Warm weather, where art thou?

I entered a contest and will find out next week if I made it to the top three. If that happens, by some stroke of luck, I would love to have the votes of you readers and friends. The voting window is short, from 3-6pm, so I will let you guys know if I make it : )

Ping formally requested more casual outfits, so here are some pics from my contest entry. None of these pieces have seen daylight yet (and won't for 3+ more months) because of dreary New England weather:
F21stripes
Top: Forever 21 Woven Striped Shirt sz S (similar)
Shorts: H&M Belted Trouser Shorts sz 2
Necklace: Temple St. Claire for Target (other TSC for Target)
Shoes: Target Tawny Wedges sz 5.5
Polish: Revlon Vixen (love love)

The F21 woven shirt is from this post. I put this in the washer & dryer and ... wowza, wish I took before photos. Size S was super duper loose on me before, and must've shrunk down at least 2 sizes.

Twitter friends may already know I'm in love with these "UPS brown" high-waisted shorts from H&M. My bf gave a rare thumbs-up and dubbed them my "boy scout shorts." They are a fitted, knit trouser material, and look crisp and tailored. Sz 2 fits snugly on me. They are a recent find and retail for $34.95. Style # 083070 from the "everyday" department.

I decided to keep these brown Tawny Wedges because they are fun and comfortable. However, readers beware...my qualms with the thin wedge heels have proven to be legitimate. Lilly - you poor thing.

  1. Jean, you styled this outfit perfectly. The colors complement one another and it just looks so fresh! Is this a photo or fashion contest? Heck, you'd qualify for either one! Best of luck! Now that I'm on Twitter, I shouldn't miss the voting window :)

  2. Jean, you look beautiful, as usual!

I love how you styled the shirt with the fitted shorts, and accessories!

  3. Very cute stripes!! Love the shirt with those shorts too - I'd never think to pair them but it looks really nice.

And poor Lilly!! I can totally see myself taking a tumble too... I have a pair of wedges that does the saaaame thing. Fashion tragedy!

  4. cute outfit! i live in boston too and this morning on the green line on my way to work, i am pretty sure i saw you get off at arlington!

  5. Love the nautical-esque shirt and those shorts really do look so well-tailored! I am still stalking my H&M for a nice pair of shorts.

I'll trade you your dreary New England weather for my milder Southern climate. By the time I finally purchased my thinsulate Lady Day coat for the right price and color, it was too warm to wear! I grew up on the West coast without winters so I would love to wear peacoats and wool all year!

I shuddered after reading Lily's anecdote. So sorry to read that! :(

  6. I'll check your blog tomorrow around 3! Fingers crossed that you make top 3 and I will definitely vote for you :)

Love the combo of the loose blouse (and it has stripes!!!) plus the fitted shorts - just gorgeous!

  7. Those are great shorts! The material make them look expensive. I keep seeing that top in F21 but never in a small enough size. =)

I love the creative new poses you've got going too!

  8. And obviously, you have my vote!

  13. Now I'm curious what this contest is :P You have my vote, that's a given!

And see, there's something Nick likes to see you wear! *winks* :P

I love the fun/sexy vibe this outfit gives off, with the pretty Target necklace and your nautical feel. Adorable! I don't think I'd be able to pull the look off at all.

I like the request for casual wear, since I go to work in casual wear too, I could use more tips!

  14. After owning vixen, I was obsessed for several weeks, until my Zoya polish came in. Playing w/those for now.

Do you ever feel gold hardware @ H&M is too gold? like yellow gold? I had considered buying the navy ruffle dress w/the belt from this post : http://www.extrapetite.com/2011/02/slim-knit-h-blazer-is-back-in-stores.html, but...the gold on the belt looked so cheapo. I know I can always replace it, but still...

  15. You look stunning as always Jean. I am looking forward to hear more about the contest. You already had my vote. Those shorts look amazing on you. You're right! They look way better with proper pictures than the twitpic :) I hope you'll be one of the top three contestants. Good luck!

  17. OUCH! I know I'm clumsy with thin wedges myself...and am still thinking about getting these shoes cause I am in love!! <3 what to do...what to do...????!!! le sigh*

  18. Fresh and cute outfit. It is nice to see more casual side of your wardrobe. May I guess that it is a modeling kind of contest? I am positive that you will be one of the final three.

High waisted shorts are everywhere. I find it tricky to style, you can either look great or funny in them. They look cute on you.

  19. Great outfit and those "UPS" shorts look fabulous! ;) Good luck in the contest!...(You know you've got my vote for sure ;)

  21. Good luck with the contest!

I'm going to have to hunt for those shorts! Love them. I too am waiting for warmer weather here in nyc so I can finally shed some layers. :)

  22. Thanks for featuring a casual outfit! The shorts fit you nicely: a well-fitting pair of shorts is hard to find. If you're looking for more brands that carry well-fitting shorts, I'd recommend Vineyard Vines' size 0. I recently got lucky at the Vineyard Vines outlet near me, and I was delighted by how well their shorts fit!

  28. Simply gorgeous Jean! Great photos and fabulous model!
    btw, which Yves Saint Laurent
Arty Ovale Ring you ended keeping? Which color you prefer now, the turquoise or the coral? I'm not a fan of gold jewelry (mosthly wear silver/white gold jewerly) but I'm liking this ring a lot.

  29. Lovely, Lovely pictures, Jean! Bravo for the photographer. :) I like the UPS shorts on you, but I think this is one of the pieces that only you can pull off. Top is very sexy! LIKE A LOT!

  32. Those shorts look so well tailored and expensive! Can't believe they're from H&M. Wondering if they will pil though, because it kind of looks like the material that will (like ponte pants). Hardly ever see you dress this casually... you still look gorgeous!

hope you have a great weekend!

  33. wow, that is the perfect top for this slightly warm season, but truly, I don't like the shorts, as they need to be stylish, as the top. You are so beautiful, and this top is adding grace to your beauty. Love it

  34. Thank you dears for your kind comments! I didn't make it for the contest...oh well : )

@Liya It may have been me : ) You should say hello next time!

@R.L. I'll trade you anytime...you can have our winters full of Lady Day coats and our summers where it's so hot you can't breathe, lol!

@grace Haha yes yes, a rare vote of approval from him ; )

@AubreyOhDang! Ah, I know what you mean, but it doesn't bother me as much as it probably bothers you. Nick voted thumbs down on that flutter dress I wanted because he hated the gold-toned hardware and said it looked cheap. The belt on these shorts are better than that dress...it's actually a metal plate versus a gold-painted plastic clasp.

@Betty Lol! I say get them with the next sale. They'll probably go down to $15 or so by summertime, so it'll be a cheap thrill even if you don't wear them too much.

  35. @ShortBlonde Thanks for the rec'...I've seen them, very preppy.

@Claud Thanks Claud! I ended up returning the turquoise. I really liked both, but the coral is already big (I use tape on the inside) and the turquoise was even one size bigger, although both were a 5. A week after I returned it though, the price went up to $250 from $195!

@herwaisechoice Yikes, I hope not...I hate piling! All three of my other H&M trouser shorts have held up nicely, but only time will tell : )

  36. I was skeptical about the nautical shirt - nautical stripes always seemed a bit old-fashioned to me. Love the new twist by pairing it with the brown shorts and wedges!

I need to get some trouser shorts. They're so versatile and youthful, without showing too much leg. My local H&M doesn't have much interesting clothes in stock whenever I visit! Perhaps I go too late and all you lovely petites snatched them up! ;o hehe jk!

  37. The top looks really good on you. I'm returning my wedges for sure but am still undecided about the necklace. Had originally decided to return, but like always you make everything look good so now I'm re-thinking it again :)
