Petite Fashion Challenge # 2: Wear it now, wear it later

Petite Fashion Challenge #2, hosted by Kelly of AlterationsNeeded (my fave!):

"The challenge: Pick at least one item in your closet (not jeans, that's too easy!), and create two outfits, one for spring/summer, and one for fall/winter."

I sifted through my closet, and quickly decided on an H&M peach tulip skirt. I splurged on it ($40) in the Spring and never wore it again. It's slightly too short/whimsical for a business environment, and too dressy for my weekend lounging.

I took the easy way out and winter-ized this skirt with some black tights, while leaving the rest of the outfit (ruffled top, long cardigan) to mirror how I wore it in the Spring.

Outfit for Fall/Winter:
Skirt: H&M "Trend" sz 4, Blouse: Target sz jrs XS, Cardigan: LOFT sz XXSP (buy here)

Outfit for Spring/Summer:
Skirt: H&M sz 4, Blouse: Topshop sz 0P, Cardigan: Martin & Osa sz XS
Wow, makeup and hair looks a little better this time around too. I almost look cross-eyed in the Spring photo; probably not used to being in photographs yet. I would've liked to add some dimension to the Fall/Winter ensemble with a print top, but in the interest of time just threw on hasty black.
In winter I tend to "recycle" all my skirts by wearing them over opaque tights. No need to shave, yay. I think that black tights worn with black pumps has a similar elongating effect as bare legs with nude pumps. Black tights also make shorter skirts more work-appropriate because no real "leg" is being revealed. What do you guys think?

Henrietta Pertuz Petites Fall 2010 - Drew Silk Blouse

Some of you may remember Henrietta Pertuz Petites from this post and this post. The NYC-based petite fashion designer is out with her Fall/Winter collection with extended sizes (00P to 14P in certain items). Starting at $195+, her items are truly "investment" pieces, boasting classic silhouettes and luxurious imported fabrics.

I was thrilled to receive the Drew blouse for review:
Silk Blouse: Henrietta Pertuz "Drew" in 0P (buy here)
Jeans: Gap legging jeans in kids sz 12
Booties: Calvin Klein "Hadrian" sz 6

Yay or Nay: LOFT Scuba Seamed Pants

Now it's LOFT's turn to have the 40% off 3 or more full priced items sale. Here is a quick post because I know some of you have been wondering about these scuba cropped pants. When I first tried them on I didn't love the thicker material on a fitted pant, and felt "fat" in them. After I looked at these photos however...they actually look streamlined and not chunky as I had feared. I'm thinking I like them! What do you guys think? Your opinions would be appreciated.
Top: H&M sz 2
Pants: LOFT Scuba Seamed Pants sz 00P (buy em here)
Shoes: Ann Taylor perfect pump (buy em here for over 50% off using tips from my previous post)

American Eagle Jeggings Review in sz 00

I purchased these AE jeggings a while back during a sale for $32, and was initially excited about how they fit and felt. After some thorough nitpicking, I decided to send them back and instead bought the Gap Legging Jeans in 00P, which I now love love love. Since these photos were already taken, I figured I'd share my thoughts anyways:
ae jeggings
Jeans: American Eagle jeggings in "Dark Indigo" sz 00
Jacket: Lucca Couture sz XS
Heels: Marc Fisher, thrifted

UPDATED: Ann Taylor Stackable Coupon & Shoe Sale

* Psst - the Rock & Republic blushes that I've fallen in love with via Jen are on Ideeli today from $18-$24. I picked up "Seduce" and a backup of my favorite color, Tease (mauve-y, cooler pink) which I wear almost every day. Click here if you need an invite.

Hi lovely readers - I apologize for the lack of reviews and posts of value lately. I've been traveling for work and haven't had a chance to photograph through my stack of packages at home.

Here is another quickie because a reader (thanks Lucy!) alerted me that Ann Taylor's current shoe sale is potentially stackable with coupons. Of course I couldn't pass up the chance to get another pair of beloved perfect pumps at over 50% off:

The deal: This weekend, get $50 off and free shipping (no minimum) on any full-price shoe purchase

Stackable coupon: EBATES20 gives you 20% off any reg-price purchase of $150 or more. To meet this minimum I ordered 5 and 5.5 to try on for size. My coworker said their oxford pump looks fab in person. *UPDATE: "108026956" gives you an extra 30% off these shoes with no minimum needed. Worked for me - thank you so much aquav87!

Cash back: 3% back if you shop AT via ebates

The last time I posted a stackable coupon, it stopped working after one day...probably when LOFT noticed the glitch and removed it! So get your shop on if you were eying any of the AT pumps : )

To keep or not to keep: H&M Lace Draped Dress

I found a dress at H&M last week that I'm excited to share with you guys (I even have an extra one up for grabs). I would love your opinions on whether or not it's a keeper for the price of $59.95. Sometimes I am deluded into thinking something looks and fits fabulously, but then you guys help me see the light (ie. gap ankle pants, gahh).

This dress is from H&M "Trend." Trend is their more expensive line, distinguishable by more fashion-forward styles and noticeably better workmanship. I adore their styles, but unfortunately, from my experience their trendy stuff is usually cut for taller women (long hemlines, super structured shoulders, over-sized, flowy styles). But this dress - not really trendy, plus I thought it fit great:

Dress: H&M Trend sz 2 (fits like sz 00 and also comes in black)
Cardigan: Martin & Osa XS (can't wait for my long LOFT cardi's)
Sandals: Mossimo Palani sz 5.5 - love! Buy em HERE
Brooch/pendant: Vintage "Peri" Cameo pin from eBay

Dav Heeled Rainboots on Sale ($14.70 - $28.50)

Just a quickie post because I noticed Dav rainboots were on clearance on Hautelook. Whenever readers email me about rainboots for petites, I recommend Dav because they come in a mid-calf length, plus they have a heel! I bought the solid black pair in the shorter length after doing lots of research (unfortunately not included in the sale). The stubby heel takes a little getting used to, but now I always reach for these over my Burberry flat ones.
The Hautelook prices are actually really good (I paid $50 for my short ones at DSW, for reference) and shipping is $7.95. I own sz 34-35 and it fits just like a US 6. Click here if you need an invite (commissioned if you make a purchase).

Petite Friendly Blazers: Theory Gabe and Sparkle and Fade

Meet Gabe, my new blazer plucked from the clearance rack at Boomies. I wasn't sure about him at first, but the real bf Nick encouraged me to take him home.

Leggings: H&M sz 2
Blazer: Theory Gabe sz 00 (sleeves folded in)
Wedges: Tory Burch Sophia sz 5.5

Gabe is Theory's most classic blazer - they offer it season after season in their popular "tailor" fabric, in black and at least two other colors. Bloomies online has both the Gabe blazer and Max C. pants in sz 00, as well as the matching Betty sheath dress which is on my work wishlist.

LOFT Stackable Sales & Coupons

*Coupon no longer works!!*

LOFT is having $20 off select pants right now, plus the long cardigan I tried on a while back is at a special $25 price (50% off!). It's still available in size XXS petite in all colors.

These sales alone were not good enough for me to jump on the shopping bandwagon...but then I discovered on a whim that 25EBATES could be stacked on for an extra 25% off...score!

My top picks are the above two items modeled previously in this fitting-room review. I ended up not opting for the lean trouser, instead got the Petite Scuba Seamed Pant (online exclusive) that I've been eying for a while along with the long cardigan in 4 colors! Oh, and ebates gives you an extra 3% back. Happy shopping : )

ASOS Petites Review: Bow Combo Dress

The UK retailer ASOS has been (and still is!) offering free shipping to US customers, so I finally got curious and ordered this bow combo dress. Since I've heard inconsistent info about their sizing, I ordered both a petite 4 (says US 0 on the tag) and a petite 6 (says US 2).
Here is the UK Petite 4:
Dress: ASOS " "bow dress UK sz Petite 4 (buy it here)
Shoes: Aldo

The material was very stretchy so I got it on just fine (pull-over style, no zipper), but it was noticeably tight on me. I am not sure where one can wear this dress...for me it is too hooch for the workplace, yet not hooch enough for going out. Next up, the size 6...

Finally: 40% off Ann Taylor and Free Ship over $150

Ann Taylor sent a coupon a while back that I've been waiting ever so patiently to use:
ANNSTYLE gives you 25% off 2 full price items or 40% off 3 or more full price items, from today - Sep. 21
I had everything sitting in my cart last night but there was no free ship! Apparently it came back on around midnight after I was snoozin' but my twitter friends were quick to notify me : ) To my dismay my sz 5 perfect walrus pumps were gone from the cart in the morning. This is what I ended up ordering:

- Oyster Sateen Twist Neck Shirt in smokey mauve sz 00P (thanks, Claud for pointing this out!)
- Charmeuse ruffle top in leopard sz 00P (loved the solid ones on PetiteXXS)
- Tropical wool gray skirt sz 00P (love my pewter colored one - it never wrinkles)

My only qualm is that the sateen/charmeuse tops are all polyester. I saw that for just a little more $ you could get something that was mostly silk (like this animal print top) but in the end the design of the above two won out. All for $264 $158 so not too bad. Plus I went through ebates to get 3% cash back. Happy shopping!

Urban Outfitters Peplum Jacket Overload

I'm late to the party...the Kimchi Blue peplum jacket party, that is. You guys must be so sick of seeing this jacket on every petite blogger, but here is my un-enthusiastic contribution:
Jacket: Kimchi Blue Peplum Jacket in "Ivory" sz XS
Pants: Ann Taylor Twill Capris in "Cliffside" sz 00P

Let's play a game...can you identify your favorite petite bloggers? Who wore it best? Not me, thats fo' sure.

Fall Shoe Order from the Targ

Some say that ankle booties are not for the workplace, but I find that plain black ones look sufficiently professional (especially when worn over black tights). With Target's sale this week, I ordered 2 pairs to try on plus some mary-janes that are a re-run from last Fall (see my post from November 2009):

1. Merona Musetta Ruffled Bootie, $20 (faux-suede) comes in 3 colors, sz 5.5
2.  Merona Reta T-Strap Pumps, $26.40 (real suede) comes in 4 colors. My size sold out in these last year, so I'm ordering early this time around.
3. Mossimo Karensa Shoe Bootie, $24 (real suede) sz 5.5

Online-only deals:
- take 20% off any clothing or shoe purchase over $75, no code needed (ends Saturday)
- take $5 off your order of $50 or more and free ship (click here for the coupon)
- 3% cashback via ebates

Petite Lookbook: Little Red Jacket

For those of you who have an H&M nearby, I can't recommend this sweatshirt-peacoat enough. It's affordable, well-constructed, warm, and runs small...what more can I ask for? It also comes in three colors, so if tomato red isn't for you, try hunting down one in black, or my favorite - heather gray.

Jacket: H&M sz 2, fits like 00P
Jeans: H&M kids "super sqin" sz 11/12
Ankle booties: Target Mossimo sz 5.5 (were just $7!)

Vibrant Summer Outfit

Here is an ensemble I put together for Khatu's Vibrant Summer Contest. At the time of the contest I had hardly any vibrant pieces in my wardrobe (not anymore...acquired quite a few in the past 2 weeks!). This linen dress was rescued from the blog sale pile.
Dress: Banana Republic 00P
Belt: H&M sz XS    Necklace: J.Crew
Pumps: thrifted - Marc Fisher sz 6

Here I am trying it on with a different set of accessories. Belt - F21, necklace - thrifted. I have come to love poking around thrift stores for vintage jewelry. This heavy gold-toned necklace was just $4.99 and I almost paid many times that for a similar version at Ann Taylor or BR. I came home and washed it thoroughly w/ rubbing alcohol : )
Wearing: $1 ELF falsies from this post and Revlon Matte lipstick in pink pout. Kind of a milky pink...a bit drying.
I hope everyone had or is having a wonderful weekend. Any great Labor day weekend purchases? Please share : )

AE Jeans - 20% off, BOGO, plus free ship AND returns

For those who have been on a denim search, here is a good deal for the weekend. I've never tried AE denim but they have over 7 cuts to choose from (jegging, flare, boot, straight, artist, boyfriend, and skinny) so there could be something for everyone . Here are the deals:

- 20% off your entire purchase and free ship with 57345217 (no minimum, includes sales and BOGO)
- Buy one get one 50% off denim
- Free return shipping label for their jeggings (highly reviewed by customers)
- Some jeans are already on sale, but they still qualify for BOGO and 20% off
- 3% cashback at ebates
Some picks:
1. AE Jegging in dark indigo ($31.60 after discounts) and midnight indigo wash ($11.98 after BOGO and discounts). Size 00 regular available (no 00 short, but I like my skinny denim and leggings to have some scrunch at the bottom). Don't be scared of jeggings ladies...just make sure they are more denim than leggings. Leggings with denim "print" are a huge don't in my opinion, but super stretchy and fitted denim is a do. I'm curious to see which bucket these fall under.

Free return ship on these, so I figured no harm in trying 'em out! I ordered both of the above washes.

2. AE Skinny Jeans in 00 Short or Regular. I like super dark indigo and deep dark indigo (only $9.98 after BOGO and discounts). In case you can't tell, I love skinny bottoms. Perfect to wear under blazers, chunkier sweaters, and coats for Fall. Petite Little Girl is modeling a pair here in 0 Short.

3. And just for fun, AE Classic Blazer in XXS, $40 after discounts.
Reviews say that this runs small and that the shoulders are narrow. I can see this navy blazer with the sleeves scrunched up paired over skinny or boyfriend fit jeans.

Review: Fall LOFT New Arrivals

LOFT is having 40% extra off sale items again with code LABORDAY40. This ruffle jacket is left in many sizes in both colors for $42 down from $98. See it here on me and here on Callandra.
Fall is my favorite season to dress for...I couldn't resist popping in a LOFT to try on their textured jackets. That store has definitely moved up my list as of late...even though a lot of their stuff does not fit me perfectly, I love being able to go into a store and scoop up armfuls of XXSP and 00P items to try on.

1. Novelty Tweed Jacket with Chains sz Petite XXS

This jacket looked cute online, but in-person my fears were confirmed. This reminded me of White House Black Market jackets...just too much going on: tons of texture, ribbed scrunchy bottom, visible chiffon trim, chains, dangly things, large flap pockets...maybe if 2 or 3 of the above were nixed then this would work. The fit was also boxy...figures, since this is offered in letter sizing versus numerical.

Verdict: Pass, but very cute concept.
