of support surrounding the topic. It's something that has weighed heavily on me for a long time, and I was touched by the encouragement and support received.

  1. The cognac ones are too pretty! Jean, would you consider putting together some outfits using your black ones? I just bought a pair of black ankle boots, and I'm trying to think of new ways to wear them.

  2. @Phoebe Hi Phoebe - I wear my black ones a lot and linked to three posts where they are worn with black tights, blue jeans, and also bare legs.

  3. Thank you for your amazing blog Jean :) I just started as a freshman in college and your blog has helped me gain more confidence both inside and out. Finding well-fitting, quality clothes (but still being thrifty) has made a significant difference in how I feel. I have a lot of respect for you!

  4. You are so sweet to do these types of posts - I always think they are so helpful and informative. I'd totally be interested in the cognac ones but just got a kind of similar pair from Zara..

BTW - I wore AV brand shoes for the first time to my prom and they were really comfortable! I think they're a great quality brand for the price.

*hugs* for the last part of your post!

  5. jean, thanks for letting us know of this. i"ve been admiring those suede booties of yours. i'll have to check this out.

i've always thought you had great personal style and you have a good sense of how to put things or what works well together. even though i'm not petite, i still look at you to get inspiration. keep up the great work and don't let others discourage you. ;)

  6. I love those boots! I prefer the black over cognac, but that is just because I'm biased. I feel like those would do wonders for a petite girl's legs when paired with skinny jeans that fall at the ankle, or even with tights of the same color, just like you said.

    xx maggie

  7. I just got my first pair of booties and I'm loving them! I wear them with skinny jeans, though, and not with skirts. Not ready for that look yet..

  8. I've been searching for the perfect pair of ankle booties...not too high of a heel, no huge platform, almond toe, and with a curvy cut around the ankle. These are gorgeous, but alas I am a size 5. Thanks for including your comments on fit, as I surely would have shelled out for these boots on the chance that they might fit small enough!

  9. @Anonymous not sure why my comment is anonymous, oops!

  10. I am a huge fan of booties right now! I better get me some in the browns... (have a ton of booties, but don't have one in a rich brown color). I love how it's named after my son!

  11. Good for you about the comments. I think that's one of the worst things about becoming a popular blog - SO many horrible things get said and it really detracts from the content and community. I totally agree that people should just STFU (for lack of a better term) about things people can't control. Fat/skinny/tall/short/black/white - what does it really matter? People are so concerned with nitpicking and criticizing others! Never understood that at all.

  12. Hi Jean,
Absolutely love your blog (read from the first entry to the last)! I never knew how ill fitting clothes my clothes are till i read this blog. That said, i would love to build up on better fitting clothes.

I fit ASOS petite US Petite 0 or 1, but do find Ann Taylor's 00P big. Which other brands' sizing is comparable to ASOS? Thanks.

About all the recent nastiness..You'll always have my support!=)

  13. Jean, please let your readers know that they can use the following code: 25OFF50HL to get an additional $25 off (you have to purchase at least $50, doesn't include shipping). The code is good through 11/13 if you aren't lucky enough to score the booties or you see something else that you are coveting.

As for the comment moderation, I didn't comment on that post but I wholeheartedly agree with you and you have my support 150%. I think you handled it great and you are a class act.

  14. Oh my god, I want to get some---they are so classic and chic! I just followed the invite link (thank you Jean) but am new to Hautelook and couldn't find the booties! Is it possible they have already sold out? if it starts today at 11am set (it is merely 930 am currently) would the sale not be posted as yet? Eep! help!

    thanks

  15. My first thought about ankle boots was "NOT FOR ME." My legs are super short, plus I have these huge calves and adding a shoe that would cut me off at the ankle was the last thing I wanted to do. But, one day, I decided to try them on JUST to see. I ended up loving them and although I didn't buy the first pair I tried that sold me on ankle boots, I realized that it's all about finding the right pair and styling it correctly. I now have several pairs and I love them all. I love the versatility of being able to wear them with jeans, slim pants, dresses and skirts.

Jean, you have a fabulous blog, I'd love to say I'm your biggest fan, but clearly, you have many. I've always found your tips and reviews to be extremely helpful and of course, your style impeccable. I will pretty much buy any product you endorse. (Belt loop, leather puncher and Asian bumpit in my arsenal now.) Lol. You have such a grace about you in the way you dress and write. It's hard to comment on the intention of other bloggers, but you obviously have a ton of supporters (even if they choose to be anon).

    ReplyDelete
  16. blogger...WHY WON'T YOU LET ME COMMENT.

If this one makes it, Jean, can you comment on the comfort of these booties? Also can't decide if I should go with black leather or brown leather...it would be excessive to get both...decisions decisions! Thanks for the heads up, if this works out I owe you big time! :)

  17. Hi Jean! I've been following you for a while but this is my first comment. Love your blog.

I noticed this skirt on sale at jcrew, just wanted to share it with you because you might like it. Although I'm wondering, at $99 if it might be worth waiting for a bigger discount... http://www.jcrew.com/womens_special_sizes/petite/skirts/PRDOVR~51473/99102484105/ENE~1+2+3+22+4294967294+20~~~20+17+214~15~~~~~~~/51473.jsp

  18. Yay!! I have been coveting your booties for so long and I just got a pair of the black leather on Hautelook. VICTORY! I was sad though...the Cognac wasn't even available to purchase. Why do they use it in the promos and then not have it available at all? Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  19. OMG! The code worked on Hautelook! Definitely picking up the black suede booties! Thanks, Jean!

  20. Thank You Jean for sharing the code for Asos!!
I have been eyeing the double breasted trench coat. I can't skip this deal and thank you again for sharing!

  21. I've been reading your blog for a while now and have shared it with many friends (petite or otherwise). I'm not petite, so I don't follow many other petite bloggers and had never even heard of this other website. I clicked over after reading other comments and was pretty shocked at how blatant she was in copying your work. Obviously I will not be following her, as she doesn't have the same conversationalist tone of your writing nor will I support stealing other people's work. Amazing how some people have no shame.

Anyway, I love your style and your attitude and just wanted to put a word of support in for you! Thanks for sharing (a little bit of) your life with us! :)

  24. Ooohh those booties and cute and wow to Cee for remembering! Glad you were able to find them.

Jean, you never cease to amaze me, you're very classy and I have so much admiration for you. Ahhh I think back to my first foray into blogging it was entering one of your photo contests with a terrible picture of myself with my head cut off LOL!!

You have always been there to support me and you know I'm there for you too :) <3

  25. Love these ankle booties, I've always worn them even though I was told that they didn't look great on petites. The ones you've shared are beautiful but I have to admit are a little pricer than I would like to spend. They are gorgeous nonetheless and thanks as always for sharing.

  27. Hi Jean,

I saw your comments that it's not recommended that petite women shouldn't wear ankle length boots. Why is that? I am just curious, cause I was thinking of buying ankle booties. I always thought that petite women shouldn't wear knee high boots cause it will make us look shorter.

  28. You're the best, Jean. I've learned so much from you. I share your "How to Look Older" post with people all the time! Keep up the terrific work, and don't let the dumb stuff get you down. You are so loved by so many petite women who ask themselves "What would Jean wear this with?" every morning. Well, at least, that's what I ask myself. :-)

  31. 4" heel? I'm a little scared. I can barely walk in 2 3/4" heels. Anything higher and I am being tortured. I don't seem to know why but my ankles seem to lock and my entire feet tendons tighten up after wearing them too long. So sad. The booties are really beautiful.

  32. Jean, I just had my second baby and did not want to become a "frumpy" looking mommy. I have been following your blog before I went on bed rest with my second baby and all through a very long maternity leave. I have learned so much from you and have built up more confidence with my style thanks to many of your reviews and tips. I have never felt more stylish and have received a lot of compliments on my wardrobe (taking some of your pieces and reworking them!) now that I am back at work. You are an inspiration to many and I admire how graceful you remain despite the recent events. Keep up the amazing work and continue to inspire the uninspired with your talent (and style of course!).

  33. I can't believe people actually put negative comments on here! I haven't seen any myself but I definitely believe you. It's quite sad how people can do that. :(

Anyway, I've been wanting to try booties for a while but I've always been afraid of them making my legs look stumpy. But looking at your pics shows me otherwise! I'm definitely looking into them now... Thanks Jean!

  34. Thank you for a great blog - I recently started reading it and have enjoyed it a lot. You mentioned you live in Boston and I am very curious to see the outfits you put together for winter. I love this season but struggle a lot with what to wear. Please keep the blog running. It is fantastic.

  35. Joining in on the Jean love! Jean, this is super cheesy but your blog seriously changed my life. When I graduated from law school, I owned just one suit and piles of hoodies, jeans, and sneakers...a college kid's wardrobe, great for bumming around and not much else. I had no clue how to dress professionally without looking frumpy, especially when everything I tried on fit so horribly. I really resented having to spend so much of my time and money on a professional wardrobe that I thought would make me look boring and old. I used to love shopping as a fun and relaxing treat, but it became a dreaded chore.

Your blog really opened my eyes. I was so inspired by how you are able to put together outfits that are ultra polished and chic, but still fun and youthful. After absorbing page after page of your amazing style tips, I hit the mall and saw everything anew. I tried on things that I wouldn't have glanced twice at before, and loved how they looked on me. I've since rebuilt my work wardrobe and actually look forward to getting dressed for work. Your advice is so versatile, I've found it really easy to adapt your teachings to my own tastes and body shape. And I love your emphasis on affordable fashion!

So, thanks for your blog. I hope you'll keep it going for a long time!

  36. "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery." I wish you well Jean! And thank you for the tips on the booties. I do love suede! But unfortunately, I don't know if these are wide-feet friendly!

  37. Thank you so much everyone for your comments here, and for your words of encouragement. I don't always respond, but I read each comment and they mean a lot to me.

@Katherine How funny - the only place I ever see this brand is on sample sales and TJ Maxx/ Marshalls! I do have to agree I like the quality for the price.

@Anonymous / bluevalentine - I think Nordstrom online has the best selection of sz 5 (and below!) shoes and booties. It's a bit pricer but they have everyday free shipping and returns : )

@Anonymous Ah, unfortunately, H&M sz 2 is the only other brand I've tried on that fits as small as some of ASOS petite 0/1's. For work clothing, I buy mostly AT or Theory outlet (no good finds in a long time, though), but have to get things taken in. Sometimes Topshop petite 0 fits very small, but it's expensive for trendy fashion. Zara's juniors line, Trf, fits small too but not as small as Asos petite 0/1.

@MamaTamTam Thank you times 100! A lot of readers from Twitter / email also said to tell you thank you for sharing with us : )

@megan alissa design I'm so sorry for not getting back to you in time! With sample sale sites such as Hautelook, the items don't show up until the start time, sharp. I'm sorry for not explaining it better, and hope you were able to check out the sale in time!

@My Dressy Ways Agreed, Ying. As long as they don't come up too high, and if they are styled correctly, ankle boots can be so chic on petite ladies as well.

    ReplyDelete
  38. @Elle For 4 inch heels (I'm usually a 3.5" girl, rarely go over that) I found these fairly comfortable, but I never walk long distances in the Adam boots.

@Minnie Thank you for sharing! It's adorable. I just saw that only navy is left in my size, but I love the other vibrant colors. At $99, though, you are right - it's still steep for just a skirt.

@Silvey @Vanessa Ah, I have no idea why! I saw it in a preview too. False advertising : /

@Trami The theory behind that "fashion no-no" is that petite women already have short legs, so we should avoid anything that cuts off the leg line to make it appear even shorter. THis includes ankle strap shoes or ankle boots. I don't really abide by "petite fashion rules" - there's too many and most of them don't make sense to me. We should wear what we love and just be mindful of small things we can do to preserve a proportionate look (like wearing black tights with black ankle boots).

@Anonymous They are lovely. I had them on a previous leopard shoe hunt post but have never seen a size 5. I've heard great things about the comfort of Corso Como so I hope some sz 6+ ladies try that shoe.

Ladies at the end - thank you all so much. Virtual hugs!

  39. I just read the above comments, and I have to add to the love. Jean, you are a class act. I am just starting out as a business professional, and your style tips and lookbooks have really changed the way I perceive work clothing. I had never heard of Theory before this, and used to pull from ill-fitting BR suits (OOP runs so big!). I've been following you for a little over a year now, and have seen a lot of growth in your blog. Looking at posts even before that, I see even more change.

Thank you so much for enriching fashion for "normal" women! Your blog, more than any others, emphasizes practicality and wear-ability in every day life. Keep up the amazing work :)

  40. Jumping in with praise- you are one classy laday!! Love your blog and the wonderful content you provide, and I also love the articulate, respectful and, considerate way you reach out to your readers! Keep doing what you do.

And I'd also add that I love the recent hip, casual but pulled-together outfits you've been showing recently (the neon Gap dolman sweater, furry vest, your Barcelona style, etc), and would love to see that continue.

  41. Jean,

I have personally thought the same sentiment as all these anon bloggers have posted, but there is certainly no need for any harsh words. I follow many blogs, both petite and regular, but I always look forward to what you have to post, because I know it is something unique, creative, stylish and helpful. Thank you for all that you do, because I know that you have personally influenced my style and how I look at clothes from now on.

  44. @vnspinboxHi there - mine hasn't arrived yet! WHen it does, I'll be sure to do a review. There was a problem with my order and it got canceled, so I had to re-order this week : )

  45. I bought the ASOS doubled breasted coat in petite US 1 in mink and It's one of the few coats that fits PERFECTLY. The color looks more white in the photo, but it's definitely mink which is good because it won't get dirty as easily. Your blog has been so helpful with finding items I won't drown in. Thank you!!
