Petite Lookbook: Little Lace Sundress

As temperatures start warming up, the little lace sundress (LLS) is the new LBD. After missing out on several versions by Ann Taylor, Zara, and F21, the lace stars finally aligned and I stumbled upon this at H&M:
Lace mini dress: H&M "Divided" sz 4
Wedge Sandals: I.N.C. sz 6 (similar here for just $23)
Bag: LV Speedy 25; Scarf: Gucci; Belt: F21

At just $34.99, I had no qualms shelling out for this dress. Ann Taylor's $200 version is nice, but I'd never forgive myself if, say, a dollop of sriracha or chocolate ice cream made it's way onto the white lace. More photos after the jump.


This dress is from H&M's junior department. I couldn't find a sz 2, but the fit of a sz 4 was just fine with a tiny bit of wiggle room. The length is really short (28" from shoulder to hem), so I can't imagine this dress on someone who is taller than me (and I am a mere 5 feet tall). The dress is fully lined, and has a gold-toned zipper going down the front which looks quite nice against the ivory lace. There are pleats all around creating a bubble skirt effect - which is the only part that I don't like.
The mustard Martin & Osa cardigan makes yet another appearance. This reminds me - I didn't post about my last M&O order. The XXS summer-weight cardigan I got turned out to be huge, several inches longer than this one. I machine washed/dried it against tag instructions, and it successfully shrunk to the same size as this one : )

What do you guys think about the lace dress trend? I haven't seen too many in outfit posts yet, but I know they are popular because the Ann Taylor and Forever21 versions went like hotcakes.

  3. I think I might have to find myself one of these too! Went to H&M and Forever 21 shopping spree this weekend (I love how it comes w/ less guilt) and will go back to look for one of these dresses!!

Anyway, I'm so glad you found such a cute white dress that finally fits. It looks great on you! I love how versatile these little white dresses are and your cardi is definitely working out to be a good complement to so many of your outfits. :)

  7. I love white dresses in general, and wouldn't mind picking up a white lace dress myself if I ever find one! I really like the belted look on this one. I'm surprised it's so short... it'd be almost indecent on anyone taller than our 5' height. I think the front is cut a tad too low for me though (I have a super bony chest and no cleavage to fill out scoop neck tops sadly).

  8. I tried on that dress at H&M! Sadly it didn't sit so well on my curves. It really is very short, but I loved how it had a kind of vintage style and yet a pretty fashion-forward front zip.

  11. I saw this dress when I was at H&M over the week but sadly, they didn't have my size. At $35 though, I'm not surprised. But I'm glad you were able to snag one because it looks absolutely amazing on you! I love the tan skinny belt and cognac sandals as accents, it really brings out the lace. I love that cardigan as well, esp in that mustard yellow colour, you'll def get a lot of wear out of it in the summer!

  15. T_T Infinite tears...don't have an H&M within 1000 miles of me I'm pretty certain! It looks hot on you! I love how you paired it with Gladiator sandles. Also, it's awesome how you have your own personal photographer!

    I have a little lace dress (strapless) by INC that I was lucky enough to snag last year. I'll see if I can make it work :D

    Seriously need to hire you as my fashion consultant LOL! You have great taste!

    BTW - funny thing is, I wish I had the shimmer palette more! I think I realized how much more I like shimmery colors vs. matte!

  22. I remember you mentioning how you missed out on the lace dress and pencil skirt at AT a while back. Looks like you found a worthy replacement! Very cute!

    FYI - I recently read on AT's Facebook page that the lace dress & skirt were so popular that they're going to re-stock them soon. If anyone is still interested, keep an eye on the AT site!

  23. I tried this dress on as well and it looks so much better on you! It was uncomfortably short on me and I'm only a little bit above 5'1", and the bubble skirt was laying really weirdly on me.

  24. I don't know why they made it so short...the larger sizes were just a few centimeter longer. Even on my short legs my bf thinks the dress is "scandalous."

    I agree that the bubble skirt is weird. I thought that was out several seasons ago... This dress would be perfect for me if it just had a simple bottom.

  29. I loved this dress when I saw it at H&M, but when I tried it on, it seemed too short on me, even though I'm petite too! (5'3"). It also made my butt look huge, because of the bubbly bottom. It looks good on you though!

  33. Oh please, you are not a grandma! Besides, wearing heels all the time isn't good any way so I try to make sure I balance between wearing flats and heels - I don't want scary spider veins! Oh dear, I hope you're not too traumatized; one of the best things about being petite is being able to wear as high of a heel as we want!

    Yeah, don't think I could attempt a duck confit salad haha so I'll resort to going to a restaurant to have it.

  34. I really love the white lace dress.. the tiny brown belt makes it more perfect!

    Hehehe, the black lace top that you asked is from ITC Mangga Dua, it's such a bargaining marketplace. Only 12 dollars I think. I think it is cheaper in China or Thailand. ;)
    Oh yes, I will become an auditor, already signed the contract with KPMG. *sigh. Yes, I think all of the auditor will have lots of overtime. :'(

  36. I have loved your fashion sense up to this point but this dress just doesn't do it for me. I think you look like you are trying to play dress up. The pleats, the bubble bottom, and the fact that it's about 3 inches shorter than it should be is just an odd combination. But if it works for you - c'est la vie!

  41. I recently purchased this dress in November 2010. The H&M in New York put it out as new in November. Do you think it could be worn December 5th to a brunch? Or is it not wintery? How can I winterize it ??

  42. Hi Tiffany! I saw it in stores too last month...they must've found a new shipment lol. I actually took the opportunity to re-buy it in a size 2.

    I definitely think it can be winterized. Do you have gray tights and gray heels/booties? Or olive tights, neutral shoes? Black tights/shoes could work but the contrast would be much more stark. I think a gray or olive would be much prettier. Check F21 for the $3.50 colored tights!
