Return of the H&M Slim Knit Blazer!

Some of you may remember this little red knit jacket from H&M. That jacket turned out to be one of my best purchases last year and I wore it almost every weekend. Thanks to PetiteXXS and a few other lovely readers, I was immediately alerted about the return of the knit jacket.

Sorry for the awful photos ... there was just no lighting.
H&M knit blazer sz 2 (fits like 00P) - $34.95. Stock photo from H&M (right)

So this jacket is very similar at first glance, but H&M did make a few updates. Below is my red one from last season. As you can see, this season's is longer by about an inch, plus there are three buttons in the front instead of two. Also, there are two little pockets now which is very exciting. The material is still a poly/cotton blend, but it is thinner than the red.

This season's version comes in four colors: heather gray, heather navy (pictured above), beige-pink, and black. A lot of choices, but no bright colors, sadly. See gray & navy on PetiteXXS and beige-pink & navy on PetiteLG.
I highly recommend this jacket for tiny petites because it is so fitted and affordable. Not all stores have this though, so try calling ahead to place it on hold. I described it as a "sweatshirt-like blazer jacket" and gave them the first six numbers of the tag (040299) and the price. Thank you DoubleZero for sharing the tag!

While there I also tried on some new dresses. First up is a trench dress which I can see stylin' on a taller, leggier lady. The price was steep, but to H&M's credit it fit really nicely and I thought it was great quality (although you can see my bum lines in the back).
 H&M Tencel Trench Dress, sz 2 (fits like 00) - $49.95

Next I fell in love with a fluttery dress from their "sustainable materials" collection (I think). The material was chiffon-y and there was a ruffled neckline and a removable belt with clasp. There was only a size 4 left in the navy and gold:

H&M flutter dress w/ removable belt - sz 4 (fits like 0) $39.95

I thought I could make it work, but as soon as I tried on a 2 in the beige, I knew I needed a 2. The neckline on the 4 was too low and the torso wasn't as fitted. I took down the tag info so I can call back for a navy & gold in size 2. Price is again a steeper $39.95 but this is one of those dresses that would be perfect for brunch, a dinner date, or even Spring/Summer work attire if styled properly.

Aside from the navy blazer, I picked up these $34.95 taupe faux-suede shoes in sz 5. H&M shoe quality is not good by any means, but I love my wedge booties from them and you pretty much pay for what you get - fun, fleeting styles that last a season or two for a decent price.
I'm thinking about exchanging these for a bright coral color in the same style:
PS - I mentioned a blog sale tomorrow but sadly there is no way I'll be finished by then. I've been photographing, washing, and listing so much stuff! Also tomorrow is Chinese new year so I hope to be getting some good grub instead of packing clothes. So the blog sale has been postponed until next week. For those who celebrate CNY - have a wonderful new year with your friends & family!

  1. omg I was just about to go to bed when your new post popped up on my blog reader. I'm so glad that I saw your post because have wanted that jacket for so long! I tried it on once in the fall and was pleasantly surprised of how well the jacket fit, but I didn't get it that day and I never found a size 2 again! I'm definitely going to call around tomorrow to try to find one, fingers crossed that the Toronto stores got them as well. Thanks for posting this!

  2. @My money, my life Yes the Toronto stores got them as well! I had a kind reader email me a few days ago to let me know she saw them there. Be sure to mention there are 4 colors so it's easier for the sales associate to find : ) Good luck!

  5. Jean OMG you look fantastic in all the dresses! I went to H&M today and left with just a floral hair clip and a pearl bracelet. I should have looked harder! I want the DRESSES you're wearing sooo pretty! :)

  6. Jean, you look fantastic in those dresses (I think I'm going to have to go back and get those shoes - they're super cute!). Like others, I'm curious if they're comortable?

I was just at H&M earlier this week and I didn't find anything - but you are inspiring me to go back this weekend :)

  8. Happy Chinese New Year Jean! :) I need to go look for that jacket now. BTW, I purchased the same black BR wool dress (that was way too big for you) as well but kept it because it fit me so well. I am 5'2 and I purchased a XSP.

  10. Jean, I wrote on PLG's page: how do you take care of this sweatshirt material w/o it fading?

b/c I notice H&M has a lot of this material lately. I bought a blue blazer in this sweatshirt mat'l w/suedette elbow patch @H&M, but had to return b/c I was afraid after a few washes, it was just going to fade like my old sweatpants. by the look of your red jacket, it doesn't look like any fading took effect.

    Please educate me!

    btw, Happy ***Lunar*** New Year!

  11. I love the blazer and the 2nd dress. I really wish they would open an H&M store in Hawaii.

  13. Nice finds! I've been in H&M about three times in the past week, haha. They have some really nice things for spring. I like that blazer a lot, and based on PetiteXXS and PetiteLG's fitting room pics, it looks like it should fit you really well. (If any UK petites are wondering, I've seen it in my local store too, in all colours.)

    Happy Chinese New Year!

  14. Happy New Year! I love the trench dress and the ruffle dress. I went into H&M the other day *very* quickly (I was on my way to a meeting but I had to stop, right?) and I saw some cute things, but I didn't have any time to really look. I'm tempted to go back even though I shouldn't be buying anything!

  15. Thanks for the reviews! I saw those shoes in coral the other day and thought they were so cute and perfect for the upcoming (hopefully) spring weather! Happy Chinese New Year :)

  16. I am boycotting this blog...I want everything you tried on. Yikes, that trench dress is a dream. Stop making everything you try on look so darn good (haha I kid I kid, I really appreciate this info because I never know what I need until you blog it).

    p.s. happy lunar new year!

  17. p.s. sorry about the double comment but did you ever get tag information for the trench dress? Thanks!

  18. Happy New Year to you Jean!

Wow, those dresses look amazing on you! The price is rather steep and is sure to be more expensive for me :( But I think I might want to search out that flutter dress - especially when I read that ruffle removable!

  19. jean you make everything look nice. i saw that trench dress and was like eehh...haha but you manage to look good in it. i like that ruffle dress a lot. i'm gonna look for it!!

  20. i need that jacket! the ruffle dress is awesome, too.

  21. I love your red jacket from last year! I've been seeing this on a lot of petites lately and now really want one. I kind of wish there was a bright color though because all of my winter clothes are dark.
I love the ruffly dress on you, too bad it doesn't fit. I also really like those sandals, especially in the coral. I would say to keep the neutral ones if you need something that goes with everything and to get the bright ones if you want something fun to wear for a season. I have a pair of red ballet flats from there that I bought for really cheap and they're perfect to add a pop of color to a neutral look.

  22. The knit jacket is so tempting. Heck, anything machine washable is tempting! I do love all the array of colors it comes in. Will have to keep my eyes out for this.

The practical side of me would stick with the taupe booties because it goes with more outfits. But my eyes are always drawn to the fun, bright colors like coral. If you think you can pair the coral ones with enough outfits, then I say go for it and do an exchange :)

  23. I love the flutter dress in beige! It looks very classy and sultry. The shoes are also lovely. I've been looking for nude/taupe bandage shoes for a while. How does the size 5 fit? I know your feet are a little bigger than mine so I'm curious. Do you know of any other similar styles?

  24. I'm so glad you did this review!...totally in love with that trench dress and if it's such a good quality the price isn't bad at all (compared to the price for Ann Taylor's trench dress for sure). The blue flutter dress looks beautiful on your skin tone and the shoes are a great "trend" to play with as well. I had forgot all about that red jacket from last year, but as soon as I saw the pic I remembered the post - totally fabulous!

  25. Which H&M did you go to? I was on at the Newbury location, over the weekend but did not see that sleeveless trench.

  26. Happy Chinese New Year!! Wow, it's rare for me to love every single item in a fitting room review, but you have definitely accomplished it here! I LOVE the jacket and the flutter dress the best - I may have to make my own version of the flutter dress :)

  27. happy chinese new year, Jean!! i really love that beige dress on you and the ruffles at the top are perfect! and i think i would go for the coral heels instead of the beige ones just cause i think colorful shoes are the best way to dress up an outfit!

can't wait for the blog sale. :)

  28. I support the coral shoes! :)

Good luck on finding the navy dress in a size 2! I love the look of it!

    Happy Chinese new year! :)

  30. I really wish the jacket came in more colors too. I got the grey one but am now having second thoughts. I also really like the fluttery dress, and I want those taupe shoes! They look like they would work really well as a nude sandal for some extra leg-lengthening effect! The coral ones would be really fun and great for spring if you already have something similar in a neutral color.

  31. @April Oh I didn't even look at accessories. April you would also look darling in the navy ruffled dress...i hope you can find it and try it on!

@grace Hi Grace! The shoes are comfortable to me because they have a lower wedge-like heel, and are made of a soft material, however I think I'm returning these because my feet aren't wide enough to fill them out. There is also a little too much extra space around my ankles where the ankle strap is. You should try them on the next time you go and let me know what you think.

@Toi et Moi Oo, which wool dress? The Maria one with lace or the wrap? I hope you find the jackets!

@AubreyOhDang! I RARELY do machine laundry (only for tees, socks, undies, jeans, etc) so I usually get things dry cleaned. The jacket said machine wash or dry clean so I figured why not. I'm scared to machine wash anything with "structure." I've only cleaned it once though from last season, but I understand most ppl would not want to dry clean a cheap little jacket. It's $5 where I go for blazers.

@Frankincensy LOL I did too! It's gonna be a third visit anyways to return the shoes.

@Ping Haha I think you can either love or hate the trench dress. My bf was like ..aak it looks like a burberry trench but the sleeves fell off!

@fashionforteens @Cee You ladies are right...if I were keeping a pair I should go for the coral! There really is nothing more fun than a bright little shoe for Spring or Summer. Red ballet flats sound so chic!

    ReplyDelete
  32. @Heather Hi Heather! If your feet are smaller than mine then I don't recommend these...unless you have wide feet and/or thicker ankles. The 5 fits my foot lengthwise but I don't really fill it out, and there is too much room around my ankles where the ankle strap is. For $35 these are going back.

@Callandra You're right Callandra - I'm always thinking $50 is awful for H&M, but compared to a place like Ann Taylor that's about 60% or more cheaper for what would be the same item, made of possibly worse quality, with a much bigger fit.

@I am Khatu H&M Downtown crossing .. much bigger!

@SewPetiteGal I would LOVE to see that! I have no doubt you can make it expertly.

@kileen You always have fun or super high shoes...I'm not keeping the shoe at all after tying it on, but I'll definitely seek color the next time I'm shoe shopping : )

@PetiteXXS Sigh I know! Why no bright colors? I think you should keep the gray though (or get Navy) because it's so hard for someone your size to find an inexpensive, fitted blazer of decent quality.

  33. I love the coral sandals!

Before you put the lovely floral skirt in high heat, watch out for discoloration. It might shrink your skirt but it can also take away the bright color.

  34. I love the blazer, but we don't have a H&M store in Houston! :(

  35. Everything is really nice, I love the navy dress on you the most. It's been awhile since I've visited H&M, I really want to check out their new sustainables collection.

  36. Hi Jean! I went to H&M this weekend and saw that the 5th Avenue store carries the navy dress in size 2 so call NYC if you can't find it local or let me know if you'd like me to pick it up.

The blazer is also available in sizes 2 and 4 in all colors still for anyone who's looking. Fits super tight but each blazer fits slightly differently so try them on. The Lanvin for H&M line is still available here as well in many sizes...for 50% off!

  37. I posted this originally in the wrong thread :

For those who live in San Jose (south bay) in CA - I saw alot of the jackets in the H&M at the Great Mall in Milpitas this afternoon (Fri). Colors - pink, grey, dark blue and black. They are tucked into the right hand corner as you come in the store. I picked up a black and dark blue!
