H&M Update - Wool minis, faux-fur stoles, wedge booties

H&M currently has these wool-blend (50% wool, 40% viscose, 10% poly) miniskirts for $24.95. I saw at least three colors - burnt orange (similar to the orange jacket but a deeper, rustier color), camel, and medium gray. A size 2 fit me perfectly and measures 12" across the waist, 14" in length. They're lined and have functional kangaroo pockets.
The pairing possibilities are endless with a little wool mini. Think slouchy sweaters, winter blazers, colored/textured tights, and more. I loved J.Crew's felted wool skirt last year, but sizing was not at all petite-friendly.
Also tried on these wool-y plaid shorts with belt, $34.95. These would be cute over winter tights with booties for a schoolboy look. Size 2 fit me well, but I wasn't really feeling it with these.
Saw wedge booties in taupe (pictured below) and gray, $39.95, but very few sizes were left. My H&M wedge booties from last year were very light and comfy and got tons of wear. There was also a pile of faux-fur collars in a number of colors, very similar to the one I got last year.
Lastly, I stumbled upon this blouse. I had circled this blouse as my favorite item in the H&M lookbook, but was sorely disappointed today. The model made it look feminine, crisp, and chic, but in-person the silk/viscose blend is very sheer and wrinkly. The back is also jarringly longer than the front, making it hard to keep tucked. And the worst part - a hefty $59.95 price tag for this unfortunate top!
Tucked in, it looks ok but was too poofy on me and the buttons kept gaping. Oh, what a bummer, little piped blouse!
Readers - Pick up anything good from H&M lately?

  1. I'd really like to see how you styled the wedge booties! I've been wanting a pair!

  2. I agree the top you liked seemed to be a winner from the lookbook, but disappointing IRL.

  3. Wow the blouse looks amazing on the model! Such a disappointment that it didn't look as nice in person. It looks as if they were made with completely different materials. What the heck. Asymmetrical tops seem to be one of the big trends lately so I'm not surprised by the longer back. I really like the wool skirts you found. I haven't seen them in stores yet, but I'll be keeping an eye out for them!

  4. I'll be checking out my store for those skirts after I get off in the morning! Bummer on the blouse :/ Thanks for the reviews!!

  5. The nearest H&M to me is a good 40 minute drive, so I don't go there that often. I've been looking online, and according to their website, the vast majority of their blazers start at size 4 (I wear a 2 in their clothing). Did you happen to see any smaller blazers in the store? I am assumming they don't exist since they're not on the website, and I don't want to make the trek if there aren't any in my size.

  6. The orange skirt looks amazing on you. I've been seeing cute booties everywhere but am not too sure how I'd style them - especially because I mostly wear skinny jeans or pants.

  7. @Ella Pretty Blog @mai Booties (and wedge booties) are so cute with skinny jeans and pants! Aside from with tights, that's actually the only way I'd wear them (too cute to hide under wider-legged or boot cut bottoms).

@Anonymous I noticed that the website doesn't show ANYTHING in a size smaller than 4, but at my local store, they have 2 in almost everything. Why this discrepancy - I don't know. Since H&M is so far from you, it probably doesn't hurt to call ahead and describe the item/price and have your size put on hold!

  8. @Anonymous And yes, I meant to say, I saw lots of blazers in size 2. In their "suiting" (which I'm not a fan of...I'm pickier with suiting material and usually splurge on Theory or something) but they also had knit blazers, casual blazers, long, cropped, etc.

  9. Love the wool minis! I wonder if they would fit my hips. Oftentimes H&M is cut too straight through the hip for me.

  10. I've been trying to curb my spending since the school year has started but am always intrigued by what H&M has been putting out, especially their fall collection. I'm in love with the color of that skirt. It's a shame I can't rock a wool mini the way you do! Actually, I don't think I can rock a mini-anything, LOL. Those wedge booties are so cute too! I have a taupe flat version that I can't wait to wear when it gets cooler. Great reviews, BTW.

  11. PetiteAsianGirl...thanks for the tip! I did visit my local store about a month or so ago, but it seems like they didn't have tons of blazers in stock yet (and I only found a couple of ugly ones in my size). Yeah, H&M "suiting" isn't so great but they have fun stuff sometimes...I work in a very casual office and like to pair my blazers with jeans. :-) By the way, I love your blog!

  12. that last blouse is really pretty, but yeah, it's hard for me to work around shirts that are longer in the back.

  13. Love that skirt's color and pockets! I was about to buy this last weekend but the fitting room line was too long. Judging where they hit you, I see that the skirt might actually be a bit short for my comfort level. I also admired those shorts but passed because I already own a pair of tweed shorts that I wear with tights. Too bad about the blouse being so wrinkle prone. It's cute but a bit too reminiscent of an old sailor dress rather chic.

The only thing I picked up from H&M was an over-sized cheetah print scarf similar to Wendy's leopard ones. I think over-sized scarves are tough to pull off on petites though so I will probably return and get the brown infinity scarf that Anh's been sporting.

  14. I have a black wool mini from the '90s that still looks new and it was $30 or something. Wool is great for stain-resistance cuz the moisture just rolls right off it most of the time.

  15. The mini is cute! Love the colors!

Those booties are tempting! I have worn my Ann Taylor heels to school twice now, but I am so paranoid that I will ruin them by the years end! I only spent $50 on them, but they are worth $200...so says the tag...makes me so sad to see gum stuck to the bottom and scuffs. Think I need some more bargain shoes for school!

Yes...bummer about the piped blouse! It is so wrinkly, too!

  16. The skirts are cute and so are the booties! Bummer bout the shirt though, it looks so good in the catalog.

p.s. I love your fitting room reviews!

  17. I picked up a knit blazer with the elbow patches with my 20% off coupon (sign up for email updates!).

You're making me want to get those booties and mini skirts!!!!

  18. Btw, do you have a link to your last year's H&M wedges?

  19. oh it's really too bad about that piped blouse! it really looks amazing on the model! i like the wool mini you bought and i can't wait to see you style it!

  20. Love the orange mini wool skirt. I might have to make a trip tomorrow and hope they have it in my store.

  21. I love the wool minis. I bought a similar one in hot pink - 100% polyester though, same price. At first glance I thought it was the same one. but no. The plaidy shorts are very cute, too bad you are not feeling it. I love it on you. :(

  22. Silk is unfortunately pricey compared to other fabrics and blame the photoshoppers for deceiving us of its true quality! It's so pretty, though.

  23. I bought a gray and a black wool mini from H&M last year, and I LOVE them! They are so versatile and work in all seasons. Unfortunately, they didn't have pockets like this year's do!

  24. I did a walk around at the H&M last week after our black out and just wasn't feeling any of the pieces. I wanted to buy one of their cuffs, but didn't want to wait in line to buy it.

That wool mini you bought fits you perfectly. Any dress or skirt that has pockets goes up 2 points in my book =)

I actually really like the shorts you tried on too despite your not feeling it.

  25. Oh! I love the wool minis; I want the camel colored one. Still trying to find the mustard pants from your other post--all the LA area H&Ms sold out.

  26. About sizing on the H&M website: the UK online shop doesn't offer anything in size 6 (EU 32/US 2) although it's readily available instore. :( I don't know if the same will apply to the North American online shop when it opens. It doesn't make any sense - if anything, this size should sell better online than in the shops! They don't carry jeans in 24/25 either, which annoys me as I can never find these sizes instore... H&M should know they're missing out on sales.

  27. so so sad about the blouse. was on my list of things to get from their line.

Tina, my rmt, bought the booties. she says they're comfortable, and I, of course, am jealous bc they'll be worn a lot in my presence. ha!

anyone seen the scalloped shorts on the ad?

  28. I love the skirt!! SO CUTE!

Have you seen the blouse at gap thats similar to that poor ill fitted one? http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=34609&vid=1&pid=834579 it doesn't look like they have petites, but still looks cute...

  29. Hummm...a friend wants me to pick up some things for her...but the quality just isn't worth the price for the items she's interested in. I did see the fur collars...and was debating whether to purchase one or not...but I guess I'll wait. However, the blouse sure is a bummer, along with other items at H&M.

  30. The wool skirts are so adorable! I have two - a grey and navy - from last year but I'm finding it difficult to create outfits. I can't wait to see how you wear them. Ideas please!

So good you didn't get that blouse ;p It looks like it's from those super old fashioned (vintage) pajamas.

  31. So cute! I picked up the wool mini in grey yesterday. They also had it in black at my H&M. :)

I can't wait to see how you style it.
