Gap is currently having 50% off sweaters online, and everyday free ship over $50. I went through ebates (referral) for 7% cash back. This is what I picked up:
Gap wool-blend cable sweater - 5 colors, $29.98
I had the above sweater in my cart during their meager BF 30% off sale, and am glad I waited for a better price. Gap often has great coupons and discounts in-stores, but by the time prices get that low online, petite sizing is often sold out.Gap Striped Cable Sweater - added to get free ship. Looks like something out of a Rugby catalog for less.
And although I've been trying to avoid kid sizes like the plague, I was tempted into trying this girls sweater in the gorgeous "Spiced Chartreuse" color. J.Crew is currently having 30% off and free ship on sweaters, plus 4% cash back through ebates. Will this run short and wide? Maybe. I got a sz 14 to try for a casual fit.
J.Crew Girls Mohair Cable Popover - $34.95 and free ship
I haven't seen the above sweaters in person & can't attest to the quality. I'll do a review after they arrive : )

Speaking of Gap deals, I think Gap card holders should receive a coupon for 40% off in stores December 2 to December 4 + a 15% shopping pass (good for most of December), so card holders should look out for that in the mail. :)
ReplyDeleteI’ve tried on the second sweater in store last week (in XSR). The quality was nice, but the fit was pretty boxy. LOFT is running a promotion right now on their sweaters. Wondering if you’re interested in this one.
ReplyDeleteI saw that first sweater in stores just yesterday, and absolutely fell in love with the fit! Unfortunately, they didn't have the color I wanted (the teal), so I didn't buy. Can't wait to see your review.
ReplyDeleteI haven't shopped the Gap for myself in ages but 50% off sweaters is a deal worth checking out. The striped cable sweater is pretty cute.
ReplyDeletei love wearing jcrew boy now haha their shirt is so cute. I also spotted a tons of jcrew like item on land's end canvas.
ReplyDeletehow would u wear them? i think you mentioned u don't wear pants to work often and cable sweaters seem too chunky for skirts
ReplyDeleteI have the gap striped sweater and love it! I also ordered the LOFT sweater that Sydney mentioned...should be arriving today, we'll see how that is :)
ReplyDeleteLOL the only thing I thought of was "those look itchy" :P
ReplyDeleteThe gap sale is tempting! I look forward to your review of the sweater quality : )
ReplyDeleteI recently purchased this J.Crew Fisherman's Sweater in beige:

I bought the XS in regular and it fits great! I'm 5'0 about 105 pounds. I can layer with a button down shirt underneath and it doesn't at all look bulky. On-line only has the Medium size but if you find it in a store, I'd highly recommend it!
I have 3 two-ply cashmere cable crewneck sweaters from Lord and Taylor in size XS and S (both can be worn over shirts but the S is a better option for layering). I absolutely love these, they are by far the softest cashmere I have ever felt. They are also available in many colors (I have ivory, peach, and lime green).
ReplyDeleteI am excited to see what you think of the J.Crew girls sweater--that is a beautiful color, and I am always tempted to order the kids' sizes but have been too chicken to do it so far.
ReplyDeleteLike Anonymous 3:07 above, I recently bought and wore the J.Crew Fisherman's Sweater in an XS regular, and it fits really well (I'm 4'11" and about 95 lbs.). The one I have is mustard-colored and has 3/4 sleeves. I'll probably post an outfit with it on my blog so--I'll link it here once I do.
is the j crew kids 12 too small for you?
ReplyDeleteHi Jean!
ReplyDeleteIt's Adriana. I met you a few weeks back at dimsum with Vi (I was that other small Asian girl haha). I somehow found this blog and thought you looked really familiar and then I saw your post with Vi! I browsed through a few of your posts and it looks like we frequent the same stores! It's amazing that you have a blog like this for other petite girls. I remember it being very difficult to shop when I first starting interning! (I started interning at the age of 15...can't imagine how young I must have looked back then in the corporate world!) but over the years, I've gotten much better at knowing where to shop instead of getting frustrated. I'm not the blogger type but I would love to share some tips or something in the future :-)
I especially love the striped GAP one!
ReplyDeleteI am curious how the J. Crew girls size will fit you. I have never tried the kid sizes!
Speaking of sweaters, LOFT is having a $25+ sweater sale and I picked up a couple sweaters and cardigans with coupon code 'HOLIDAY'- it gets you $25 off of a $50 purchase. How handy is that!
ReplyDeleteI've bought two Crewcuts sweaters in girls 14 last year -- the style was great and no one can tell it's kids, but be aware that they do shrink. Expect the sleeves to shrink -- the cuffs no longer hit my wrists but just above so I end up rolling them up to look 3/4 length. The length is still good though and hits at the hip.
ReplyDeleteI own the first sweater you have a picture of, the wool blend cable sweater from Gap. I got it last week for 60% off in store, and it is a good purchase! I love it, it is really comfy and provides a lot of warmth, which is good for the upcoming cold front my town is about to face. Very good for layering, and fits pretty true to size. The sleeves actually aren't too long for me, for once! It's just perfect.

Great picks! I ended up ordering the JCrew sweater in retro orange. I'm hoping it doesn't end up being wide and boxy! And in case you haven't seen this, I saw the Gap striped sweater on another blogger: http://www.swankheights.net/2011/11/life-in-technicolor.html
ReplyDeleteNice picks - I have that first sweater in gray, it's so soft and comfy!
ReplyDeleteAm I too late for the 50% off?
ReplyDeleteThat's funny, I bought the striped GAP sweater, and another sweater as well on the site when they were marked down to $25 on Black Friday. My wardrobe is lacking in the sweater dept so I was on the lookout for some nice sweaters this holiday. I'm pretty sensitive to wool (I itch if there's even the slightest wool) so I have to avoid them, sadly, since there are some beautiful sweaters out there with wool on Gap and Loft. The mohair sweater from J Crew is beautiful in color and style, but I think I'd itch too much :)
ReplyDeleteThank you everyone for the deal tips and other cable sweater recommendations! And thank you for sharing your fit/sizing experience - very helpful.
ReplyDelete@rach I don't wear pants to work often but I do wear pants on the weekends and casually. I don't think these will be too chunky for skirts! I'll give it a try with some of my shorter skirts for casualwear, and also over skinny bottoms.
@Anonymous I haven't tried Crewcuts in a long, long time but a kids size 12 in any brand is usually fitted on me. I want a casual-fit sweater and sized up to a 14.
@Adriana Hi Adriana! How funny! I just told Vi about this : ) I would love to hear some of your tips, item picks, and styling ideas.
I suppose it doesn't happen to everyone, but one of my co-workers told me a customer had bought the striped cable knit sweater and it pilled quickly. I'm not sure if she was rolling around on a shag rug or rubbing up against a cactus, but thought I'd give you a heads up and test to see if it does pill easily. Nothing worse than a cute sweater suddenly looking like your dog just rolled around on it.
