Petite Fashion Challenge #10 – Summer to Fall

This month’s Petite Fashion Challenge (PFC) is being hosted by fashionforteens. Be sure to check out her post for all the other ladies’ outfits! The challenge: “…take traditionally summer pieces (like tank tops, shorts, etc) and make them appropriate for fall.” PFCaugust

Shorts: H&M; sz 2 (old)   Tank: BR Lace Shell sz XXSP (similar)
Summer Shoes: BR (old)  Fall Shoes: Adrienne Vittadini “Adam” bootie (similar)
Blazer: Theory sz 00 (similarBags: LV Speedy 25 and Chanel WOC

All of my PFC’s are kind of a cop out. I was wearing the outfit on the left and just lazily swapped bare shoulders for a blazer, and peep toes for ankle boots. I was trying to add tights, but started sweating while digging for tights and subsequently gave up. When buying shorts, I specifically look for versatile ones that layer nicely over hosiery – either solid black, patterned, or textured tights.

To find out more about PFC and how you can sign up, visit the Alterations Needed forum for petites.

I did some digging in my camera, and here are the few photos I have from last week’s meetup! My photog was busy eating/imbibing at the men’s table. Thank you again ladies for a fun chatter-filled evening.
And you can’t see her, but Kerry of Little Nashua joined us from NH and brought a sprinkling of “diversity” to our table. Her blonde hair is hidden amongst a sea of shiny black manes. I’ve been following Kerry for a long time for her sewing projects and thrifting finds, and she is who I have to thank for discovering Savers – the magical thrift store that sorts everything by size! I love all my pencil skirts and jewelry from there!

A heated debate on the merits of LOFT versus LOFT Factory. (j/k)

Saying hello to Vicky’s daughter as alert Khatu strikes a pose:meetup2

I love how much love your lace top is getting!! 🙂 Very cute look…especially those booties. So many cute booties on this PFC challenge!

Love seeing more pics from the Boston meetup! Nick did a great job editing! So nostalgic looking! 🙂

Awww!! I love a girls' night out. :)Looks like you ladies had fun…

  • Elaine A (TOBeautyReviews) August 31, 2011 at 9:19 pm

Yay glad you found some photos! Soooo jealous of that top – still don't understand why it doesn't come in petites in Canada!

I don't think you're being lazy, you did a great job, we both used booties! 😛

  • The Little Dust Princess August 31, 2011 at 9:38 pm

The meetup looked like so much fun! I love those candid shots of you ladies. : )

  • Vicky August 31, 2011 at 9:50 pm

Jean was asking my daughter why she was calling mommy during a sleepover when she should have had a blast. I quickly withdrew the phone so my daughter wouldn't get any bad influence from her. lol. I love that picture, Jean! Didn't think the night shots would turn out that well.

  • Cee August 31, 2011 at 10:01 pm

Lol @ sweating while looking for tights. I didn't even get that far, for I was sweating while picturing my outfits with tights and gave up. Both looks are similar but yet distinctive and appropriate for each season. No worries about taking the easy way out 😉

The meetup looked like so much fun! Why did I not think to take the train up to Boston?! I love all the candid shots, but especially how great everyone looked while staying true to their personal style.

  • SewPetiteGal August 31, 2011 at 10:05 pm

Aww all of you ladies look so lovely during your meet-up! Maybe someday I can attend one too 🙂

Love your summer to fall look – you always wind up looking so chic!

  • Petite and Hungry August 31, 2011 at 10:16 pm

    you look amazing!!

  • CynthiaC August 31, 2011 at 10:17 pm

Love both outfits (though I'm not sure if those shorts would work later in the fall…in Boston, anyway :)) Also, looks like you had a great time at your girls' night out! 🙂

  • Anonymous August 31, 2011 at 10:41 pm

i like your summer to fall wardrobe look. you always have great style. 😉

  • ShortBlonde August 31, 2011 at 10:53 pm

I love the vintage, classy feel of the lace top paired with pearls. Curious- where did you get the dress you wore to the blogger meet-up? It fits you so nicely!

  • Samantha August 31, 2011 at 11:06 pm

Looks like a lot of fun with all you pretty petite ladies!! Girls night out is always fabulous!

    xo, sam

  • Alterations Needed August 31, 2011 at 11:44 pm

What? Kerry joined you ladies too? Jealous!!!

I love a good blazer look, so of course I'm liking your fall version. I've also fallen into a pattern of always trying H&M; shorts because of you, but unfortunately they don't look 1/2 as good on me as they do on you.

  • Anne L Toronto August 31, 2011 at 11:48 pm

@ Elaine A, I just found the lace mad men top Jean is wearing on the banana republic site Canada in the petite/tops section. I couldn't fund it in canadian stores either!

  • Petite-ish September 1, 2011 at 1:43 am

Ha! you weren't far off, at one point, we were discussing loft's vision and how it differed from ann taylor's

  • Petite in the City September 1, 2011 at 2:56 am

I love how your outfit is almost essentially the same, but swapping/adding different pieces changes the look completely!

I was sweating while changing into my fall photo outfit too! Your meetup looked really fun, and there's such a big group!

  • TaraMixandMatch September 1, 2011 at 3:14 am

I think you totally rocked this look! Love the blazer, and the shoes are amazing! Oh, and all you ladies look gorgeous!

  • PetiteLittleGirl September 1, 2011 at 6:19 am

Thank you for planning the event. I had so much fun meeting up with everyone. I love the blazer-and-shorts look in general. Just an FYI, the tee that I worn in my last post is now $25.00 (in-store and online)

  • faye lu September 1, 2011 at 7:23 am

i love the two looks, especially the blazer – so polished.
all you gals are so stylish xo

  • Elle September 1, 2011 at 8:46 am

Love the meet up pics! You all look beautiful.

  • myhanh September 1, 2011 at 8:48 am

Jean, thanks for organizing the event. I wish we had more time to connect! Yes, indeed Ann Taylor is the new black, or shall I say, the new BR!! I got a couple of new fall pieces at the factory story. Hope to share soon.
Oh, btw the booties are adorable. I really love suede, even if they aren't the best in the rain/snow of NE.

  • Chococcuro September 1, 2011 at 9:37 am

Your outfit's beautiful, and so are you!!

It must be so much fun to go to meet ups like this. There's no bloggers around where I live…that I can find anyway…xD

  • Beautygirl24 September 1, 2011 at 11:50 am

You girls are all stylish and beautiful! I love seeing you all together!

  • Jackie September 1, 2011 at 5:49 pm

Jean, these PFCs are so effortless for you! Great job, again!

I wish I lived closer to you guys looking at these pics. Looks like you had a lot of fun =)

I'm a recent reader to your blog and I just have to say that I love your style 🙂 Simple, classy, and chic! I'm pretty petite too at 5'3" and 100 lbs (can we talk about how I have no hips or butt lol?), and love that you have demystified how to dress better for my body type (I used to think Ann Taylor was only a place where my mom shops!). I recently graduated college, so now I'm trying to distance myself from teen brands and develop a much more professional wardrobe–but it's hard. Those brands are so cheap and have cute stuff that still, unfortunately, appeals to me. I found a similar blouse to the BR lace blouse you're wearing in this post at American Eagle: for about $21. Their sizes run small and they even carry XXS, so sometimes AE can be a hit if you're looking for cute trendy stuff.

  • Erin September 1, 2011 at 9:00 pm

The last picture looks awesome! Totally reminiscent of a jailhouse lineup! Crimes of fashion 😀

    (womp wommmmp!)

    Love the challenge outfit too!

  • grace September 1, 2011 at 10:57 pm

Love the photos – and oh so chic ; ) Thanks for sharing Jean!

  • Olyvia September 1, 2011 at 11:35 pm

lol on erin's comment of jailhouse lineup, I love up when you girls have meetup with photos, it really does help me gauge clothing sizes, since I follow most of the petite bloggers for size reference when I shop online 🙂 Sydney looks tall!

  • PetiteAsianGirl September 2, 2011 at 10:58 am

@myhanh Good to know..I am going soon…to the SECRET best Factory location heheh. Are you keeping the snug and long Gap leggings?

@Petite-ish AH yes…I heard kady used to work for them way back when they didn't have a true vision yet!

@Anne L Toronto Thanks for sharing! I tweeted Elaine to let her know : )

@a.b. I love it! Thanks so much for sharing. I'm glad they're not slapping their bird logo on everything like A&F…I;'d wear some of their stuff if it weren't for those logos! And glad I've converted you to check out AT – they are one of my favorite places to shop except items can still run a little big and long (probably not with your height, though!).

  • myhanh September 2, 2011 at 11:30 am

Jean- the gap leggings- I think they're final sale, no?

  • PetiteAsianGirl September 2, 2011 at 11:33 am

@myhanh Gap also never has final sale unless it's marked down in-store with that little white "final sale" sticker. Check your receipt and lemme know if I'm wrong?

  • Really Petite September 2, 2011 at 12:05 pm

Great job on the challenge! I had issues with this one..LOL

And thanks for sharing the pics of the meet-up! Looks like so much fun:)

  • September 2, 2011 at 4:24 pm

The summer look is lovely and the fall look has a bit of edge; makes me want a pair of booties/shooties!

  • Stephanie September 5, 2011 at 8:10 pm

Love the ways you've paired those shorts!
I'm not even near petite, but I still adore and relate to your style.

  • Ellabella September 14, 2011 at 12:08 am

Hi! I love your style, always so cute! Even though I find that your style is a little bit more mature and professional (probably cos of your age) I still love it! I'm only 18 but I still find alot of it that I want hanging in my closet. Anyways, my question was is the BR lace shell top the same as in The Mad Men collection? or is their a difference? Because I'm inlove w/ the top but they are out of stock in the Mad Men collection.
