I popped into H&M today to scope out their new arrivals, and I have to say I haven't been this excited about clothes in a while. For Fall, I'm lusting after feminine pieces in earthy colors like rustic orange, terracotta red, and moss green. H&M satisfied my cravings today at great prices - I hope the Fall collection will just get better and better! 1. Slouchy tee w/ chest pocket in XS - Purchased. $7.95, many colors. I love this moss-y one.
2. High-Waisted Pleated Skirt in sz 2, black with ivory dots - Purchased. Style # 027011, $29.95. Gorgeous, with a slight vintage vibe. A sz 2 fits tiny measuring 12" across the waist and 21" in length, so I can wear it as a true high-waisted skirt. I would love it if this came in more colors this season.
3. Grecian Pleated Tea-Length Dress in sz 2 - Passed. Style #045326, $34.95. This was one of my fave items, but it's not for me. I would LOVE to see it on someone else, paired with some jewelry and sandals. The blush pink color, pleats, longer length, and floaty top are so ethereal, and it's quite affordable for a longer dress.
4. Knit Basic Striped Skirt in sz S - Wishlisted in XS. Forgot the style #, but this is just $5.95! Color looks black in the pics, but it's a navy blue with beige - adorable. XS was all gone, and a S was too big.
5. Orange Basketweave Swing Jacket in sz 2 -
6. Pleated Dress w/ Mesh Sweetheart Neckline in XS (black) and S (cream) - Passed. Style #050215 (black), $29.95. This dress doesn't look good in my photos, but it's ust lovely in person. I especially love the mix of textures - soft knit pleats, demure mesh neckline, and sturdy grosgrain ribbon waist. The fit of an XS isn't perfect, but the alteration is simple - take up shoulder straps by approx. 1 inch, and that should fix both the saggy torso and the low neckline.
Readers - what's your favorite piece from H&M's new arrivals?

omg, i'm so in love with the orange swing jacket!! how super cute and i love the little slit at the end of the sleeve opening! it's at the top of my wishlist too! and you found a great outfit for <$38. i love the polka-dots!
ReplyDeleteI saw all of these today! I love their shimmery/glittery items.
ReplyDeleteAhhh Jean I love that first skirt!! I must head to H&M soon!!!!!!!!!!! (damn you :P )

I have tried the dress too:it's very pretty and looks great on you:))
xx
Oh that first skirt, striped skirt, and the last dress is just gorgeous! :)
ReplyDeletei'll have to go grab some of those tops! i rarely pop into H&M, but these look like they have potential! Thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteI tried the mesh dress on last week in the blush colour. It's such a flirty, feminine dress!
ReplyDeleteLove the striped skirt. I also really like the swing jacket... but not at that price tag! Will have to pop in soon for all the goodies! Thanks for the update!
ReplyDeleteI love all your picks! I never seem to have any luck at H&M so I'm always jealous of your finds!
ReplyDeletep.s. Imma give you a shoutout on my blog tomorrow!
love love the first polka skirt! fits you so well and i love the length and pleats. great buy!
ReplyDeleteI love the t-shirt! I'm going to have to go check them out! While the other items were lovely, a great, comfortable, versatile and sexy, v-neck t-shirt will get me every time!
ReplyDeletei just came back from h&m! the striped skirt and orange jacket are so cute on you. i'm excited for this season's fall too! but summer just arrived ...
ReplyDeleteWow I LOVE that polka dot H&M skirt! Being in Houston, there isn't an H&M in the entire state. I have only been there once or twice in my life...do they ship? Is there any way to order items from the store? I would love to get my hands on that skirt! Thanks in advance!
ReplyDeleteSarah
i saw that polka dot skirt yesterday & fell in love w it too!! it looks so good on you. i was so happy to see all the fall stuff @ h&m too. i can't wait for cold weather again!
ReplyDeleteYou always make me want to brave the crowds at H&M to look for your finds!! :p The deal on the striped skirt is amazing! That polka dot skirt would be so fun, too!! Thanks for the reviews!! :)
ReplyDeleteVery cute finds & I do love that longer dress. I may have to check that out for myself. Thanks for the reviews :)
ReplyDeletelove the skirt and the orange jacket :)
ReplyDeleteCute skirt.
ReplyDeleteand I love your shoes! Where did you get them?
oh noes! you're giving me a reason to go to H&M... again. you're such an enabler jean!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite thus far has got to be the Pleated Dress w/ Mesh Sweetheart Neckline :) I also love the mix of textures. It looks elegant and I'm loving how affordable it is. Yes!
ReplyDeleteI'm really liking that orange jacket- it reminds me of the coral swing jacket they had for spring with the gold buttons (I wore it recently in a post). Does it come in any other colours??
ReplyDeleteThat polka dot skirt is also lovely and I can't wait to see the many ways that I'm sure you'll style it in!
Did you see the conscious collection for fall, too (I don't think it's out in stores yet)? The floral prints are gorgeous!
Jen
Thanks Jean for the preview! I liked everything on you! I can't wait for the H&M-Versace collab. Most likely, there's going to be a huge line and people snatching pieces up and re-selling them on Ebay for a ridiculous amount *sigh*
ReplyDeleteI tried on three of the same things you tried on and I loved the pleated polka dot skirt the most. I didn't buy it because I've been trying to control my buying, but I'm totally regretting it. I also tried on those 2 dresses and both didn't work out on me. I love the ideas of them, though. But I totally missed that $6 skirt!! I love it on you and you MUST get it.
ReplyDeleteYou're always so fast to check out new collections! :) I really like the striped skirt, it's so unique.
ReplyDeleteLove the orange blazer and the pleated dress, H&M is always so great!
ReplyDeleteSIDEWALKCATWALKS.blogspot.com
loving the last dress with the sweetheart neckline! and dang, didn't even know fall stuff was coming into stores already, so thanks for the heads up! :)
ReplyDeleteThe first ensemble fits you well. That orange jacket and tshirt might fill the void in my closet though (uh-oh goes my hubby).
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is the pleated polka dot skirt. I might have to stop by H&M this weekend to check these out. I am so excited for Fall especially when the temperature will be cool down a bit. I am dying in this heat wave =)
ReplyDeleteI will definitely be on the look out for that polka dot skirt...LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteThe closest H&M to me is about 50 miles away, but given all the great stuff at an amazing price that you find there, I think I'm going to have to make the trek sometime.
ReplyDeletelove the polka dot skirt. need to go to H&M soon.
ReplyDeleteI saw that skirt at H&M last week and thought, that would look great on Jean! I love it paired with the moss green shirt and I bet it would also look really nice with stripes or even animal print like 9to5chic does. I saw that H&M brought back another version of their slim knit peacoat/blazer. The only colors I saw were gray and black. And unfortunately the lapels are cut much bigger so very overwhelming on a petite. I wish they'd bring back the red one you have. But that swing jacket looks like it might fit my red jacket quota ;)
ReplyDeleteAHH. I love your first outfit a lot! :) You looked nice in all of the clothes, makes me want to try them on too~! I might have to visit H&M soon. :3 Hehe.
ReplyDeleteI love that t-shirt, I have it in navy. Just letting you know that you can get 20% off any full-priced item if you sign up for H&M newsletter! Use it wisely :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tips on the H&M Pre-Fall collection! I think I'd better snap over there and grab that nautical skirt. I've been obsessed with navy and other block color stripes. I think I really want that. Target has cute bandage mini skirts in stripes for $10.99, I think this is definitely a super deal.
ReplyDeleteI like the Grecian dress, too, but you're really swimming in it. Would definitely like to see it on someone else as well, or on you if it fit better. It's a nice silhouette for you, if it were slimmer, though.
At the risk of sounding inappropriate and kind of gay, your body looks amazing in that pocket T... it makes you look like you have a decent amount of curves and it's alluringly cut low but not too low. It's sexy but without being slutty.
xx{ish.},
Mae Lu @ thereafterish.!
I am going to H&M tomorrow and I can't wait to try everything you have on! The black pleated dress is really lovely! The little swing jacket is cute too.
ReplyDeleteI love the first outfit. I HAVE to stop by H&M tomorrow after work (and pay day ^_^). I just love your blog it gives me so much inspiration on how to improve my look [:
ReplyDeleteand I was just saying to myself, I need more slouchy white tees for lazy days. Thanks for the tip.
ReplyDeletebtw, excellent hair in the first pic.
I love that polka dot skirt. So cute & vintage-y.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that jacket!! It reminds me of Breakfast at Tiffany's!! *___*
ReplyDeleteSo many cute things!! I have to get to H&M eventually...Can't wait to see what you pair these new pieces with.
The orange jacket looks like a winner! What would you pair it with? White? Beige? Or red?????
ReplyDeleteJean, I like how you're always on top of new releases. You stay on top of the stores that I always forget to check :) Just went to H&M's site and holy moly! There are so many things I want! Scratch that, MUST HAVE. Riding boots (I'm really tempted to pick up both colors, which is unlike me), drapey vest and blazer.
ReplyDeleteOf all the items you tried on, def go back to get the striped skirt! The beigey-camel is very flattering on you. Same with the last pleated dress. I can see both you and Elle rocking it.
The polka dot skirt is very reminiscent of the skirt Ann Taylor had in their Spring collection this year.
ReplyDeleteI love the last item-the dress! It's so classic and chic but updated with the sheer tank top part and then the sweetheart neckline. Love:)
ReplyDeleteMy favs are the polka dot skirt and the swing jacket! They would look very cute together too!
ReplyDeleteWow I NEED that orange jacket! adorable! I'm going to H&M on Saturday so hopefully I can get some cute stuff.
ReplyDeleteI looove the Grecian dress, I may pop into H&M this weekend to check it out. I've kinda been wanting a maxi dress for the season, I don't own any.
ReplyDeletelove love love the polka dot skirt and last dress!
ReplyDelete@Annapurna It goes with tons of stuff. I kept on thinking about it today and went back and got it!
ReplyDelete@Anonymous Yes it is reminiscent of their navy/white version, except this one fits smaller and is a fraction of the price!
@Anonymous thanks! They're the Louboutin Simple 100's in nude - a splurge, but I also have similar ones from Target.
@Janet I completely forgot to mention that and updated my post today : ) I ran into some nice SA's and I was able to use my coupon several times.
jean, do u have any tips+tricks on preventing jewelry to tarnish? i have a pair of earrings made out of alloy and has rhinestone studs.
ReplyDeletealso my jewelry from forever21 tends to wear out easily
thanks :)
Hi Jean,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing about the clothes. I'd like to get the polka dot skirt at H&M, but could not find that skirt on their online store. Do you have a direct link to it, or where can I purchase it? Thank you so much in advance.
I got the H&M jacket too! And a sateen dress in the same color - the fit is swingy (like a 60s dress) but may require some alterations.
ReplyDeleteLike the jacket but both the 2 and the 4 don't close right over my postpartum ta-tas. I would like to be able to wear the jacket closed but when I snap the size 2 closed, the "crease" on the placket opens/stretches a little (not sure how to describe this.) Otherwise the 2 fits perfectly! The 4 is a little better (the crease does not stretch as much)but the jacket feels too big in the shoulders. Sigh. At least I have 30 days to figure out what to do.
Does the placket lie flat when you close the jacket? Or is it a design flaw that can be remedied by wearing the jacket open?
H&M has coupons? Where?!
ReplyDeletetheir slouchy tees are so awesome!! i may not love everything they have, but i always find something i want there! love the post!
ReplyDeleteI got the same polka dot skirt last week! Agreed, I would love it in multiple other colors. perfect comfy item to throw on for work, with no iron needed :)

ReplyDeletehi jean!
Foremost, how do you manage to pull off everything you wear & always look so effortless & adorable?? :)
I went to h&m today and just have the below comments on the couple items you described:
1. That cream dress looks/feels so delicate, but I found that upper bust area felt disproportionate. I'm about a size bigger than you and tried on the xs. I wasn't sure about the lowcut sheer part at the top either...do you think it's the kind of bra you wear that makes all-the-difference? I wasn't confident even if i were to wear a strapless.
2. I have a bunch of the basic slouchy tees myself - they are super comfy. Do you wear a tank underneath? I feel like everytime I bend over you can see my bra... just want to know if I am the only one with this issue and what I can do to remedy it.
Thanks in advance for your expertise!
The striped skirt comes in XS, the sales associates are lying to you ! I just picked one up at H&M this afternoon.
ReplyDeleteAny recommended colors that you would pair with the skirt?
@jeanna I have the same problem with the slouchy tees - I can't bend over without flashing someone (and I bend over a lot to pick up my little girl). I layer a fitted camisole underneath, but it's not ideal.
ReplyDelete@Jean: You make everything look good. I have to stop myself from running out and shopping after reading your posts!
*GASP* Your so lucky to have found such nice SA's! I look foward to seeing your next H&M purchases :) Even though I'm completely out of your target audience, I still read your blog because that's how great it is!
ReplyDelete@jeanna Hi Jenna, I planned on wearing a strapless with the dress. I found the upper bust area to be a little low but that's because H&M isn't petite sizing - it's made for those a little taller, so I recognized that I would need to take the shoulder straps up a bit to move the neckline up. As for the slouchy tees, yes I agree with Petite Mom that you can prevent peeksies by layering a camisole or tank underneath, or even a second tee. I go without it because I like the loose and carefree look, you just have to be careful not to bend over too much!
ReplyDelete@Anonymous Oh I was pretty sure they had no idea what they were talking about, lol. I already wore the sz S but it kept falling down and I don't have a sewing machine handy to fix it. As for pairing, it's so easy! The most conservative is just a navy or white tee on top, but it actually goes with all sorts of colors. You can try a darker brown as well.
@Janet Thank you, Janet! And oh...I suppose should stop using the coupon and not abuse their kindness : )
ReplyDelete@Annapurna The jacket definitely runs narrow for a "swing" style jacket. The sz 2 closes on me but it's almost snug, and doesn't really swing. I plan on wearing it mostly open!
@Jessica S. Hi Jessica, unfortunately H&M doesn't have an online store in the US yet. THey're aiming for early 2012 I think. If you don't have an H&M near you, you can try your luck on the "Item Requests" thread on the Alterations Needed Forum for petites (forum.alterationsneeded.com). Good luck!
@Anonymous Hi there, I've heard of a few tips shared by readers, such as: coat the costume jewelry with clear nail polish right when you get it, keep it stored in sealed zip loc bags to slow down the oxidation, and also clean with baking soda (I think?). I use the clear polish for small items, and keep necklaces in baggies.
Oh wow - I am in love with the polka dotted pleated skirt! Lovely lovely. And...Tampa is getting an H&M next month...crossing my fingers I can get my hands on some of the awesome new fall things asap!
ReplyDeleteLove your site!! Just came back from H&M in search of that navy striped skirt but they said they didn't receive it yet...hoping it wasn't just sold out :(
ReplyDeleteAny ideas on when it will be in stores??
On the H&M website, a lot of the items I'm clicking are listed as only having sizes starting at 4. What's up with that? :x
ReplyDeleteI bought the pleated dress!! In love. <33
ReplyDeleteHi Jean!
ReplyDeleteI was wondering what is the name of the colour of your H&M slouchy tee? I can't seem to find it! :(
