Yay or Nay: LOFT Scuba Seamed Pants

Now it's LOFT's turn to have the 40% off 3 or more full priced items sale. Here is a quick post because I know some of you have been wondering about these scuba cropped pants. When I first tried them on I didn't love the thicker material on a fitted pant, and felt "fat" in them. After I looked at these photos however...they actually look streamlined and not chunky as I had feared. I'm thinking I like them! What do you guys think? Your opinions would be appreciated.

 MEASUREMENTS:
Inseam: 25.5"
Waist: 13.25" across
Hips: 16.25" across
MATERIAL:
46% polyester, 45% rayon, 6% cotton, 3% spandex. "Dry Clean"

These definitely fit smaller in the waist/hips than any other LOFT 00P pants I have tried on previously. I don't think any alterations are needed on me, however if you are smaller than these may be a little big. I paid $45, so approximately the same price as they are now with the 40% off. Sophia also ordered these, so keep an eye out for her review.

I ordered 4 of these long cardigans in XXS Petite and am keeping at least 3 (black, dark gray, and olive green). They are lightweight, slim-fitting, and look great over pants, skirts, and dresses alike. If you haven't gotten any yet, I highly recommend them!

PS - the Scuba Trouser pants which I reviewed in a previous post are starting to pop up on fellow petite blogs. Strange that they don't look as flattering as I had initially thought in the fitting room. Check em out on Hanna and Vicky (let me know if I missed anyone).

  1. Aww, I really like the pants on you! They look comfortable as well ^^

  2. The pants look great on you. Keep!
I also ordered two long cardigans from Loft when they had the wonderful sale. I'm keeping them both. I hope they stand the washes though. Some of my Loft cardigans from last year were pilling big time after several washes.

  3. I love the vertical seam...really helps to elongate your legs. The final picture is such a polished look! Definitely a keeper! :)

  4. I say yay. They look like they fit well (which is my problem when I buy pants.. the butt is always too big on me) and they look great

  5. i love the color of the pants and they look like the fit in every way. they do not make you look "fat"! hahah i don't think that is ever possible jean!

the only thing that bothers me is the length...i think they would look better if they are 2" longer. i love pants to cover the heels more to give the illusion of longer legs, but that's just me.

if you love it and see yourself wearing it, then i'd definitely keep it.

  6. I love the fit on you, in particular in the thighs and butt. But I agree with Ping that the are a little too long, in particular when seen from the back. I would suggest hemming them to a little above your ankles. Since these are slim fitting pants than become narrower toward the bottom, they will look more flattering when they hit you slightly above your ankles.

  7. I agree with Anon #1 above. The length is odd. On someone as petite as you (and me!) cropped pants become tricky because they end up looking like too short regular length pants. Hemming to above the ankle will make them look like true cropped pants.

  8. The pants look pretty good on you, but there's something about the bottom that I don't really like. Maybe it's the length or the size of the opening, it's a bit awkward. Still, it's a minimal thing to worry about and the rest of the pant looks amazing on you!

The long cardigan looks so slim and streamlined, I might have to get a few myself! =)

  9. Love scuba pants on you. And the top and cardigan compliments them so well. The last pic says all: beautiful.

btw, I just posted the lace dress from h&m at Alterions Needed Forum. Hoping to get advice at the last minute, to decide what to wear to tonight's party.

  10. IMO there's something off... either they're not fitted enough or they're too long or too short. Love your shirt, though.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I agree with Kay, there's something off about it but I can't put my finger on it. It makes you look petite (for lack of a better word hehe) and doesn't elongate your legs. Both tops look great on you though!

  12. I would like to see these pants on you with a medium heel shoe before I would give a yay/nay vote. Much like the skirt length (which you so nicely talked about in a previous post) I believe that the way pants fit depends a lot on the shoes you wear. I am willing to bet these pants would look even better with lower heels.

  13. I actually love the pant on you. The hem doesn't really bother me, because your bootie looks amazing in the pant. They aren't too tight or too loose.. and if this is for the office, it's perfect. :D I say keep.

    Happy Weekend Jean!

    xx Love & Aloha

  14. OMG! Those pants look really good on you! I think the heels are perfect for them too. I also like the color. It's pretty and it's soft, but not what my grandma would wear - hahahaha! Seriously, you look good in them.

Funny how you ordered many cardigans. I am the same way. If I find something I like a lot, I'd order the same thing in different colors. Hey! It's hard to find something that fits well!

  15. I love the seam, it makes these pants unique. You're so little! These pants are ~1-2 higher on me!

I don't mind the length on you. I think it emphasize your petiteness in a good way. For me personally, I don't try to elongate or look taller than my 5'1" self.

  16. Also, love how you and Hanna paired the grey with purple toned tops. Since these are my first grey pants, I will definitely use you guys as inspiration as I'm very bad at styling and never know how to wear colors other than black!

  17. I think the fit is good but there is something that is keeping me from saying I love it. Maybe the length?

  18. Forgot this part - love the cardi and top on you!

  19. What the heck is up with Blogger nowadays? They haven't been publishing my scheduled posts and it keeps saying "service unavailable" when I tried to comment.
Anywhoo, the pants I say keep, keep, keep! The pants do hit at a shorter length than what most trousers would hit. They also hit at a longer length than what most cropped pants would fit. I think it's a nice, the seams and smaller width at the bottom gives a very nice elegance look to it.
The scuba trousers hit me at a shorter length but I personally welcome the change of seeing the shorter length.
Plus, Mr. B made a good point that the LOFT scuba fabric has a fall/winter weight to them. They are going to keep me extra toasty in the fall!

  20. The pants look really comfy and I love the colour. The material seems nice, but I don't like the frontal view of the pants.

    ReplyDelete
  21. these look nice but i agree that they do look a bit chunky. however the colour and fit makes up for that. i like your cardigan too

    ReplyDelete
  22. the pants look alright, but i find the leg opening at the bottom strange and i am not a fan of the vertical seam. you always look good though!! --J/punksjunk/mjvp

  23. I say yay! :D They look really good on you!

  24. Keep. they look great on you

  25. I felt the material today and it sure does feel comfy! The only thing that bothers me is actually the seam down the front. The slim tapered style is more work appropriate, but the front seams make it look more casual/trendy... maybe they'll be better in black? If I had to wear pants for work, I'd probably keep, because I love clothes that are uber comfortable. But since there's a slight bit of butt creasing on you, I don't think they're going to work for me.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Oh it fits you so well, definitely a keeper. How about the quality? Vicky seems not so impressed about it. Looks great on your picutres though.

  27. I love these pants on you. I tried them on the other day at store and didn't like it. They weren't flattering on me. The length was a bit short too. The material does feel comfy. I'll say keep them because they fit you quite well. I love the whole outfit (with the matching cardigan). I think LOFT also has skirts in the same material but I am not positive

  28. Hi Jean! I made a petite blog and for my first blog, I hope you will come and help me decide if I should keep or return these pants I got!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I really like the pants!! =)

P.S. Will choose a winner soon. I'm super sorry for lagging -I've been extremely busy this month. My goal is to get it done by this week.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Jean - I agree with the posters who aren't digging the vertical seam or the length with the heels. I kept wanting to see you in flats or a low kitten heel for comparision purposes. I am also not loving the cool grey against your warm skin tone.

Otherwise the fit is excellent. Also, considering that the camera adds 10 pounds, and you don't look chunky in the pic, I bet you don't look chunky in real life either!

I think you can (and have) done better with the pants (but I am in the minority, as usual)!
    Love the cardi!

    ReplyDelete
  31. You look great in these pants, but I think the fabric is a bit stiff and thick, which doesn't make them flow or drape well. They look like they encased your legs a bit. I like pants with a little movement as I walk, like a light-weight wool. But, if there is anyone who can pull these off, it's you Jean!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I was unsure about these pants because of the seam down the front and plus they are a lot tighter on the model. I've never been a fan of tight pants with seams... But I think they look really good on you because they are loose enough to still be pants but fitted enough to still look chic.

And I love the length on you. Any shorter would be awkward and any longer would require a hem job I think. And now that I think about it, the seams do help to elongate the legs. I say YAY on the loft pants!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hmmm...the length kind of throws me off a bit - I think they should either be longer or shorter! The fit is great for you though, especially the side view!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I think pants with vertical seams on either the front or back are generally problematic for most people. If the pants are slightly too wide, the seam will look awkward because it kind of sticks our from the pant making the thighs look bigger when seen from the sides. If the pants are tight, the seam will clinch to your legs and knees and this will look fine, but only if you have perfectly straight legs. If your legs are not perfectly straight, the vertical seam will no longer be vertical, but it will bend inward or outward, following the curve of your legs and hence exaggerate bow legs or knock knees. I have very light knock-knees (really, just a minor bend), but I look terrible in pants or denim with vertical seams and hence stay away from them. Hope this helps. Otherwise, I love your style and your blog, keep going, please!

  35. I just recently discovered your website through other blogs, and I have to tell you that I am already a big fan of your page! I'm a 24 year old student trying to get out of the teen phase with my ripped jeans and dyed hair (i'm asian), and your photos are a great inspiration and guide. I look forward to reading more!

  36. I totally agree with you, for some reason I was thinking they looked a lot more flattering in the dressing room pics....go figure. They do look good on you though, it just seems that there is a little extra material in the back end area. I tried on those pants too and was very impressed with the quality for sure..(not a friend to my curvy shape though ;)

  37. Ladies - thank you so much for sharing your opinions. I returned the pants. Many of you pointed out something iffy about the legnth, however that didn't bother me. I am used to wearing pants at that length (have a few Theory slim ankle pants that hit at that length) but the seam bothered me after some of you pointed it out. The material is super comfy but I still felt it was a little thick and cumbersome. Returned since I wasn't 100% convinced, but I still really like these pants!

Vicky - Good point, I think I'm going to handwash mine and definitely keep them out of the dryer. The arms are so tight that I can't wear them after any shrinkage!

Ping / Anonymous one and two - it's funny, some of you say they should be shorter, some say longer : ) I do agree though they would be more flattering in general as ankle pants if they were more fitted like on the model.

Alex - These didn't look too great with flats (just how the length hits the shoe) but I forgot to take a photo. I returned them since so much debate and doubt = I should probably not keep : )

Girle Blog - Lol, I am totally for ordering multiples as well but in the past the duplicates ended up in the blog sale. Funny you say that - I think grandmas would really like this material lol. Except it's dry clean only!

Sophia - I totally like how they fit on you much better, lengthwise. You are much slimmer than me though so it is loose around your waist and hips, but the length on your long legs makes them look like true crops.

Hanna - I am almost contemplating getting the trousers instead! Then there won't be a debate about whether to get them cropped or not. Mr. B is insightful lol. These definitely have a Fall weather weight to them.

Jessy & J/Punksjunk - something is off about the front, eh? I think it's the vertical seam being crooked whenever I move my leg and the leg opening can be more narrow. Hence, return.

PetiteXXS - I did thinkthey would look better in black. And good point, the seam makes them look more casual/trendy. I also agree they will be too big for you : )

    ReplyDelete
  38. Mix and Match - I'm unsure about how the quality holds up. I think Vicky was more unimpressed about the back fit, which looked really funky on her!

PetiteLittleGIrl - I think the scuba trouser pants definitely looks stranger on taller petites because of the shorter length. And they do have a matching skirt, plus a moto jacket (doesn't come in petites) that i really like!

Annapurna - I like the length but after reading all of your opinions the vertical seam is bugging me. I returned them because I want to "do better" in your words. The J.Crew minnies are out, though, sadly! I'll post them soon, but the length was very awkward on me in petites, and the waist was huge in regular : (

Pansy - funny point, never thought about that. I think that's what made them feel so odd and made me feel "chunky" lol. Thank you for your comment. It helped me seal the return decish.

R.L. I love how tight they are on the model, for casual wear purposes! Thank you for sharing your thoughts, but now I am bugged by the seam lol so I have returned.

Anonyous @ 2:21 You make some good points and I have bow legs so the seams will probably look all off when I'm walking around. Thanks for your comment and these have now gone back to the store : )

Anonymous @ 2:51 - welcome! DOn't you just love the online blogging community : ) So many shopping enablers. We are circa the same age and I'm still trying to put aside my teen fashion desires like yourself (blonde hair, bleached, destroyed denim lol).

Callandra - you're right, def some extra room for more junk in the trunk, which I really wish I could fill out. Le sigh. You probably tried on the trouser pants...I actually think these slimmer cropped ones would look nice on your curvier shape!

  39. they look good on you. it looks like it fits well.

  40. Late to the post, but I really like the silhouette on these pants. They are slimming, but not inappropriately tight and I love the grey! Like others though, my only qualm is that I don't think I like the idea of the front-side seams/pleats. I would've definitely returned them too. Now the quest to find similar fitting pant w/o those seams (which I'm sure you'll do in no time, haha).

    ReplyDelete
  41. Love them. The vertical seams add such modern touch to these pants. Something different to add to your wardrobe for casual wear. They are a keeper in my opinion :)

  43. I just found your blog and I love it! Your pictures are so pretty and you have great taste in clothes.

How do you get such a nice complexion? What makeup do you use to get the warm glow?

    Much appreciated!

  44. Mich - in due time, lol. You'll have to let me know if you find them before me : )

Lilac - welcome! Haha, that's so sweet of you...I don't see a warm glow, but if I had to guess I would say it's from my Bare Escentuals "warmth" bronzer. I buy it on eBay and it lasts for year(s) even though that's probably not sanitary. I brush it loosely onto my cheeks and the bridge of my nose : )
