Fresh, no-frills lobster on the dock at Three Sons, plus corn & steamed clams (best meal of the trip).

Scrumptious breakfast made right in front of you by Monica & Rock of White Cedar Inn. This was my first time staying at a bed & breakfast and it was quite different from chain hotels. Our room was cozy and clean, but the best part was the food. Clockwise from top: Tuscan scrambled eggs w/ bacon and biscuits, chocolate cheesecake bites, blueberry rhubarb cobbler, apple pie pancakes with sausage.

Portland has tons of craft breweries. We did some tours & tastings but I was relegated to tasting strawberry pop because I forgot my ID. Sigh! For dinner we went to Gritty McDuffs, a brew pub. Clockwise from top: Steak tacos, pulled-pork over sweet potato fries and maple sour cream (I give this points for creativity), lobster mac n' cheese (fantastic), fried Maine shrimp.

Purchases over the holiday weekend: $5 hat from Gap outlet, and canary yellow slingbacks from the Cole Haan outlet. They had quite the selection of sz 5 clearance shoes! These were $40 down from $280.

$12 for 13 oysters at J's Oyster in Portland (quite the deal, but quite the long wait!). Sea scallops w/ lemon & dill.

Our friend helped us take these "couple" shots. She's not a photographer, so I was very impressed by these shots!

ReplyDeleteJean, I think you got a "yellow fever" haha. But I have to say yellow does compliment well your skin tone, and it's perfect for the summer. I have been looking for a low-end yellow pump but still haven't been able to find the lemon yellow that I want.
ReplyDeletei love the yellow shoes and the pictures. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHi Jean, may I know what camera you using?
ReplyDeleteOmg I'm drooling over the food! I love seafood!! And omg- are those CH aurora's? I have the green in sz 5 and the yellow in 5.5 (big but do-able). I lucked out at mine first time ever!

ReplyDeleteThe pictures are great! (food and couples!) Makes me want to travel to the East Coast so bad. Glad you had a great little vacation!
ReplyDeleteLooks like such a fun time! You two make a beautiful couple :)
ReplyDeleteI bookmarked the lobster restaurant so that when Mike and I visit NE, we'll be able to try it!

ReplyDeleteyour friend did an amazing job with the photos. you and nick are so cute...i love the pic where you guys are sitting in the field.
The food looks incredible! Adorable couple shots too! ;)
ReplyDeleteyou guys always seem to eat at great places! very jealous.
ReplyDeleteJean! I love these pictures, especially the couple-shots! hehe, cute! Looks like you had tons of fun. I'm still in Quebec enjoying the Quebec city now. Beautiful city and beautiful weather today. Can't wait to share pictures. ttyl!
ReplyDeleteAwesome pictures! :) Now I am craving some lob-stahh! You two should check out some bars in Portland next time you visit. The crowd is eclectic to say the least...I took pictures once with a bunch of long bearded, burly sea fishermen decked out in their fishing gear.
ReplyDeleteYou know the couple shots look like engagement photos. ;) So cute! Anyway all your food looks scrumptious. I emailed this post to my bf, we may take a trip up to Maine sometime though we can't make lobsterfest this yr, boo.
ReplyDeleteLove B&B's! Quite often they're even cheaper than hotels (not to mention, the rooms are more home-like).
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great time - food looks SO good.
Do you research local outlets whenever you travel, cause you seem to luck out and find them all the time :)
Loved the food pr0n! New England B&B's must be very charming. Nice score on the hat. And I can't help myself-- where is the belt from? :)
ReplyDeleteyou guys are such a cute couple! how tall is your boyfriend?
ReplyDeleteThat looks like the perfect getaway trip! Definitely going to visit Maine someday, and a bed and breakfast definitely sounds cozy and romantic. Your friend may have a gift with the camera...I'm very impressed, too!
ReplyDeleteWow great pictures on the food and great purchase on those shoes. I never been to a bed & breakfast...I will one day. oh and you guys make an adorable couple! :-)

ReplyDeleteYou and Nick are a gorgeous couple!
ReplyDeleteAlso, on an unrelated note, you totally would have rocked this nytimes style feature:
http://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/2011/07/05/fashion/street-style-lace-fringe.html?ref=style
The most GORGEOUS geezers in Maine ;)). The last picture is my favorite... looks like you guys had a blast!
ReplyDeleteI know you'll prob both hate me for saying this... BUT YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE THE CUUUUTEST BABIES!!
BTW, if you call the Freeport factory outlet in Maine you can get the shoes sent to you for $10.95, which I did. :-)
ReplyDeleteI love all the food and your pics with bf! Especially the last one <3
ReplyDeleteThe food looks...so scrumptious...I would love to eat authentic Maine lobster and crab cakes, not the Red Lobster kind. The couple photos are so beautiful!
ReplyDelete@Bravoe Runway @Deborah We do a lot of walking here in Boston and very little driving. It's a good pre- and post- meal workout! Deborah - the necklace is from Forever21.
ReplyDelete@newpetite Speaking of Kelly, I think she has these adorable yellow woven peeptoes also from the Cole Haan outlet : )
@a rose Lol! Yes I am guilty. I have an awful lot of yellow in my closet. Finding the perfect shade of yellow is worth the wait! To be honest I don't love how bright yellow these are...much prefer a muted mustard yellow.
@zhi Hi Zhi - I'm using a Canon T2i.
@Cadrommy After eating lobster all day, we thought the lobster mac would be overkill but it ended up being our favorite dish at dinner! A must-try if you like both lobster and mac n' cheese.
@-C Burly fishermen, oh boy! Sounds like we missed out ; )
@jeweliette Lobsterfest?? Must look this up!
@Kelly I agree, I had a great first B&B experience. Not cheaper though! It was actually quite a bit more than regular hotels, but we figured it'd be worth it for the "total experience" lol. And the outlets were a complete surprise to me. My friend warned me of an LL bean outlet, but I had no idea we'd be staying in a town where the main attraction is the outlet center!
@mirigoround Thank you! It's from Forever 21, taken from a pair of not-so-cute shorts : )
@Anonymous Thanks! He's 5'9."
@Cat in Calico Make sure it's not in winter! I hear winters are bitter cold there, plus you can't eat lobster outdoors on the bench : )
ReplyDelete@Petite-ish Oh how neat! I like how they have a "theme" every week. Thanks for sharing : ) Btw, did you make it out for the Ann Taylor sale? I heard that Harvard Square has the best sale selection...tempting!
@Anonymous Oo, what did you order? Freeport is where we stayed, and they had these yellow ones, plus a very similar style in snakeskin which I liked as well!
@Margaret You know, I used to looove red lobster! I'm afraid to go back and eat it now that I'm spoiled by Maine lobbys : /
Love the picture of y'all with the lobster! Your friend took some really great "couples" shots too!
ReplyDeletexo, sam
Hi Jean! Your Chanel shades, is there a place online I can order those? I've been searching for those for so long and I found one on eBay for an auction, but I'm not sure it's authentic, seems like it from the pictures but I'm not sure if it really is... Please help! (=
ReplyDelete- Vivian
OMG! After about 6000 hits on our website from here, I backtracked and found you. Thank you, Jean, for showcasing our food so well!
ReplyDeleteLove your blog and I'm going to send the link to my 2 petite daughters.
Thanks,
Monica & Rock
