Take Two: Sweet Velvet Petites Audrey Dress

I've been experiencing "LOFT fatigue" recently as PetiteXXS put it, but couldn't resist making a purchase this week. I never noticed this sculpted sheath dress online, but saw it on my coworker and it was simple yet adorable! They don't mention this online but the fabric is the comfy knit Scuba fabric. I have been swamped with work lately so I paid the $7.50 fee to locate & ship a 00P to my home. Cost was $45 including ship; style # 249106.

On to today's post...

Remember this little number on AlterationsNeeded? When Sweet Velvet Petites approached me about a review, I specifically asked to try on the Audrey Cocktail Dress. I recalled Kelly saying an XS fit her perfectly right off the rack! Being 5-10 lbs heavier than her, I was curious how it would fit on me and even contemplated sizing up.

Fit: The fit of an XS should be perfect for tiny petites. It was very snug on me at the torso and waist (it felt wonderful to try on a classy, adult piece of clothing that was too snug!). The length and proportions of the details were perfect. If I were to get this dress for work, I may size up to a S.

Quality: Kelly mentioned that the fabric was poly/rayon/spandex, which some people may not be satisfied with for a dress that is $119. Although I agree and would also like to see nicer material for that price, I have to say I was quite pleased with the feel of the fabric and the construction of the dress. The price is not bad for petites if no alterations are needed.

Material: 63% poly, 33% rayon, 4% spandex. Mesh is 90% nylon, 10% spandex. Dry Clean Only

Measurements: when lying flat, XS dress measures 14.5" across the underarms, 11.5" across the waist, 14.5" across the hips, 32.5" total length.

Overall I was really pleased with the fit and details of this dress designed just for petites. Be sure to check out Kelly's post as her photos show the details a little better. I thought the front design was a little space-shipy, but I can see some ladies loving the unique structured top over the navy mesh.

This dress is on loan for review purposes and will be returned. Sweet Velvet gifted me the Grace pencil skirt, so keep an eye out for that review!

  1. Isn't it nice to slip on a dress and have it fit? Or even be a little snug? Sweet Velvet really got the proportions of this dress right!

    Yay to petite designers! =D

  4. Oh Jean, thank you so much for mentioning the Loft dress. I didn't notice it either. Now that you mention it, I really like the simple look. I called my local Loft and had one on hold for me. I'll go pick it up tomorrow and see how it fits then.
The Sweet Velvet dress looks really nice on you. It fits almost too good to be true. I really like the front, but really not sure about the design of the back. Can't wait to see the pencil skirt review.

  5. Why did Loft charge you to locate the dress? I've never had to pay before to locate an item (but I have their credit card, so maybe that is why?) But anyway, the color of that dress is really unique. I also like the sheer part at the top. It looks like it fits you really well!

  6. Hey that looks great on you too! I forgot about the "space shipy" bust design - had to look back at Kelly's post. Looking forward to the skirt review.

  7. Isn't it an odd feeling to slip into clothes that fit tighter rather than looser? It's like one of those surreal experiences that I won't forget lol.

I really like the fit on you from all angles. I liked the space-ship front, but I'm iffy about the back. Too much mesh fabric I think.

  8. Glad you liked this dress. It is so pretty on you.

  9. lovely dress, it looks great on you :)

  10. Kelly - yes I was really pleased! However the skirt does run big in comparison, so it seems like all designers need to work on sizing consistency.

Leena & Tara - the fee is for shipping. It's always free to locate. It's free to ship to your home on regular priced purchases only with your Ann Taylor / LOFT card, unfortunately since this was on sale I had to pay for shipping. It's worth it though! The closest store that had it was about an hour away.

Vicky - nice!! You'll have to let me know how it fits since I won't get mine for a week! Oh how I wish it came in the gray. My coworker has the gray and I loved it. I wish they labeled it the "scuba" dress ... if I didn't feel it on her in person I would've had no idea it was the same material!

Petiteelegant, Angie, Girlie Blog and L4pinkpetal - thank you!!

Curls and Pearls - Kelly's pics are a lot better : ) My bf was "confused" by the frontal design but I'm sure some ppl really like it.

Cee - oh it's a wonderful feeling! Lol. There is a lot of mesh on the back, but I will say that the back looks better if you have hair that drapes down. I just scooped my hair aside to show how it is.

  11. The fit of the dress looks perfect on you! Can't tell that it's snug at all. I think it's a very interesting design but I'm a little on the fence about whether or not I like the mesh. I also passed over that LOFT dress, but you've intrigued me (despite the LOFT fatique :P). I have a feeling that it still might be big on me though... but will definitely look for it at my store when I go tomorrow.

  12. I love that dress on both of you! Isn't it nice to wear "grown-up" dresses? :p The back is beautiful.

Oh! I have not seen that LOFT dress. I am on the hunt for my striped cardigan in purple wine this weekend! I have been lusting for it. :) I cannot wait for mega sale, so I am willing to settle for the 30% plus 15% teacher discount. :)

  13. Looks great on you, I love the skirt with the coat perfect balance of color :)

  14. I tried that LOFT sheath in 00P, it was too loose! But maybe it fits you better than it does me.

As for the Sweet Velvet dress, it looks so amazing on you! And it's so nice to have something with the right proportions and fit. They did a great job with that dress! =)

  15. jean-- i just clicked on that loft dress, its really cute!!

this dress fit you really nice and i like that it's not too long. also hugs your petite curves nicely. there was something off about it when i first saw the dress and i couldn't quite put my finger on it and now that you've mentioned it, the dress does look a little space ship-y. lol

  16. I completely know what you mean about LOFT fatigue. I think my first 6 years out of college I wore nothing but LOFT because it was adult clothing that actually fit, and yes I am totally burned out on LOFT now! But they do have some really cute stuff...

On to the dress- that color looks really lovely on you!

  17. I think the dress look better on you than the model! I can't wait to see you review on the skirt! Will you be reviewing their outerwear once it's up?

  18. I would have passed on that LOFT dress as well but scuba material...I might have to reconsider.

The Sweet Velvet dress doesn't look too snug on you at all, I do think it's a little too bold to get a lot of wear though but I am intrigued by the skirt. I have been looking for sophisticated work skirts that won't require alterations so I'll be waiting in eager anticipation for your review.

  19. By the way, that Loft dress is gorgeous! I wish I had somewhere to go with that dress!

  20. I love how the dress is two-toned with different materials. It's so sophisticated and classy! I noticed that it really elongates your torso and legs!!

  21. This dress is AMAZING on you. The fit, the colour, everything! I esp love the little sculpted details of the front neckline and the back v-neck with the contrasting mesh? colour. Simply stunning.

The tan leather jacket is from H&M! The label is "L.O.G.G" = Label of Graded Goods by H&M, so something new I guess? Hope you can find it where you are and try it on, the fit is amazing, esp for petite sizes. The sides and arms fit so well, as does the bodice. And the colour is even better in person, as is the buttery soft leather!

Good to know that you've gotten a lot of use out of the polka dot blouse. I agree, it was pricey for what it is, but I can see myself wearing it a lot and getting my money's worth, so that's how I justified the purchase haha.

  22. Pretty! I love how it nips in and accentuates what a teeny lil waist you have!

  23. That dress looks amazing on you. Have you thought of writing down the measuremements or outlining it so you can remember the proportions next time you need to get something tailored (or if you ever go to Asia and have time to get something stitched for you)?

  24. I don't know how your coworker got the grey color. Must be from online. I checked two stores and they didn't even receive the grey. I will let you know how it fits/looks on me. I am not certain about the black, because the front details might be hard to see in that color. Oh, I also have a $5 off your next purchase H&M coupon that I won't use and it expires Oct27, so if you are able to use it, I can drop it in the mail for you. Let me know.

  25. That dress looks amazing on you and the fit is absolutely perfect! I love the space-shipy design on the front and the back closure too. Such a classy and elegant dress!

I'm gonna have to go hunting for that LOFT dress this weekend too. So many good deals at LOFT right now!!

  26. You're such a classy little lady! I can't wait for your future future posts when we're like 5-10 years older and you're blogging about Chanel tweed jackets :) <3

  27. I was surprised when I received the LOFT dress and it felt just like the LOFT scuba blazer (that I also just recently received). It seems to be a very popular fabric since they are both nearly sold out.

The dress is so classic! I like how you paired it with the cream blazer, totally appropriate for an elegant day out. I like the modern edge of the dress but not liking the price on it...

  28. The fit of this dress looks amazing on you. Look like it has been tailor according to your body measures :) I have to say that I'm not sure if I like the space-shipy design on front though. I guess I'm too conservative. Love how it look pair with the BR swing jacket.

  35. Oooh, that dress looks like a perfect fit! I was thinking that the dress looked slightly futuristic when I first saw it on Kelly, but the fit is so good that it's really starting to grow on me. I can't wait to see the sculpted sheath dress from the Loft and the pencil skirt you got from Sweet velvet!
