Petite Lookbook: Ponte Gets Punky

I bought these ponte motocross pants a week back and was on the fence about them. I liked the edgy zipper details and comfy ponte material, however the 00P waist/hips were loose and caused dreaded cameltoe (just like on the model...how did an editor approve that pic?).
I took a risk and threw these into the washer then dried on high heat. Voila! The entire pant shrunk down half a size and the waist gap almost went away.

Jacket: H&M peacoat sz 2
Faux-fur collar: H&M   Booties: Calvin Klein "Hadrian" sz 6
Ponte Pants: LOFT Motocross Pant in 00P - sold out in small sizes online, but check stores!

Oh man, how much do I adore this coat below from LOFT? It combines two things that I am obsessing over this season - olive and faux-fur. I saw this jacket online right after I wore the above outfit...even the bf did a double take. The faux-fur collar is detachable and hopefully it should stay put on the lapel, unlike my H&M one. If you've tried on this jacket, please share your thoughts!

Before the wash/shrink, the legs were tight but the waist was loose and had to be hoisted up w/ a belt:

After the wash, the pants measure: 13" across the waist, 16" across the hips, and 24" inseam.

Likes: I love the ponte material, which feels like thicker leggings except with the details of pants. These have a zip fly and tab waist, as well as 2 faux-back pockets. The total length is a smidge long on me with booties, so the 00P should accommodate someone with legs up to an inch or two longer.

Dislike: The overall proportion of fit on these pants are not perfect. Ponte pants need to be tight at the waist/hips/crotch or else it can be very unflattering. Someone who fits these perfectly at the waist may find the legs to be too tight. Although I shrunk these a little, they will probably stretch out again.

Last weekend, I ducked into an F21 and satiated my olive hunger with new tights and earrings. The earrings above broke my first wear but the bf kindly rubber cemented them back together. Despite that, I'm obsessed and want to wear them with everything...I love the vintage glam feel of the olive jewels against the bronze hardware (buy here for $4.80).

The olive tights (buy here for $3.50) are super cheap and come in thirteen colors! I would like to note that they have a little bit of sheen to them, and are not matte. Still, they will do and I'm also looking to pick up the charcoal and navy.

  1. You are brave for throwing it in the wash to shrink it! I would have been afraid it would stay the same and then wouldn't be able to return it - but it worked! I love the zipper detailing on those but my favorite part of your outfit is the fur collar. It looks beautiful on the bright jacket!

  2. You look beautiful! I don't think you need the LOFT jacket..what you're wearing looks exactly like it! I actually thought it was the same one before I continued reading. : )

  7. The red jacket looks so good in pics and the fur collar is such a great investment! Too bad I just can't find either in any of the H&Ms I've been to on my multiple visits :( Did you really score those pants for $10?? That's a pretty good deal! Some tights cost that much already.

  8. Wow! I love your style! The red looks amazing on you!

  9. Omg I LOVE the faux fur collar with your red jacket, you looks so classy and chic! I finally found the collar at the H&M here, it was the last one, so it was meant to be! I have yet to wear it in a post though, so hopefully soon! I love the way the collar looks on you though, esp when you wear it with the ends overlapped. That olive green jacket with the faux fur collar is gorgeous too and I can totally see you wearing it. GET IT! haha ;) Any way, sorry for being MIA with the comments but hope you've been well! I scrolled through your previous posts and saw that you bought this black lace blouse from H&M that I tried on but didn't buy, it looks lovely on you. I'm going to be MIA again because I'll be on vacation for the next 2 weeks without a reliable internet connection but I'll be back soon! xo

  10. I tried on the ponte pants in store and the fit was horrible on me. For 00P, they were too tight at the hips but there was a huge gap at the waist. I love do the material and think it's better than traditional leggings. I really like how your paired your red little jacket with those pants. The combination of red and black looks great on you.

  12. I think I tried on these pants too a while back and they look simply horrid on me...goes to show how important dressing for one's shape is because these look incredible on you! And great thinking (though risky) shrinking them in the wash...I am still trying to figure out how to do it properly.

That red jacket is such a great piece...I think I saw it in a mall in milford ct just last weekend in two colors. Should've gotten it but I don't wear jackets of this length very often. It looks terrific paired with the fur collar, even better than the LOFT one!

  13. So THAT'S what they call those pants.

Good. I have 2 pairs of ponte pants then, not skinny-WTF-are-these-pants-called pants.

I love that pop of orange on you. I'd look like a sad gorilla but you make me want to.

  14. Initially I thought these pants would be hard to style because of the zippers, but you pulled it off perfectly. For $10, I wouldn't mind washing and shrinking them after every wear lol. I'm also in love with your booties!

  15. Wow you can sure rock the skinny pants! And I do love all the details (zippers) - they look really sexy on you!!!

LOL - how kind of your man to rubber cement your jewelry together! :) Super sweet...I love a man with skills haha

  16. That's a great outfit on you - something I could never pull off! I'm liking Olive too but have yet to get anything. Those F21 earrings are great!

  19. I love the entire outfit!! The pants look great and the coat is really nice. I have a red coat too but it always gets so "linty." =(

  20. i do the same thing with my clothes; I throw it in the wash, cross my fingers, hope & pray for it to skrink. I may have said this before to you, or kelly or other petite bloggers, but i really hate the Loft's petite sizing. the cut is really boxy and it's still really big on me and I am almost positive I am not THAT small. With that said, I do love those pants, one can never have enough black pants.
btw, are you going to brave the crowd at H&M on Newburry for the launch of Lanvin?

  21. awww congrats IAMminky3! :) I know her!

p.s. I love the TB wedges! They're wedges right?

  22. Gorgeous! I love seeing your red jacket with the faux-fur! Hope your pants do not stretch out too much!

I should check out the new F21 in Vegas tomorrow if it is not too crazy busy! It is a big tourist weekend...now that I think about it...the malls are going to just get more and more crowded as Christmas nears. Eek!

  29. I _love_ those pants on you! (but I've said before Jean, I almost believe you're the kind of person who could wear a paper bag and still look good). I did a search to see if there was a LOFT that carried the pants near me, but nope, none at all. You look terrific in red. That Loft jacket is cute, but I wish it would come in different colors than just green.

  30. How adorable are you?! I found you vis Loft's facebook page. You make is work! LOVE the jacket!

  32. Thank you guys for all your sweet comments!
@grace Pfft that is way too nice of you Grace but it is far far from the truth! Btw I don't know how accurate their online search is. I guess it only searches the stores closest to you but then if you were willing to pay $7.50 to order it won't show any items outside of your zip code radius.

@April lol! ; ) I'll take cool...haven't been called that one before. Btw I love your new profile pic..you look darling in it.

@DSK Steph! Yes ma'am the sophie wedges I think they have it every season in new materials! Comfy but they stretch out a little

@I am Khatu Lol...let's see, thats the Tues I leave for T giving. You know what I think I will check it out as I work right around that area...does a line really form around H&M newbury for collaboration launches? I wouldnt think many ppl in Boston would care!

@FB @ FabulouslyBroke.com Lol! Your description works too ; ) I'm not exactly sure what ponte means...maybe just the thicker material. Ponte skirts unfortunately don't work as well and they carry a lot of em at Ann Taylor...shows every pantyline!

  33. @Elle and PetiteLittleGirl - Honestly when I first pulled them on it was cameltoe galore! Just like on the model...if the model doenst look good in them I can see how it can be easily unflattering on us regular peeps!

@The Little Dust Princess Thanks Jessy : D You're right def do NOT need the LOFT jacket as the more I look the H&M w/ collar is quite a good dupe.

@SewPetiteGal Thanks SPG! You know if this cost any more than $10 I'd also be afraid to shrink it...but I think $10 was my threshold for i dont care if it comes out horrid : )

@Ping Hahaha thanks Ping : ) I can totally see you rocking these pants except the waist gap would be quite big on you.

@milk tea polkadots and PetiteXXS - these were still like $50 something online but it was $14 something in-store plus 30% off! Usually there isn't such a big pricing discrepancy between in stores and online but I'm not complaining.

  34. i love your red jacket!!! i don't have anything like it. i also love the look of the pants on you, i really hope they don't stretch back out!!

  35. these are skin-tight on you but totally chic! such a good risk taken haha. you're definitely a trendsetter - look at loft following in your footsteps xD

i guess the cape and sweater weren't all that bad. they still felt weird to wear in person but are pretty awesome in photos

  36. Have you tried on the Loft jacket? I bought it yesterday and LOVE it. The fit, style, everything about it is just perfect.

  37. i LOVE the H&M jacket on you! would've never guessed it was H&M. i hope they still have it in stores. i tried on the Ann Taylor Loft jacket, i liked the fit but it looks better on the hanger than on me. maybe the green shade may work with fairer skin tones.
